Marrying a Disabled General and be His Wife

Chapter 8

It was already dark when they finally done talking.

Tan Chuyan had dinner in Ling-han Pavilion and was about to go sleep, Yan Changfeng suddenly knocked on his door.

“What’s the matter?” Tan Chuyan asked sleepily as he huddled in the bed.

Yan Changfeng said through the door, “Young master, the eldest princess and third prince are here after hearing the news. Do you want to go and see them?”

“No.” Tan Chuyan said without hesitation, “Just tell them, I have gone to sleep.”

Yan Changfeng, “But-”

Tan Chuyan interrupted him, “There’s no but. Just do as I say.”

Yan Changfeng replied, “Yes.”

After Yan Changfeng left, Tianbao who was guarding over Tan Chuyan’s side put his chin on the edge of the bed.

“Your highness, aren’t you going to assist the eldest princess? Since they came here, why don’t you meet them?”

The tip of Tan Chuyan’s nose felt cold so he retracted his head into the quilt, “I want to see them, they definitely know that.”

Although he had made the decision but he wanted to see how sincere the eldest princess was. If she was rejected once, would she come back again or left to find another way?

Moreover, if he casually joined the eldest princess’ camp. He might won’t gain any respect or trust from the eldest princess. Tan Chuyan needed to have her trust to be her minister and advisor.

After all, human heart was the most unpredictable thing. If one day the eldest princess was provoked by someone and still didn’t trust him. She might send him to death by herself.

He didn’t want this.

.

.

Tan Chuyan kept the eldest princess in the dark for seven days, but the eldest princess still came every day in hope to meet him. This showed how much sincere she had, no less than Liu Huangshu who visited the thatched cottage three times.

What surprised Tan Chuyan was the third prince, Chu Yiling who had always been known as the playboy, actually came here every day like the eldest princess. He even met the eldest princess several times.

Chu Yiling wasn’t curious about Chu Qingyi asking for help. After all, everyone had known that the eldest princess was interested in the fight for heir apparent and their father gave his approval.

Chu Yiling simply couldn’t understand why their father made such decision. Since ancient times, how could a woman participate in the fight for the throne? It was simply ridiculous!

But the father and son, the monarch and his minister, were still restricted by rules and etiquette. He couldn’t do anything about their father’s decision.

.

.

For Chu Yiling, it was unlucky to meet Chu Qingyi three times a week. When he met Chu Qingyi again on the seventh day, he couldn’t hold himself anymore.

“Eldest sister has a lot of free time. She goes to Ling-han Pavilion every day.” Chu Yiling held the jade fan in his hand and said, “I don’t think Ling-han Pavilion is doing any auction. What does eldest sister ask for when she comes?”

Chu Qingi had always said the truth. She didn’t like making excuses even with another prince. She looked at Chu Yiling and answered, “You know exactly why I was here. There’s no need to pretend to be confused. If the beauties in your palace didn’t take you seriously, don’t come at me for a beating. I won’t treat you well at all.”

Chu Yiling’s face suddenly changed, but he recovered quickly. His eyes looked at his eldest sister coldly.

He shook his jade fan and looked at Yan Changfeng who was entertaining them, “Eldest sister treats her own brother so harshly in front an outsider. Isn’t she afraid of being criticized as unkind?”

If it weren’t for Chu Yiling’s mother who ordered the maids to set fire on Chang-le Palace. How could Chu Qingyi’s mother and her one-month-old brother were buried in the flames?

Therefore, whenever she met Chu Yiling, she felt a lot of resentment inside her heart. Her attitude towards him was never good at all.

Even if she knew that what the parents did wasn’t the children’s fault but she couldn’t control her feelings whenever she saw Chu Yiling.

Chu Qingyi suppressed her emotions and warned, “Don’t play innocent in front of me. If you think I’m a good-tempered person, keep going.”

In fact, Chu Qingyi was quite gentle to Chu Yiling when she was a child. However, after losing her mother when she was young, she was bullied in the palace and others treated her coldly.

Later, she was taken to her uncle’s house and raised inside the General’s Mansion. She had been infected with the blood of soldiers, ever since then, her temper changed drastically.

Chu Yiling knew what his mother had done to Chu Qingyi, he understood why Chu Qingyi never gave him a good look. It was good if she didn’t stab him to vent her anger.

But this anger was hard for him to swallow. After all, he didn’t anything wrong but he was being blamed for it.

