Lunch Time With Her

Chapter 6: Chapter 6

Lunch break.

The usual scene unfolded like a well-rehearsed play—students racing to Anko's desk, each one eager to win the chance to eat with her.

It was almost ridiculous how serious they were about it. Some tried to act casual, as if they just happened to be nearby. Others were more direct, calling her name the second the bell rang.

And Anko?

She handled it like she always did. With an easygoing smile, a few playful remarks, and a natural way of making everyone feel included—even though only a few ever actually got to eat with her.

Today was no different.

At least, that's what everyone thought.

Anko stood up, stretching lazily. "Sorry, guys. Not today."

A few groans and confused looks followed.

"Eh? Why?"

"Come on, Anko, we got good seats today!"

She just grinned. "Next time, yeah?"

And before anyone could protest, she walked away.

Straight to Rin's desk.

Rin had been staring down at her lunchbox, hoping to make herself as invisible as possible. But when Anko's shadow fell over her desk, she stiffened.

She didn't need to look up to know who it was.

"Hey," Anko said casually, as if this were the most normal thing in the world. "Wanna eat with me?"

Rin blinked.

What?

She must've misheard. There was no way Anko was talking to her.

But then, before Rin could even attempt a response, Anko leaned down slightly and whispered, "Don't worry, not in the cafeteria where everyone's watching. I have a nice, quiet spot."

For a moment, Rin could only stare.

She wasn't used to this. Being acknowledged. Being invited.

Especially by someone like Anko.

Her first instinct was to refuse. It was safer that way.

But Anko was already tilting her head toward the door, her expression unreadable but expectant. Like she wasn't going to take no for an answer.

Rin hesitated.

Then, slowly, she stood up.

Anko's lips curled into a small, satisfied smile.

Without another word, she led the way.

And Rin… followed.
