Zone A of the shooting range is the most popular area of the entire training field. Here, each guest has a private room equipped with a shooting range, simulation area, and other training facilities.
All shooting scores are recorded, and those with outstanding comprehensive data appear on the overall leaderboard, which has about fifty slots. Over the past year, the top position has been held by Major General Rhys, while the long-standing second place is occupied by a guest named Mixiu Qiao.
Mixiu is the young master of the beast clan, which maintains a friendly alliance with the zerg race. His upright manner and exceptional skills have made him a well-known figure at the training ground.
Today, there weren’t many people in Zone A. With his scent concealed, He Qin wouldn’t attract attention. He quietly chose a room, holding his laser gun, and under the guidance of the work robot, he activated the training ground’s competitive mode.
“Bang… bang… bang…” As more and more spent clips littered the floor, the entire training ground was filled with the smell of laser gunfire.
In just half an hour, He Qin had taken down one simulated enemy target after another. Despite not having trained for a long time, his shooting accuracy seemed to have improved significantly.
Every time a training target popped out from cover, it was as if he had a premonition, his body always managing to aim the gun at the target in advance.
Could this be what Ryan had mentioned to him, a manifestation of an A-grade male zerg’s mental abilities?
Sitting on the ground, panting heavily to recover his stamina, He Qin wiped the sweat from his forehead with his sleeve. To verify his feelings, he pressed the live-fire shooting competition button.
The live-fire shooting competition at the training ground tests accuracy, a crucial skill for every excellent soldier. Back at the Earth military camp, this shooting course was part of their daily practice. He Qin’s performance was above average, though he still lagged behind sharpshooters like Roy.
At first, the targets were large and close to He Qin, allowing him to easily hit the center point. As time passed, the difficulty increased until the target was the size of an apple and nearly 1,000 meters away.
But this didn’t seem to be a problem for him. Now, it felt like as long as he concentrated and focused on hitting the target, the apple-sized target would appear larger in his eyes.
He pulled the trigger, the laser shot out in a straight line, and with a “bang,” it hit the bullseye.
Thirty targets, not a single miss, all hitting the bullseye. Plus, during the scenario training earlier, He Qin had completed the combat in just half an hour.
The overall score reached 800 points, immediately bumping the third place on the leaderboard and propelling He Qin to third place in the gun training ground rankings.
This sudden appearance of a new name in the top three, accompanied by a broadcast announcement—”Zone A Comprehensive Leaderboard Third Place, Qin”—echoed throughout Zone A, causing a stir.
“Bai Di, check the room number for this Qin.”
“Yes, young master.”
In another room, a man savoring a drink in a high-stemmed glass narrowed his eyes with interest as he saw the new name on the leaderboard.
“Qin, huh? Interesting.” He downed the rest of his drink in one gulp and sat up from the lounge chair. The change in posture revealed the tanned skin hidden beneath his shirt.
The ranking at this training ground had long been static, with the top position held by the Empire’s hero, Major General Rhys. The second and third places were usually fixed.
With no one breaking his record for a long time, Mixiu had less incentive to visit the training ground. His main motivation was to surpass the first-place Zerg Major General.
But now, it seemed there was an interesting new competitor…
“Young master, this man is still in Room 1 of Zone A. However, I could only find his room number and name. It seems he didn’t fill out any other information.”
“Didn’t fill it out? How is that possible?” The flamboyant man was surprised by this response.
The information submission process at the K19 system training ground was notoriously strict. To make it onto the leaderboard, completing personal information was a prerequisite.
This ‘Qin’ managed to bypass the training ground’s rules?
“Let’s go check out this newcomer.” With a wave of his hand, he strode out with the confidence of a king.
He Qin sprawled on the floor in a large font, his cheeks flushed with the glow left by exercise. His body, not having undergone high-intensity training for a long time, couldn’t bear the weight of the not-so-light laser gun, and his shoulders were sore.
This kind of exhaustion, challenging his physical limits, was actually a state he enjoyed for its ability to clear his mind.
At moments like this, the pressures and responsibilities on his body could temporarily drift away, allowing He Qin a real chance to have a dialogue with his own soul.
However, just as he was reflecting on the issues encountered during simulated training, “thump, thump, thump,” three rhythmic knocks sounded at the door.
In response to the knocks, a man with a partially exposed chest and somewhat revealing attire walked in from outside, followed by a white-haired, deeply-wrinkled elderly man.
An elderly person?
Since arriving among the zergs, everyone He Qin encountered had been youthful and attractive, without a single elderly person. He even had the unsettling thought that perhaps elderly zergs were disposed of by the government when they reached old age.
The man approached cautiously, as if observing some exotic species, moving closer while keeping a vigilant eye on He Qin.
If He Qin wasn’t mistaken, the man’s pupils abruptly contracted, much like those of a large cat, upon seeing him?
“Hello, may I help you with something?” He Qin ignored the man directly and greeted the kindly elderly man with a slight smile.
