Chapter 107: Chapter 106: An Opportunity Worthy of a God

"Sometimes, fate just... fate just up-and-fucks you for no good reason. That's the way'a the world! The way it's always gonna be."

"Hahaha, I did it. I escaped. Take that brother, you will never have me. I am the great Loki, the God of Lies and Mischief, and the prince of Asgard. No prison in the world can ever hold me against my will." Loki laughed like a man possessed as he exited an ice cave with nothing but snow lying all around him. He looked tired with dirty snow smudged all over his face and clothes, his hair disheveled as if he had just been in a street fight, and a slight limp was also visible on his left leg but the confident charming smile on his face was still present. "Now, I just have to figure out exactly where I am and then I can get back to planning how to take revenge against my family. After all, this might be the best time for me to make a move since it doesn't look like Father would be recovering soon from the recent attack on his life." He muttered to himself before quickly snapping his fingers and cleaning himself with magic.
Since Loki was still imprisoned during Atem's battle with Odin, he was not privy to the full details of the conflict. He only knew that the person who had defeated him on Midgard was also behind the recent assault on Asgard. He had tried to glean rumors from the guards and eyewitnesses before making his escape from the realm but none of them were aware of the real reason behind the battle. Even the few eyewitnesses to Odin and Atem's clash only claimed that the fight was on a completely different scale and proved that the two were in a league of their own.
Also, despite initially seeming like both Odin and Atem were evenly tied in power, the All-Father was said to have largely dominated most of the fight, with entities like Heimdall, Thor, and the All-Mother unable even to intervene much less halt the battle. Atem, on the other hand, mostly defended himself throughout the fight and could only cause significant injury to the All-Father with his final move before he was visibly banished to only Odin knew where.
However, that one final attack apparently involved Odin being... assaulted and mutilated by hundreds of tentacles belonging to some Eldrich beings. No Asgardian had the guts to say it in public, but Loki was damn sure that those blobs of tentacles might have penetrated a couple of Odin's "sacred" places they weren't supposed to. Nonetheless, Asgard was able to expunge those creatures after the All-Father fought against them for days on end along with the entire Asgardian army without a single moment of respite. Although the attack was meant to be purely on him, the ensuing war was responsible for a lot of damage in the dimension and had caused panic among the Asgardians, panic that had enabled Loki to escape through one of the hidden interdimensional rifts that connected Asgard with Midgard.
'Now all I have to do is just find a way off this godforsaken planet to get some powerful allies. Father should remain in his Odin-Sleep for quite some time because of his injuries and how much power he had to spend eliminating those tentacle monsters and reversing the damage to the realm. Maybe I should consider allying with those Skrulls or the Kree or maybe even the Shi'ar... but again, none of them have the spine to go against Asgard. The only one who does is probably... the Mad Titan but again making him an ally might have some serious consequences. Not only is he too smart to be used as a pawn but there is a reason why he is called "mad"...
But then again, at least, he won't be as scary as those tentacle monsters. Those things looked like they were straight from the nightmares of Hel. I was only able to see one of their silhouettes for a single moment from a distance but that one moment was like months for me. I could still remember my entire body refusing to move, the ichor in my veins freezing due to fear. As a matter of fact, I think I might have even had what humans call a stroke at that time.' Loki thought to himself with a gulp. 'Nope, I definitely don't want to meet those creatures again in this life.'
While Loki was busy planning the next steps of his grand plan, he failed to notice that a giant of an obese man wearing a white suit, a pair of round pitch-black sunglasses, and a red tarboush cap was silently observing him from behind with a creepy smile on his face.
"Huh, I've finally found you. You're a difficult man to meet, Loki Odinson, or do you go by Laufeyson now?" the man questioned, catching the God of Lies and Mischief by surprise with his sudden presence.
"... It has been centuries since someone was able to sneak up on me without me being able to sense them. You should be a very special mortal for being able to do this, but I hope for your sake that you have an important reason to approach me like this because if you don't then I am afraid that I'll have to kill you to appease my displeasure at the disturbance you just caused me." Loki threatened with a smile as part of the cradle of eternal winters manifested in front of him, ready to be used at a moment's notice.
"Of course, I do. I am not stupid enough to approach a god like you without knowing the consequences of annoying them. However, I am positive that once you hear me out, you will find that I can be of much use to you and your glorious purpose alive rather than dead. After all, I am but a humble servant meant to serve you." The man answered, his crooked mile not at all wavering from his face.
"A humble servant? Well, as much as I like the sound of that, I still don't know who you are and who exactly sent you. Because my five thousand years of experience is telling me that you are not the type to serve under someone willingly without anything to gain yourself." Loki guessed while raising one of his eyebrows at the man as if asking him a question.
"You are smarter than you let on... I am someone called the Shadow King and yes, someone indeed sent me here for a purpose, someone who knows you and your family quite well. He wants to help you retake the throne to Asgard and in return, all he asks for is a chance at revenge against his old nemesis, your father." The man replied with a disgustingly creepy smile on his face that showed all his ugly yet sharp teeth at once. "He is not new to Asgard's family politics, and he has been in the same place you are now. He has also been overshadowed by his brother, treated like dirt by his father, and despite being the visible best of his siblings, he was also never even given the chance to succeed... just like you."
"So sad." Loki wiped a mock tear from his eye before waving his hand and making his magical icy weapon disappear again. "Anyway, I just have two questions. Do I know of this person, and how can he help me take Asgard's throne?" He asked, not even showing the tiniest amount of empathy for the sob story that Shadow King was uttering. He was too experienced of a liar and schemer to fall for such simple manipulations.
"He will give you his army and his power along with a weapon that can match even your brother's mighty hammer. And all he asks for in return is your help in freeing him from the prison your father put him in and after you are done taking over the throne, leaving Odin to him." Shadow King answered. "As for whether you know him, I think you might. After all, he is your uncle..., Cul Borson the same brother that Odin had tried his best to erase from history after snatching the throne that rightfully belonged to Cul."
"... Wait, what?" Loki asked in utter surprise. He had expected the person who had just promised him help in waging war against Asgard to be anything but normal. However, even he in his wildest dreams hadn't expected this. An unknown uncle who hated his father and promised him help to fulfill his glorious purpose... it almost sounded too good to be true. But that didn't mean Loki would just say no out of sheer paranoia of being betrayed. 'Not like he will get the chance to betray me in the first place. I will dispose of them the very moment I don't need their help anymore. But I will be kind enough to keep whatever weapon or army they have for myself. After all, how difficult would it be to take care of an obese creep and an old Norse god who lost to my father thousands of years ago? in fact, if one were to go by the standards of my adoptive family with the exception of my mother, chances are that he is not that hard to fool anyway.' Loki mused.
"No need to be surprised. There are plenty of things that the All-Father has done and then tried to make everyone forget. But we can talk about all that later since we need to leave now. They can be here anytime. With the help of the Great Serpent, I can cloak our presence here for only so long. Those six telepath sisters working for that false god are tracking my every move with the help of that mind-reading machine of theirs and the sorcerers of Midgard are also very sensitive when it comes to planning on breaking gods out of their prisons. I am currently not powerful enough to hide both of our presences at the same time from all of them out here in the open. We need to get you to the hammer of Skadi. Once you possess the hammer and become a vessel for 'his' power, it will be much easier for us." Shadow King explained with a slightly hasty voice as he gestured for Loki to follow him.
The god of mischief, of course, wanted to ask a couple of more questions like since when did Midgard start having its own sorcerers or who were the telepath sisters Shadow King was talking about, but he figured that he had plenty of time to get his questions answered. What he needed to do right now was survive and grow in power away from prying eyes and for now, following the fat mortal's directions seemed the best way to do that. So, resisting the impulse to exert his authority and demand further details about the circumstances, Loki opted to silently follow the man to wherever he was leading.