Chu Yiling covered half of his face with the jade fan and his fingers slowly slip up the soft sword on his waist but before he could pull it out, his hand was held down.

He saw a man with a ghost face mask appearing behind him at some point. He took his hand away from the hilt of the sword and reminded him, “Your highness, the young master didn’t like a trouble. I’m afraid something bad would happen if you strike the sword.”

Chu Yiling suppressed his anger, it would be bad if he made a mess in front of the young master.

However, he was here to ask for advice. Why did the master of Purity Sect come here to join the fun?

It seemed he had unusual relationship with the young master.

.

.

“Your highness, your highness!” Tianbao had been quietly watching the movements in the front hall.

When he saw the uninvited guest, he immediately ran back to tell Tan Chuyan, “Someone is here. That person.”

“Who is it?” Tan Chuyan sat lazily in front of the window, he was admiring the plum blossoms and stretched out his hands to play with the delicate petals.

“That one,” Tianbao knew very well that the prince didn’t like Yan Lie, the master of Purity Sect. So, he could only say, “The one who can stop crying at night is here, he also said that you-”

“What?” Tan Chuyan asked casually, he knew in his heart that this person had been appointed and arranged for him.

Tianbao whispered, “He said that you are a good person.”

Tan Chuyan laughed angrily with a breathy sound in his mouth.

He pinched off a petal from the plum blossom and crushed it with his fingers. He said unhappily, “That annoying man is always making nonsense!”

Tan Chuyan took out the handkerchief and wiped the mess on his fingers. He couldn’t get rid of the color; he gave up and let it go.

Tan Chuyan put down the handkerchief and stretched out his hand towards Tianbao, “Bao’er, where is my veil?”

“Here. here.” Tianbao turned around and took out a small box from the cabinet. He pulled out a veil made from snow silk and gave to Tan Chuyan.

This veil was custom-made, it was white and flawless without any decoration. There was a silver hook especially added to keep the veil from falling off.

After Tianbao tied it for Tan Chuyan, he touched his own hair, “Your highness, if I were a woman, I would marry you in this life.”

“Shut your mouth.” Tan Chuyan didn’t tie up his hair, he twisted it a bit and pinned the hair with wooden hairpin.

Even so, it was hard to hide his beauty.

But Tan Chuyan never cared about such things, face and skin would fade away with age.

After Tan Chuyan straightened his clothes, he asked Tianbao to do something very important quietly. Then he rushed towards the waiting room of Ling-han Pavilion.

Before he entered the room, he saw the big buddha from the Purity Sect stuck at the door like a door guard.

Yan Changfeng stood aside and looked around. He was waiting for Tan Chuyan.

When he saw the person was coming, Yan Changfeng raised his feet to meet him. Who would have thought that the door guard moved faster than him.

The man was at Tan Chuyan’s side in a flash and his movement were very affectionate.

“You came so slowly.” Yan Lie tried to grab Tan Chuyan’s shoulder but Tan Chuyan dodged him like a loach. His fingertips could only catch a strand of black hair.

“Don’t do anything.” Tan Chuyan didn’t give him any face.

Yan Lie retracted his hand, “We are so familiar, why don’t you let me hold you?”

“You smell like blood.” Tan Chuyan distanced himself further away, “I don’t like it.”

Although Tan Chuyan had killed many people, but he wasn’t a murderer. On the contrary, he hated killing and the smell of blood.

It was the situation that forced him to be cruel and stained his hands with blood. If he didn’t take action, he would be the one who bears the burnt.

Yan Lie raised his arms and took his sleeves to his nose then put it in front of Tan Chuyan, “It didn’t smell anything. Just a nice smell, I took a bath for an hour before seeing you.”

Tan Chuyan patted Yan Lie’s arm away, “Stop it, don’t make trouble with me. We have business to do.”

“I came to see you for business. Why don’t you listen to me first, before going in?” Yan Lie turned around and stood in front of Tan Chuyan.

He was so tall and blocked Tan Chuyan’s sight. The man was a scoundrel and stalker. If he didn’t listen to him, he wouldn’t give up at all.

Tan Chuyan sighed with headache, “Speak quickly.”

Yan Lie had already used to his behavior, he took a paper from his arms and spread it on his palm, “Look, someone agreed to pay me one hundred thousand taels of gold for your head. Guess who is it?”
