Chapter 10: Chapter 10
"Bye, everyone!" On a small ship drifting away from the shore, two teens stood side by side. Both were twins, now 17 years old.
Shocked? Yeah, it was a huge 10-year time skip.
Of course, Lucy and Luffy were setting sail together, at least until Kong found his own crew. He'd made peace with one truth over the years. He could get lost on a straight road.
Oh, right. Lucy didn't go by Lucy anymore. After something that happened ten years ago, he'd changed his name. Now, he went by Kong. He'd originally wanted Monkey D. Wukong, but after some debate with his brothers, they all agreed, Kong just sounded cooler.
"Just watch, Sabo! I'm gonna be Pirate King!" Luffy roared, throwing his fists into the air, his straw hat tilting with the motion.
Bang!
A fist slammed into the top of his head, nearly knocking him off balance.
"You dumbass! This ship's too small for you to be screaming like that!" Kong snapped to which Luffy just laughed it off. Kong sighed, shaking his head as he plopped down at the front of the ship, gaze drifting toward the endless sea.
Their vessel was nothing fancy. Just a small boat—barely enough for the two of them, along with the food and water they'd stocked up for the journey.
"Well, we should get going. Just watch as we shock the world," Kong said, standing tall at the bow of the ship. The villagers of Foosha Village waved them off, smiles and teary eyes scattered among the crowd. It was a bittersweet farewell, but the excitement of adventure drowned out any sadness.
The small ship hadn't even made it far when the water ahead rippled. It was back. The same Sea King that took Shanks's hand 10 years ago. But unlike back then, Luffy was completely different.
"I got this!" Luffy grinned, cracking his knuckles. "Let me show you the technique I've been training for the past 10 years!"
Kong said nothing, letting Luffy have this moment. He stepped aside without a word. Luffy planted his feet and stretched his arm far back.
"Gomu Gomu no Pistol!" The Sea King surged forward, jaws wide to swallow the ship whole. But Luffy's fist struck first.
BAM!
His punch connected squarely with the beast's face, sending it flying backward with a thunderous crash. The impact kicked up a massive wave, water raining down in sheets.
Kong gritted his teeth, grabbing the side of the ship for dear life. His grip tightened, not just from the rough waters but from the real danger, he couldn't swim.
For most Devil Fruit users, water was bad. For Kong? It was 100 times worse.
"Those two brats have gotten so strong…" A huge fat woman with orange hair muttered, standing at the edge of the shore. A slight smile tugged at her lips, despite herself. She'd never imagined it back then, but somewhere along the way, those annoying little runts had wormed their way into her heart.
They weren't just brats anymore. They were her brats. Tears pricked the corners of her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away, scowling as she glanced around.
"I want at least ten crew members!" Luffy declared, a grin stretching ear to ear as the sea breeze whipped through his hair.
Kong shrugged, hands stuffed in his pockets. "Doesn't matter to me. Two, ten, a thousand… as long as they're strong in their own fields, I'm good."
"I'd need a right-hand man… someone to navigate the ship… a doctor would be useful," Kong muttered, listing off the essentials. "Being at sea too long without music would get boring, so a musician would be nice. I'd get hungry, so a cook is a must… and the ship might get damaged, so I'd need a shipwright too…"
He sighed, rubbing his temples. "Damn, that's a lot. Finding the perfect crew is gonna be a pain."
'Maybe I should just beat up some pirates and make them join me,' Kong thought half-seriously.
"Haha! Why don't you just join my crew?" Luffy grinned. "I'll even let you be my right-hand man!"
Kong didn't even bother responding. He sat back, closing his eyes to rest—then immediately opened one eye again, just to make sure Luffy didn't do anything stupid. And so, they sailed for a few hours, the ocean stretching endlessly around them. Until Luffy noticed something weird.
"Hey, Kong, look. I think we're trapped in a whirlpool," Luffy said casually, pointing toward the swirling waters.
Kong glanced up, taking a quick look. "Huh. Yeah, you're right. That was pretty careless of us," he nodded in agreement. Then, without a hint of urgency, they both went right back to whatever they were doing.
.
.
.
"ROW!" Kong screamed at the top of his lungs as both he and Luffy paddled furiously, trying to escape the whirlpool's pull.
But it was no use. The tiny ship was already caught in the current, spinning faster and faster toward disaster.
"We're not gonna make it!" Kong realized, eyes narrowing. "Quickly, get inside the barrel! And take your life jacket with you!"
Luffy, for once, didn't argue. He scrambled to a nearby barrel, flipping it over to dump out the water inside. Grabbing the life jacket Kong had forced him to bring, he jumped inside and sealed the lid shut.
Kong moved to do the same, but just as he reached for his own barrel, It slipped off the ship and into the water. His eyes widened in horror. Without thinking, he lunged forward, grabbing onto the barrel before it could sink. The moment his fingers touched the sea—his body weakened instantly.
A paralyzing, sickening numbness spread through him, every muscle losing strength at once. His grip loosened, but he refused to let go. But then…
CRASH!
The ship flipped completely over, sending everything—including Kong—tumbling into the whirlpool's deadly embrace.
Kong had to act fast. The moment his body touched the seawater, his strength drained instantly. It was like all the energy in his body had vanished. His Devil Fruit abilities were completely useless now, and worst of all, he couldn't swim. He would sink straight to the bottom.
But Kong planned for this. Desperately, he hugged onto the life jacket he had brought. It was designed to keep its wearer afloat, and there was no way he was ever stepping into the sea without one.
Especially not when he had to look after Luffy, who never planned ahead.
The jacket did its job, keeping him from sinking outright. But the whirlpool's pull was too strong—he was still being dragged under.
Water rushed around him, swirling in chaotic waves as he was pulled beneath the surface. His lungs burned, forcing him to hold his breath.
Sure, he had trained for this. Over the last ten years, he had pushed his limits, testing how long he could hold his breath underwater in case of emergencies. But training was one thing. Surviving a whirlpool while powerless? That was something else entirely.
By the way, in this world, the record for the longest time someone could hold their breath was five hours.
At his absolute best, Kong could shatter that record by 100 times. Thanks to his rigorous training and the 100x cheat, he had no reason to fear drowning. He could last underwater far longer than anyone else.
But that wasn't the problem. His real fear was falling into the water unprepared. Right now, the whirlpool was dragging him deeper, his body powerless to resist. His eyes darted around, scanning the chaotic waters.
'Where is Luffy?!' He twisted his head, desperately searching for Luffy's barrel amidst the swirling currents. But the violent water made it impossible to see anything clearly.
After a few moments, he was forced to give up—continuing to struggle would only waste more energy. Still, just before he stopped looking, his eyes caught something.
'…A ship?' It was faint, barely visible through the rushing water and foam. But the moment he blinked, it was gone.
