Chapter 25: Mission: Wakanda
A sharp knife touched Fury's neck from behind, but he barely flinched.
"Put your hands where I can see. Try anything funny, and you won't live to regret it," A female voice came from behind.
Fury raised his hands slowly. "Just here to talk."
"Open the door number 8 and move in slowly," The woman with her knife to his throat spoke, "One false move, and I slice. Are we clear?"
Fury nodded, his hands still up. "Crystal."
He unlocked the door and walked inside the room. 'She set up a decoy room. She's good.' The knife pressed into his back, and Fury quickly continued, his footsteps slow. Inside the room, he saw another woman, pointing a gun at him.
"You wanna talk? Take a seat. And keep your hands up," The first woman pulled the knife back, allowing Fury to turn around and sit on the worn-out chair. He finally got a good look at the woman in front of him. Her face was an exact match of the image Bruce Wayne had provided.
"Selina Kyle, I presume," Fury's voice was calm, but there was a hint of amusement in his tone.
"And you are?" Selina asked, her expression guarded.
"Nick Fury, the leader of the Resistance against Magneto."
Selina leaned on the wall and said, "And how do you know my name?"
"Bruce Wayne asked me to find you."
"You met Bruce? Is he alright? What about Harley? Is she with him?" Selina's voice was urgent, her eyes searching Fury's for any sign of a lie.
Fury smiled faintly. "Yes, they're both alive and well. In fact, they are going around, destroying Magneto's hold on the world. Soon, we'll be going for one final war."
Selina sighed in relief. She was too worried about them, especially Harley. "They are okay," she murmured, more to herself than anyone else. She looked back at Fury, her gaze serious. "You have a way to contact them?" She asked. She just wanted to make sure that the man before her wasn't lying.
"Yes. Bruce left a message for you," Fury said as he lowered his right hand and took out a small device from his pocket. It was a simple holographic transmitter, designed to send short, encrypted messages. He activated it.
[If you are seeing this message then Fury must have found you. I'm glad that you are safe and not to worry, I'm alright and keeping Harley, somewhat in control for now. Anyway, go with him and wait at the base. We'll be back soon. I have lots to tell you about. And Selina, stay safe. Love you.]
The device cracked with a sizzle of electricity, soon, turning to scrap metal.
"So, what's your plan now?" Fury asked.
"Let's go to your base. Oh, and she's coming with me," Selina pointed at Hela.
"Sure," Fury nodded as he stood up. "And she is?"
"Hela, Goddess of Death," Hela answered with her usual arrogant tone.
"Hela?! Thor's sister was supposed to be dead after Asgard's fall," Fury asked as he tried his best to maintain his calm expression. He already has his hands full with Magneto and mutants and now the dead Goddes of Death was standing before him. He couldn't help but rub the corner of his eyes. 'How many more surprises will I have to take? Wait! If she's the Goddess of Death then what is she doing with a gun? Something isn't right.'
"Apparently, I am not. And judging by Earth's condition, my little brother must be away from home," Hela said as she put her gun back in its holster. "Where is he?"
"Thor left with the Guardians after the Thanos war. We haven't been in contact with them since then," Fury replied as he eyed the Goddess carefully. She was definitely powerful, but something told him that she wasn't a threat. "So, if you don't mind me asking, what is the Goddess of Death doing on Earth? I doubt you are on a vacation."
Hela let out a soft chuckle, "I do mind. Let's go." She began to walk out of the room without sparing a glance at Fury.
Selina smirked at Fury and followed after the Goddess.
Fury sighed as he walked out of the room, 'What is she planning? Why is she on Earth? Is she after revenge? If she wanted destruction then why hasn't she taken any steps so far? With her power, it should be easy to take advantage of the ongoing chaos. Did she get banished to Earth, like Thor?!'

[Back to Bruce]
Bruce's eyes narrowed at the mention of Pepper Potts. His demeanor shifted from calculated to intense, the mere thought of her in danger reigniting old memories. He clenched his fists before letting out a slow breath. There was no room for rash decisions. He had to stick to the plan.
"Elena, follow the original plan. But adjust for Pepper. Ensure her safety at all costs. Create the diversion, free Shuri and the rest, and neutralize Magneto's forces. Leave Magneto alive, but if they so much as scratch Pepper... consider that condition void."
"Understood," Elena responded, her holographic eyes flickering as she recalibrated her protocols. Her face, normally neutral, showed a hint of something deeper—an emotional undertone, perhaps concern or empathy. Even in her synthetic core, Elena had developed a connection to those important to Tony, and Pepper was no exception.
"Also, make sure Shuri and her people are armed with the best Wakandan tech. Give them a fighting chance if things get messy," Bruce added.
"Affirmative," Elena replied, her fingers typing faster than any human could, uploading defensive subroutines into Wakanda's security systems and accessing hidden caches of vibranium-based weaponry. A web of data flooded her interface, each line of code representing a new layer of control over Wakanda's technological heart.
[Wakanda - Shuri's Cell]
Shuri sat alone in her cell, surrounded by cold, metallic walls that were nothing like the warm vibranium-infused designs she had helped craft throughout Wakanda. Her brilliant mind had been racing for days, trying to come up with a plan to free herself and her people. But Magneto's forces had been relentless, watching her every move, using her knowledge against her will. The thought of her inventions being twisted for war sickened her, but she had to stay strong for her people.
She paced the small room, her fingers tracing invisible lines of circuitry in the air, her mind lost in thought. She was tired, physically and emotionally, but she knew she couldn't give up. There had to be a way out. She just hadn't found it yet.
Suddenly, her isolation was interrupted by the faint hum of technology coming to life around her. Shuri stopped, her eyes narrowing as she noticed the subtle shift in the room. The security cameras, normally pointed directly at her, flickered for a moment and then swiveled away as if something had taken control.
Her heart raced. This wasn't normal. 'The resistance?! Did they succeed in hacking through the system?' She wondered.
Before she could think further, the sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway. The lab guards were coming. They came like clockwork every few hours, dragging her to the lab to force her to work on augmenting their machines. She could hear their voices—low, gruff, and getting closer.
Shuri prepared herself, as she always did, mentally fortifying against the oncoming ordeal. But just as the guards reached her cell door, something unexpected happened.
A soft "beep" came from the panel on the wall, and then, without warning, the guards' comm devices went dead.
"What the fuck?!" One of them complained as he felt a tiny jolt in his ear.
"This shit is broken," The other one took off his comms and checked.
They were talking to each other as they tried to get their systems back online. One of the guards reached for the door, but before his hand could touch the panel, bolts of plasma shot out from the ceiling turrets, killing them on the spot. They crumpled to the floor with multiple holes in their bodies.
Shuri stepped back, her heart pounding. She stared at the guards, stunned, as the door to her cell slid open with a quiet hiss. She wasn't sure what had just happened, but this was her chance.
"Huh?!" Her eyes fell on the security panel outside her cell.
[Pick up the comms]
It was a message displayed on the panel, with an arrow pointing toward the fallen guards. Shuri hesitated for a second before hurrying out and picking up one of the guards' comm devices. As soon as she put it on, a voice spoke through the speaker.
"Shuri, this is Elena."
"Who?" Shuri asked, confused. She didn't recognize the voice.
"I'll help you and everyone out of here. But first, you have to save Pepper Potts. I'll guide you to the armory now. Your suit is there. Get it and suit up. It's time to end this war." Elena said, her tone cold and calculated.