"You should have heeded my words when I advised you to accept the deal and surrender," Atem declared, his face etched with regret as he shifted to sit more comfortably on his new throne before leaning forward to gently touch the blood-stained face of the Queen of Heaven who was sitting before him on the ground, her head bowed low and one of her pristine white wings torn from her back. "At least you could have kept your honor and respect in front of all your citizens that way. However, now, you are just a failure to them, a loser who not only doomed their home but also their entire species to eternal slavery." He mocked as his red-ringed eyes swept over the hundreds of angels lying bloodied and broken all over the palace grounds like a bunch of wingless insects. "But you can still save their lives at least. All you have to do is agree to my terms and form a... blood pact with me with the help of my magic and you will have everything you ever desired and more. All this death and suffering will go away like it never even existed, and the entire race of angels will be born anew." The new god offered in his seductive voice.
The Queen looked dazed because of the immense pain she was feeling, her eyes burning with shame and weakness, but she knew that she had to make a decision if she and the rest of her kin were to survive, and she knew exactly what the decision had to be. "... I... I-I... accept." She muttered in her strained voice, finally giving in as her shoulders slumped with defeat.
There was nothing else she could do. The average strength of an army of angels was greater than most pantheons of gods but the angels always lacked when it came to heavyweights. There was only one Sky-Father level being in her race right now and that was her. The rest were strong but nowhere near her level. And if she was in this condition after fighting this monster of a god despite being that strong, she knew no one else in her race had a better chance at defeating him, not even her glorified attack dog Angela.
in fact, the best thing she could do for her race right now was to willingly submit to this person while biding her time. After all, even the most carefully laid plans and strategies fail to succeed in the face of absolute might.
