Man-made Satan

Chapter 1: An Alchemist

My name was...Michale Sydne, a guy who liked to draw symbols in his free time when he wasn't being an accountant. I was not even a good accountant as I had to recheck my work dozens of times to ensure I got the numbers right. Yeah, the same old day in and day out with humanity crushing my soul every single time a little more each day, and then giving me some hope when I watched animal rescue videos, not the fake ones the real ones.

The first ones always make me lose hope, so I tried to avoid them when I could. I dated a few times, even met someone to whom I was thinking of proposing, bought the ring and everything. Then well truck-kun came my way and ran me over, separating my soul and body forevermore.

I didn't know what to expect next, I was in a void for a very long time, so long that I think I forgot a lot of things about my own life. I think I went insane for a little bit as I finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel, so I swam towards it, although is swam the right word, or would float work better? Doesn't matter I went towards it eventually finding myself not in Heaven or Hell, not even one of the various mythological afterlives but instead I was reborn.

I was reborn in I think England or somewhere near there in a small village that barely had any modern conveniences. I lived my life for a bit of time without knowing the moonlit world, of magecraft and well wonders that can come with it all but mostly the horrors like Dead Apostles who feasted on humans to sustain themselves, sorta like vampires but not really at the same time as they were far more deadly.

I eventually discovered all the quote "gas leaks" unquote that happened in Japan and other parts of the world. Alongside the Fuyuki fire that I discovered whilst researching the "gas leaks," eventually I went about conducting good research on magecraft. I was about nineteen at the time, and when I finally unlocked my admittedly low number of magic circuits which were of mediocre rank I was finally able to become an alchemist.

I started as a simple chemist, developing tinctures that performed certain effects using the Od found in human beings whilst using the greater magical energy Mana for certain more complex potions or at least complex to me. It was always a complicated mess as I began to dive into my own specialization which involved using plants, and growing specific varieties using certain elements based on the five elemental array.

That one took me some time to figure out as I barely had any success with the original spells that I had discovered outside the clock Tower. Speaking of which I tried very hard for a long time to hide from them, never making any big waves or anything that could get their attention but one of the number one threats in this world ended up in my neck of the woods. Not my hometown that I had long since moved away from but rather the outskirts of a small proper city near a leyline.

A small one that now would notice if it was tampered with a bit, which I think attracted the Dead Apostle. Turns out that when you try and tamper with something natural to the earth, well things happen and it can release a bit more mana into the air. That was when I found out another Magus was living in the city instead of outside it, using the citizens in their own research into...death.

Yep that's right I accidentally helped create a Dead Apostle by giving them a bit more fuel to their research which was all they needed to become whatever they were. Luckily for well a lot of people in the city, whatever unit from the Clocktower eliminates Dead Apostles was tracking him down, which honestly I feel embarrassed about, the bit about not knowing the name of the agency or whatever it was called.

My emotions involving the Dead Apostle were...complicated but shame was definitely among them. I was also lucky in the fact I didn't have Lancer class luck as they didn't discover my involvement in the beings change or didn't punish me for it, luck me either way.

Anyway, I got invited to become part of the Clocktower or at least they were more or less aware of my existence as much as any first-generation Magus. It did give me access to the more basic research freely available to people. Making sure not to make any big waves or become part of any major incident, and never signing a geas without a pretty damn good reason.

I eventually met someone who was also a first-generation Magus who inspired me to start my research in the philosopher Stone. The one spoke of in legend as something that could give eternal life to the human who wields it. I'm not talking about the one created by Paracelsus during his life which I think was more like a computer than anything else, but the one spoke of in legend.

That fell by the wayside however as I got married, had a child, and had to teach that child magecraft. Eventually, me and my wife passed down our crest, which...was a pain in the ass to try and figure out how we could do so. By the time this all happened, we were both dying already and we could feel it, our child was an adult who had dived a bit into our family's newly established research.

He was just waiting for us to pass down our crest and once we all figured out how to do much to our own embarrassment. My wife was the first to pass on, she went out still studying, researching for whatever she was looking for, she never did tell me although she gave me a few hints about it but nothing concrete.

Afterward, I was next to go, with my son by my side for some reason crying for me. Even though I was undeserving of it the help in the creation fo the Dead Apostle wasn't my only mistake. That however would be a secret kept between me and my research notes, something I hope he discovered after I'm gone I did put it in an obvious spot after all.

This time when I was greeted by my old friend the darkness, I half expected to reawaken/be reborn once more without my memories this time.

As my now living body and still intact memories can tell that did not happen. Although I did think this was hell, just a living one as I had found myself in a world where Gods still walk amongst us and the Abrahamic factions exist.

I was also in Kuoh Town or whatever it was called.

Yeah, I really fucking hated that both the universe and the town I was born in.
