Chapter 51 - 51 Unforeseen Changes in the Weather
Chapter 51: Chapter 51 Unforeseen Changes in the Weather
“What are you standing there for? Pick them up,” Xu Ying said.
A few people quickly ran to the wild chickens, each holding one in their hands, and happily walked toward Xu Ying.
Xu Jing felt that today was a good day; she and her cousin had come to the right place.
And that was not all; while they were descending the mountain, they filled their bags with mushrooms. There were so many wild chickens and wild chicken eggs that they had no place to put them.
In the end, she took some of the younger ones back first to drop off the items, while Xu Ying stayed on the mountain to keep watch.
To prevent these wild items from being discovered, after they left, Xu Ying put several into the space, leaving only two wild chickens by her feet.
She sat on a rock, bored and drooping her head, waiting for everyone to return.
“Umm,” groaned Xu Ying, feeling some pain in her lower abdomen, quickly followed by a warm flow. Her face suddenly turned pale.
Could it be her menstrual period had started? It was possible; after all, she had been there for over a month and it had not yet come.
Xu Ying looked around and, seeing no one, tore open a pack of sanitary pads and quickly ducked into the space to change.
After coming out of the space, Xu Ying’s face was a bit pale, and her stomach hurt intermittently.
In her previous life, it had been the same; ever since she had an accident in the water, her body had been injured, and every period was excruciating.
Sweat formed on Xu Ying’s forehead from the pain, and she leaned on a rock, barely feeling better.
“System, what’s that sound?” Xu Ying weakly asked.
She heard the sound of something running not far away, and the ground trembled a bit with the noise. It couldn’t be a bear, could it?
Xu Ying’s face turned even paler. Talk about bad luck.
She was already feeling unwell with her period, and now she faced such a dangerous creature.
Oh God, please let Xu Jing and the others not have returned yet so she could hide in the space for a while.
But fate had other plans, just as she had finished thinking, she heard the voices of Xu Jing and the others in the distance.
“Today we’ve all been blessed thanks to Sister Yingying. Aunt always says Yingying is lucky, and today I truly believe it.”
Usually, after it had rained, although there would be mushrooms on the mountain, it wasn’t as easy as today; they found them everywhere they went.
And not to mention those wild chickens. Even though they weren’t as plump as hens, they were still meat.
Thinking about having meat for dinner, Xu Jing felt utterly delighted.
Xu Ying had knocked out five wild chickens in total, one for each household, with one left over.
The remaining one, Xu Ying planned to give to Lu Daya.
“Yingying, we’ve come to get you,” called Xu Jing’s voice.
Xu Ying, holding a wild chicken, ran quickly towards them, “Hurry, there’s a wild boar!”
At the mention of wild boar, the face of Xu Jing and Xu Xue turned ashen.
Without wasting words, they turned to run.
Xu Ying watched the wild boar getting closer on the simulation map, her face turning increasingly ugly. It wasn’t just one, but a group of wild boars, two large ones and two young boars.
Though they were young, they were large enough to startle a person, the size of a waist already.
The wild boars were running even faster, and soon they were nearly upon them.
“Wild, wild boars,” Xu Jing trembled in fear, her legs shaking and going weak. Forget running, she could barely even step forward.
Xu Ying clenched the machete in her hand, her pale face determined.
“Help your elder cousin over there to the side,” Xu Ying said, glancing at Xu Xue.
She hadn’t expected that Xu Xue, who usually seemed so timid, would be braver than her elder cousin on this day.
Xu Xue was reluctant upon hearing this: “Second cousin, it’s not good for you to stay here by yourself.”
“What can you do to help me?”
Xu Xue’s face turned white, and eventually, she resigned herself to helping Xu Jing walk away.
On either side of the forest, there were trees, and the wind rustled through the leaves, creating a hissing sound.
Xu Ying stood in the forest, holding the machete, the wind blowing her hair, adding a touch of disheveled beauty.
Her stomach was becoming more uncomfortable, but seeing the wild boars drawing closer, she couldn’t move.
Xu Jing and the other person still hadn’t descended the mountain.
“Xu Ying,” a familiar voice came, Xu Ying’s tensed body instantly relaxed, “Huo Chen!”
Her voice was weak and feeble, with a hint of coquettishness.
When Huo Chen heard her voice, his eyes flickered, and he strode towards Xu Ying, directly taking the knife from her hand.
He had seen the power of this knife before, so compared to his own, he chose Xu Ying’s.
“Go stand over there,” Huo Chen’s tone was unquestionable.
He saw that something was off with Xu Ying and immediately called for Old Hui.
At that moment, the group of wild boars also charged over.
Huo Chen grasped the chopper firmly with both hands and ran towards the wild boars, Old Hui closely following behind him.
With a “slash,” the chopper hit a boar’s head, the sharp blade slicing through the boar’s skin.
The boar, in pain, ran wildly, dashing madly and thrusting in all directions.
As Huo Chen dodged, he didn’t forget to land another slash.
The moment Huo Chen lifted his knife, Old Hui leapt up and lunged towards the young boar with its jaw wide open.
It bit down on the boar’s neck; the youngster frantically thrashed, trying to shake Old Hui off.
Unable to do so, it rammed crazily against a tree stump, but Old Hui wasn’t foolish and immediately jumped down.
If Old Hui were still young, the young boar wouldn’t stand a chance; it would have been subdued in an instant.
But now, with his increasing age, both his ferocity and reaction speed weren’t what they used to be.
After Huo Chen killed a large boar, he attacked the youngster five or six times before succeeding in killing it.
The remaining adult boar, sensing danger, abandoned its young and fled.
Huo Chen and Old Hui worked together to take down another young boar.
At this point, Xu Ying was leaning against a tree.
Huo Chen walked over with a puzzled look, “Do you need help?”
He smelled blood on Xu Ying but didn’t know where she was injured.
Xu Ying shook her head, “First, let’s carry the boar down the mountain, we don’t want to attract other animals.
My cousin and cousin’s sister are over there, can you call them for me?”
Right now, she didn’t have the strength to walk down, so she could only rely on the two of them for support.
Had she known her period was coming, she wouldn’t have climbed the mountain no matter what.
Huo Chen glanced at Old Hui, who turned its head away pridefully, clearly unhappy.
Despite this, Old Hui eventually obeyed Huo Chen and lay down obediently.
Seeing this, Huo Chen left reassured.
Once Huo Chen was gone, Xu Ying looked at Old Hui and took out a Bone Marrow Cleansing Pill.
If it weren’t for Huo Chen and Old Hui, she probably would have been done for this time.
Old Hui, seeing what was in Xu Ying’s hand, looked at her warily.
Xu Ying too was afraid of the wolf; it wasn’t her pet, and they were not familiar with each other. What if it bit her?
She threw the Bone Marrow Cleansing Pill in front of Old Hui’s head.
Old Hui, frightened, shrank its neck; could this woman be plotting against him?
After waiting for a while and seeing no further action from Xu Ying, the faint scent of the Bone Marrow Cleansing Pill enticed Old Hui. It cautiously approached and promptly identified it as something valuable.
It stuck out its large tongue, rolled the pill into its mouth, stretched its neck, and swallowed the pill.
Xu Ying watched Old Hui swallow the Bone Marrow Cleansing Pill, and in a short while, the effects of the medicine took hold, causing Old Hui to writhe painfully on the ground.
When Huo Chen returned, he saw this scene, rushed over full of concern, and demanded, “What’s happened to Old Hui?”
