Chapter 171: Chapter 171: A Narrow Path
It was precisely because the Sea God knew what kind of person Mephisto was that he found himself utterly astonished to learn that Han Yu was friends with him—possibly the most shocking revelation of the past thousand years.
The Sea God frowned, pondering for a moment before speaking:
"What is your relationship with Asgard? Whatever they've offered you, I can give you something better. Asgard has already fallen; Odin is now a powerless wreck. Why not join me? Once I conquer Asgard, you'll be handsomely rewarded. What do you say?"
He knew that anyone capable of safely retrieving Hela from Mephisto's grasp must possess extraordinary power. If it had been him, the Sea God doubted he could have managed it without paying a steep price.
Han Yu raised an eyebrow at this proposition. The idea of being recruited amused him. Tapping his fingernails impatiently, he replied, "Are you going to fight or not? If not, just come over here and die. I'm not in the mood for your nonsense."
The Sea God's expression darkened. Before him stood a mysterious man, close to Mephisto, whose abilities were unclear. Behind him was Hela, who looked ready to strike. He found himself caught in a difficult position.
Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a young girl standing beside Loki. From the moment she appeared, she'd been busy devouring a pile of unknown food, bite after bite, as if she were on a sightseeing trip rather than in a standoff.
"This girl might be the key! I'll take her hostage!"
A glint of malice flickered in the Sea God's eyes. Channeling his power into his legs, he launched himself forward at full speed, appearing next to Galacta in an instant. He wrapped an arm around her neck while pressing the trident's blade against her throat.
Everyone was stunned and immediately began to voice their disdain:
"The Sea God is such a shameless guy—taking a young girl hostage!"
"Yeah, and such a beautiful girl too. How could he stoop so low?"
"Typical invader behavior. This is exactly what you'd expect from someone like him!"
The Asgardians all spat in contempt while also feeling a deep sense of worry. However, Galacta's response left them utterly baffled.
She stuffed the remaining food in her hands straight into her mouth. Her small, cherry-like lips somehow managed to fit an absurd amount of food, making her cheeks puff out like a hamster's.
"Hmph! Scared now, aren't you? If you don't want anything to happen to her, back away a hundred meters. Otherwise, I'll kill her!"
The Sea God laughed triumphantly, expecting to see panic on Han Yu and Hela's faces. Instead, he was met with expressions of mild amusement. Even Loki sighed and shook his head.
Any tension Han Yu and Hela might have felt dissolved instantly.
"Young man, you've chosen the wrong path," Han Yu chuckled. What had initially promised to be a fierce battle turned out to be something entirely different. The Sea God had handed himself over to their strongest member on a silver platter. Han Yu had never encountered such a considerate villain before—one so eager to meet his end.
Even Hela couldn't suppress her laughter. Running her hands through her hair, she reverted it back to its normal state, signaling that she was exiting battle mode. Turning to Han Yu, she said, "Now that this situation is under control, I'll leave it to you two. I'm heading out to crush the rest of the intruders outside."
"Sure, go ahead," Han Yu replied with a nod.
"Hey! What do you mean by this? Don't you care about this girl's life? I'm serious—I'll really kill her!"
The reaction was completely unexpected. The Sea God shouted at them, pressing his trident against Galacta's neck to emphasize his point. Yet, to his shock, it felt as if he were pressing against a steel plate. The once-mighty trident in his hand now seemed as flimsy as paper, utterly incapable of piercing through.
Looking down, he saw Galacta blinking up at him innocently. Suddenly, she raised her small, delicate hands, grasping the sharp ends of the trident. With an effortless snap, she broke off the prongs as if they were biscuits, and without hesitation, tossed them into her mouth, crunching them audibly.
The Sea God stood frozen, dumbfounded. She… was eating his trident?
"Hey, stop!"
Before he could react, Galacta had already removed the main spearhead. Holding it like a cookie, she bit into it with loud, crisp crunches.
"You… you ate my weapon?"
The Sea God rubbed his eyes in disbelief, convinced it must be some kind of illusion. But when he looked again, all that remained in his hands was a bare, smooth staff, stripped of its once-formidable prongs.
"It tastes pretty good," Galacta said, her eyes sparkling. "I can tell this was a top-tier weapon. Give me the rest of it, and I'll make sure your death is quick and painless."
"Monster… She's a monster," the Sea God muttered, a chill running down his spine.
The trident was his magnum opus. While not the strongest weapon in the universe, it ranked among the top ten cosmic armaments. With a casual swing, it could reshape landscapes and stir oceans. And now, it had been reduced to a snack by this seemingly young girl. Who would believe such a thing?
"These people are monsters! If I keep this up, I'm going to die for sure. I need to escape!" the Sea God thought, his panic growing. Both Han Yu and Galacta had far exceeded his expectations.
In a flash, he retreated to the sides of the Frost Giant and the Fire Giant. Lowering his voice, he said urgently, "The three of us will attack that man together. Make as much noise as possible, and when the opportunity arises, I'll lead you both to escape. Understood?"
"Understood," the two giants replied, nodding.
Both were equipped with enhancements provided by the Sea God, amplifying their elemental powers.
The Fire Giant extended his arms, conjuring flames of searing heat in his palms.
The Frost Giant clasped his hands together, icy snowflakes swirling between them as they prepared their devastating attacks.
However, neither noticed the glint of treachery in the Sea God's eyes. With a sudden motion, he pulled out two mechanical devices and slapped them onto the backs of the Frost Giant and Fire Giant.
"Sorry, but I have to sacrifice you to save myself!"
The force of his blow sent both giants flying. Caught off guard, they had never anticipated betrayal from the one they trusted to watch their backs.
As they tumbled through the air, the devices on their backs detonated. The explosion ripped them apart, scattering their remains in all directions. The energy contained within their bodies erupted, mixing violently in the aftermath.
The intense cold of the Frost Giant's power and the searing heat of the Fire Giant's flames clashed, neither yielding to the other. The resulting atmosphere became an extreme mix of freezing cold and scorching heat. Areas touched by the icy aura froze solid, turning everything to ice from the inside out.
