Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Light Flirtation
```
The comments were flying across the screen, almost laughably hysterical.
"God's possessive desire, Xu Qingyan seriously has some major issues! I'm done, damn it, I'm wheezing with laughter!"
"Our country has a complete set of criminal laws, which can cure Xu Qingyan's major illness."
"Mom asked me why I'm kneeling while watching the live stream, all I can say is damn impressive. Thanks to Xu Qingyan for curing my anxiety, the crazier people get, the happier they are."
Bai Jinze's expression grew even uglier. He took several deep breaths before he managed to control his emotions.
The current situation put him in a bind. Making a scene in front of the camera would do him no good, and would only make him seem like he had a rage disorder.
He had no choice but to accept it.
Even though he could see that Song Enya's face was full of embarrassment, he had to do it. After calming down, he even took the initiative to help Xu Qingyan clean up.
Let's be real, the manners of the young idol in front of the camera were indeed impressive.
"Thank you," Xu Qingyan said sincerely, "Thank you all, and I hope our arrival hasn't disturbed your date. Please, continue."
"No problem," Song Enya replied with a smile.
She also felt somewhat frustrated internally. She had initially planned to covertly discuss with Bai Jinze the possibility of voting Pei Muchan off the show the day after tomorrow.
Now it seemed like there was no chance for that. They couldn't possibly discuss her being a gold-digger right in front of others, could they? Have a loud secret conversation?
The rooftop.
The tables of the two pairs of male and female guests were four meters apart—neither too far nor too close. You could hear slurping of soup from that distance, but it was far enough to throw a Frisbee.
Bai Jinze also felt uncomfortable after sitting down. No matter how he thought about it, it just felt awkward.
He had originally wanted to subtly discuss with Song Enya how they could vote off Xu Qingyan, whom he deemed a lunatic, in the upcoming vote.
Now that was off the table, he had to change the subject.
Xu Qingyan's table could be described as a gathering of talents, and it was unclear how many advertising endorsements the production crew had taken on.
Just to showcase the beverages and drinks produced by their sponsors, the props team even set up a separate table for them, complete with careful lighting.
On the main table, a variety of food ingredients were neatly placed—none of the anticipated small green dragon crabs or seafood platter. There was just a table full of barbecued meat, one condiment plate, and a dish of spicy cabbage.
The production crew hadn't prepared in advance, but they sure knew how to make do; they managed to put together a Western feast in a coastal city.
Seeing this, Xu Qingyan was a bit dumbfounded.
It wasn't that the Western feast wasn't delicious, but after eating it once, you definitely won't want to have it a second time soon. As for when you might crave it again, that's hard to say; perhaps you'd feel like it when you're feeling a bit crazy.
This dish truly depended on the freshness of the ingredients. You'd just wrap up a leafy green and stuff it in your mouth, enjoying the novelty. Everything else was fine, but it was too much hassle to grill and eat at the same time.
The evening breeze was gently blowing, bringing a hint of coolness.
"What do you want to eat? I'll make it for you."
Pei Muchan asked, extending her arm around to the back of her head, loosening the slack low ponytail she had. She then took the red hair tie from her mouth and held it between her teeth, swiftly tying her hair up at the back with her other hand.
Her enviable thick hair was gathered into a high ponytail with the pinch of her fingers, and she then took the hair tie from her mouth to secure it.
The whole process was pleasing to the eye; Xu Qingyan stared at her blankly, as enraptured as a child watching a magical girl transform on television, not blinking once.
```
"What are you daydreaming about?" Pei Muchan was amused.
"Nothing, just thought I saw a beauty because my eyes were playing tricks on me," Xu Qingyan said, then pointed at the pork belly and added, "I want to eat this."
"What do you mean by that? Are you saying I'm ugly?" Pei Muchan huffed, reluctantly picking up a piece of pork belly and placing it on the grill, letting the fat sizzle and cook.
"Not really, it's just that I'm a bit face blind; I can't really tell who's good-looking and who's not," Xu Qingyan said, resting his hand on the table, smiling at her.
"Really?" Pei Muchan reached for the oil container, but accidentally brushed against his hand.
Realizing that he had already grabbed the oil container, she tilted her wrist slowly. Her movements seemed distracted yet precisely poured the oil on the pork belly.
"Yeah, after that I went to see a doctor. Everyone thought I was done for, but the doctor told me I was stable. From now on, don't look at faces; just look for black silk stockings!"
Snorting, Pei Muchan gave him a glance and said,
"Smooth talker."
"Really, I still have the medical records. Add me and I'll send them to you," Xu Qingyan offered, setting down the oil container and pulling up his QR code with one hand.
Looking at the QR code on the table, Pei Muchan suddenly remembered that he had tried to add her the day before. She had just made a joke at the time, and then he had walked away.
Thinking about it now, she felt somewhat frustrated; she hadn't faced as much rejection in one year as she had from him in a single day.
Taking heed from last time's lesson, Pei Muchan didn't want to repeat the mistake, especially with the camera pointed right at her. Being snubbed by him again would be truly embarrassing.
Meanwhile, the audience, clueless about what was really going on, watched in disbelief as Pei Muchan took out her phone and willingly added his WeChat, looking completely stunned.
"Mom, I'm gonna change the channel; this isn't a romance show, this is sci-fi!"
"My god, what the hell is Pei doing! What the hell is she doing! (venue father in anguish), Director, there's trickery afoot!"
"Damn, I can't take it anymore, what kind of script is this!"
"Crying to death, my classmate can talk like Xu Dog, playing it so cool, and I just can't learn how to do that!"
"Problem, problem, Xu Dog actually has some skills; I'm gonna be brainwashed by him!"
"Ahhh!!! I've been single for twenty years straight from the womb, someone save me! I can't go on licking, my lineage is at stake, I can't be without a woman!"
"Bad luck, where did this bootlicker come from, take him out and behead him!"
Amidst the flying bullet comments, the technical team was rushing to add starry-eyed special effects for the two of them: shy narrations and pink bubble filters were all thrown in.
In person, Xu Qingyan was anything but heart-fluttered, with no excitement inside; for him, it was just a simple process of adding WeChat.
He didn't plan on adding her at first, since the production team would arrange for everyone to exchange contact information by the end of the day at the latest.
But after a second thought, given that he had spent the day with Pei Muchan, and their choice to be together was somewhat mutual, it seemed inappropriate to wait for the production team's scheduled time to exchange details.
"Added you," she said, looking up at him for just a moment as she spoke.
The island night was windy and the air seemed hot and heavy, the breeze gently flapping his sleeve cuff. Xu Qingyan was like a passionate gray cloud, hidden in the shadows, silent and still.
It was only when you got close that you could detect the vibrant vitality beneath his exterior, an incredible resilience hidden in his bones.
Pei Muchan had always liked people like this because she hoped that when she was teetering on the brink of collapse, someone would take her hand and tell her.
Life is always bubbling with energy, and the future is full of beautiful vistas.
