Chapter 2: Friendship System
The first floor of a converted restaurant was part of a seven-story small apartment building facing the street in Hell's Kitchen, New York City.
The sign above the restaurant's wooden door read "Lucky Dragon," and below it hung a banner that said, "Business is Booming!"
On either side of the entrance, red lanterns glowed faintly, and underneath them lay a scruffy brown dog wearing a black eye patch.
Inside, a masked man dressed in a red bodysuit with a black eye patch on his mask groaned dramatically.
"Ryuji, are you ready yet? I'm starving here! I feel like I might just waste away to bones!" the man called out.
The voice was unmistakable—Deadpool, the infamous mercenary known for his constant chatter.
"Push it any further, Wade, and I might just let you starve," Ryuji quipped as he walked out of the kitchen, carrying several dishes on a tray.
Ryuji, a tall, athletic young man with short black hair, placed the food on the table in front of Deadpool.
Deadpool's masked face lit up as he reached for the food.
Ryuji turned to the white-haired young man behind the bar and called out, "Pietro, grab the rest of the dishes from the kitchen."
Pietro, also known as Quicksilver, gave a thumbs-up while adjusting his goggles.
In the blink of an eye, he zipped across the room, and before anyone could process it, four dishes and a bowl of soup were already on the table.
"Man, Pietro, your speed never gets old. If I had your powers, I'd hit up every bank twice a day," Deadpool said, clearly impressed.
Pietro smirked, pouring himself a glass of Coke, and replied, "That's why you don't have my powers, Wade."
"All right, enough chatter. Wanda's busy today, so let's dig in," Ryuji said.
With that, the three began eating, Deadpool and Pietro tearing into the food with abandon.
As Ryuji watched the two devour their meals, his thoughts drifted.
He had been in the Marvel universe for 23 years, stranded in Hell's Kitchen after crossing over from another world.
His father had died in a gang fight, leaving him the small apartment building they lived in.
Ryuji had just graduated college a year ago and now ran a restaurant while doing part-time jobs to make ends meet.
Deadpool, sitting in front of him, had been his roommate ever since Ryuji offered him food and shelter after meeting him during one of his jobs.
The reason? A system that Ryuji had awakened after crossing into this chaotic world.
The Friendship System allowed him to gain skills, abilities, and even items from people who agreed to be his friend.
The more their friendship deepened, the more rewards he could obtain.
Wanda and Pietro, on the other hand, had been rescued by Ryuji during a mission.
Since they had nowhere else to go, Ryuji let them stay in his apartment, knowing they could help protect it if something like the New York invasion ever happened.
Suddenly, a voice echoed in his mind.
[Ding! Congratulations to the host! Wade Wilson's favorability has risen to three stars!]
[Reward: Healing Factor. Would you like to merge it now?] the system prompted.
Ryuji's eyes lit up. Finally, the healing factor he'd been hoping for had appeared.
"System," he asked cautiously, "Deadpool only survived this power because of his cancer. Will I, you know, die if I fuse with it?"
[Host, rest assured. The system will ensure the ability is safely integrated. No side effects will occur.]
"Good. Then fuse it immediately," Ryuji commanded.
A sudden wave of energy coursed through his body as his cells began mutating, adapting to their newfound ability.
Moments later, Ryuji opened his eyes, feeling stronger than ever.
Deadpool paused mid-bite and glanced at him before shrugging and returning to his food.
"System, open my status panel," Ryuji instructed.
A translucent screen appeared before him:
[Name: Ryuji]
[Race: Human]
[Skills: Combat Skills Lv10, Healing Factor, Physical Fitness Lv10, Speed Lv2, Chaos Magic Lv1, Driving Mastery Lv3, Reaction Speed Lv7, Swordsmanship Lv5, Marksmanship Lv3, Animal Communication Lv4, Cooking Lv5, Lockpicking Lv3.]
[System Evaluation: You're no longer cannon fodder. You can go 50-50 with Captain America, but if you face Thanos, you should probably run.]
Ryuji sighed, his brief excitement deflating.
"If this is the movie version of Thanos, maybe I have a chance. But if it's the comic version… well, I'm screwed."
He shook his head, pushing those thoughts aside.
For now, his focus was on making more allies and strengthening his abilities. He had to survive in this world, and for that, he needed friends—or at least people who thought they were his friends.
"Ryuji," Deadpool's voice broke his train of thought, "there's a big job coming up. Want in?"
"How big are we talking, Wade? You know I'm picky about my jobs," Ryuji replied.
"Fifty million dollars," Deadpool said, holding up five fingers dramatically.
Ryuji blinked in surprise. That was ten times bigger than any job he'd taken before.
"What's the job?" Ryuji asked, his expression turning serious.
Deadpool pointed to the TV, which was broadcasting breaking news.
"The world-renowned billionaire, Tony Stark, has gone missing during a private trip. Stark Industries' stock has plummeted following his disappearance."
Pietro, who had been listening nearby, suddenly stood up, slamming his hands on the table. "I'm not taking this job! Stark deserves whatever he gets—he's nothing but an arms dealer!"