The education He Qin received at the Earth orphanage was steeped in traditional Chinese Confucian thought, and the concept of respecting elders was deeply ingrained in his blood.
“Hello, this is Mr. Mixiu Qiao. He heard the broadcast outside and wanted to visit,” the elderly man appeared to be a gentleman of refinement, speaking politely with courteous words and actions.
“I’m Mixiu Qiao. You can call me Mixiu. I’m ranked second in the A Area’s rankings,” the man stepped forward, extending his hand. “Is this your first time at the K19 Training Ground?”
He Qin was surprised…
This gesture was clearly a handshake, one he was familiar with. He hadn’t expected such etiquette among the zergs.
He Qin extended his right hand, fingers together and thumb extended, shaking the man’s hand up and down a few times as one would on Earth when shaking hands with others.
“Yeah, first time here.”
“You’re third place, very impressive. Next time you come, you might just surpass first place.”
“Oh, no, I’m just here for fun, it was just a coincidence,” He Qin scratched his head sheepishly at the man’s sincere praise.
Once again overwhelmed by nervousness in the presence of a stranger, He Qin stood stiffly in the corner of the room, trying to minimize his presence as much as possible.
Here, achieving a good ranking will earn respect from soldiers of many planets. Many people in the training ground treat the competition in Area A as extremely important. Those who truly participate with a mindset of ‘playing’ generally do not achieve good results.
However, this mysterious young man in front of him seemed to talk about things so casually.
From the moment he entered, Mixiu’s strong beastly nature had been reminding him that this young man, who seemed nervous about their arrival, had a very pure heart. Mixiu hadn’t sensed such purity in anyone else for a long time.
This level of purity would make the beastmen uncontrollably fond of the young man.
Just like on Earth, there are people who have an affinity with animals; their temperament or aura attracts animals unconditionally. Such people often encounter many stray cats and dogs whenever they go out.
The Beastmen also have such situations. Bai Di was no exception, and neither was Mixiu.
However, Bai Di’s fondness for the young man stemmed from an affection for offspring, while Mixiu’s fondness was a physiological manifestation of wanting to mate.
This was a blend of fate and bloodlines that made it impossible for the Beastmen to resist the feeling.
On their planet, as the young lord of the Beastmen, Mixiu could easily have a young man if he wanted. But among the zergs, it was different.
Mixiu would always find a way to get what he wanted. He observed the young man’s physique; he didn’t seem like an Imperial Male zerg. After sniffing the air a few times, he realized there was no scent of a male.
At this point, he could basically confirm that the young man was probably a female zerg.
Since he was a female zerg, it was easy. Just offer some gold or silver treasures, and the group of money-minded male zergs would likely hand over the female zerg.
Mixiu, the young lord of the Beastmen, was lost in a pleasant self-fantasy. His hidden large tail even began to sway slightly.
But the young man named ‘Qin’ was now too cautious and seemed to want to stuff himself into the wall.
Mixiu was ready to take the initiative.
“Do you know where you didn’t do well just now?”
“Come closer, I’ll explain it to you.”
“When this target appeared, your gun movements were a bit stiff, which delayed the time.”
“Mm.”
“Also, this move wasn’t necessary at all; it easily exposes your position.”
“It seems so.”
“It looks like you’re not familiar enough with the structure of this laser gun.”
“Ah, how did you know?”
Whenever discussing combat, weapons, and the like, He Qin couldn’t help but relax unconsciously and immerse himself completely in the discussion.
Now, the two men had their heads close together, staring at the replay on the screen together. When they got excited, Mixiu even patted He Qin’s shoulder a few times.
Meanwhile, Rhys had a brief discussion with his former subordinate, Leonard, about official business. Because he was really worried about the male lord, Leonard repeatedly pointed out his distraction.
Leonard had never seen this emotional side of the Major General before and was frightened not to delay any longer, quickly explaining the current status of the mission without any unnecessary words.
The moment Leonard finished reporting, Rhys hurriedly left.
Rhys had been to this training ground more than once before and was very familiar with its layout. So, after leaving Leonard, based on the room location sent by the male lord on the light-brain, he quickly found Room No. 1 in Area A.
Originally, Rhys had been in a good mood throughout the journey, looking forward to seeing the male lord again soon. However, the moment Rhys opened that door, he saw Mixiu, the young lord of the Beastmen, with his arm draped over his male lord’s shoulders, in a disheveled state.
His mood plummeted…
Author’s Note:
Rhys: “male lord, do you like female zergs who smile a lot?”
He Qin: “What do you mean?”
Rhys: “I think you prefer personalities like Mixiu’s.”
He Qin: “Are you jealous?”
Rhys (cheeks turning red): “No.”
He Qin: “Personality doesn’t matter; I still like Rhys the most.”
Rhys: “male lord, you’ve been getting better at flirting lately.” (Heart pounding)
