Lord of the Rings: Warriors

Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Forward

"Indeed, there's a conspiracy after all..." Ganxia muttered as he looked at the orc horde surging both behind and ahead of them.

"By the Dragon God! We just killed so many orcs, and yet they're still coming?" Omsk's eyes widened in disbelief.

"Give it up, they're like rats, they can crawl out of any crevice," Rynar said helplessly, watching the incoming orcs.

"Damned! Knights, prepare!" Omsk spurred his horse and galloped to the front of the formation.

"Your Highness! Those vermin behind are yours to deal with! Lead the Royal Guards and the Elven Rangers to hold the line! We'll be back!"

Omsk glanced at the surging orcs on both sides, his voice full of regret. The underpowered Zaltarion army was now struggling to keep up with the situation.

"Protect the King!" After giving his orders, Omsk raised his spear and charged ahead.

"Form up! Shield wall!" The Royal Guards quickly demonstrated the proper formation of a turtle-like infantry stance.

The massive tower shields' tips were driven deep into the ground, and the shields pressed tightly together to form a barricade that blocked the streets.

Rynar was pulled off his horse by the Elven Rangers. Now, in the midst of the crowd, Rynar looked conspicuous—such a tall target was practically a living bullseye.

"Form up and hold the line! Watch both sides!" The Royal Guards vigilantly scanned their surroundings, holding their spears at an angle to the sky.

"My gods! They're climbing over the walls!" One of the Royal Guards suddenly cried out.

Indeed, more and more orcs were scaling the buildings on both sides and leaping down to attack Rynar and his group.

"Kill them!"

The Elven Rangers roared as they drew their Rune Blades, slashing downward at the orcs.

The orcs, stunned by these fierce ranged warriors, had expected a massacre upon charging into the group of lightly-armored humans, but the massacre was on them instead...

The sharp Rune Blades swiftly severed the orcs' heads, sending purple-black blood spraying high into the air.

The headless bodies were propelled forward by momentum before collapsing to the ground, twitching once before going cold.

"Kill them all! Don't let them breach our inner line!" Rynar said urgently.

While the Elven Rangers were excellent in close combat, their light armor made them vulnerable to the orcs' heavy weaponry.

Though the dragonhide armor could resist blows, it wasn't as strong as dragon scale, and its resistance to the orcs' heavy clubs and axes was limited.

"Close ranks! Tighten up the formation!" The Royal Guards, while holding back the attacking orcs, didn't forget to slowly retreat.

Soon, the shield walls on both sides of the Royal Guards had merged, closing off the last opening.

"Quickly clear the enemies inside! Prepare to face the new wave!" Rynar glanced at the few unlucky orcs trapped in their formation.

"Bang! Slish!" The first sound was that of a Rune Blade cutting through an orc's weapon, and the second was the sound of flesh being sliced.

The remaining orcs were swiftly dismembered by the Elven Rangers' rapid strikes.

"Elven Rangers! Watch the flanks! The enemy can climb the walls and appear on either side at any moment! Shoot them before they land! Don't give them any chances!" Rynar barked.

While the Royal Guards and the Elven Rangers had formed an impenetrable circle, in this narrow terrain, the enemy could drop down from above and attack their flanks.

"Don't panic! Maintain the formation! Hold the line! They're just beasts with weapons! You are the finest infantry of Zaltarion! Don't fear them! Don't retreat!

Let their blood and heads build your fame!" Rynar, holding his Dragon Slayer sword, moved through the ranks, shouting encouragement.

He knew that once their morale crumbled, they would be at risk of collapsing under the pressure.

"They must have tunnels! Damn it! These rats are impossible to guard against!" Rynar cursed, his sword piercing through an orc's chest.

He couldn't understand why these tall, burly orcs loved digging tunnels.

"They love digging, huh? Well, I'll bury you all underground today!" Rynar roared.

The scene was so overwhelming that even Rynar, who had been through the Battle of Lonely Mountain, felt a sense of despair.

The streets before and behind them were packed with orcs, while the buildings on both sides were covered in orcs.

The Elven Rangers had been shooting arrows quickly enough, but they still couldn't stop the orcs from leaping down and attacking them from above.

So, they stopped aiming and simply shot arrows randomly, hoping to hit something.

"Our space is being compressed!" The Royal Guards groaned as they felt the pressure from all directions.

Even the tower shields embedded in the ground were being pushed sideways! The Royal Guards could now just extend their spears, as the orcs would charge right into them.

very spear was weighted down with several orc bodies, and pulling them out was becoming increasingly difficult.

"Prepare for a shield charge! They're about to breach!"

One of the Royal Guards shouted in fury.

At the back of the orc horde, some orcs had already begun climbing over the bodies of their comrades to breach the circle, but an Elven Ranger quickly dispatched one with a swift blade.

"Shield charge!" The Royal Guards bellowed. Their battle energy exploded from their bodies, knocking the orcs in front of them off their feet.

The shockwave tore through their flesh and shattered their weapons, leaving a three-meter-wide clearing around the entire circle.

"Close ranks! Be ready for a counterattack! Watch your feet! Don't trip on the bodies!" Following Rynar's command, the entire circle shrank back again.

The orcs quickly surrounded them once more, as though nothing had happened.

"Prepare for a thrust!" Rynar was watching these frenzied orcs, planning to try something new.

"Thrust!" Rynar ordered. The Royal Guards pushed their spears forward with their battle energy, and the condensed energy exploded, creating a 10-meter-long bloodbath in front of Rynar.

"The effect is outstanding!" Rynar marveled.

"Your Highness, we need to move! This kind of fight is draining us too quickly!"

The Royal Guards called out to Rynar. The intense combat was rapidly exhausting their stamina, and soon, they would be unable to even lift their shields.

"Forward! Rear guard, keep up! Front, advance!" Rynar shouted as he gestured toward the direction where the Holy Radiant Knights and Omsk had disappeared.

No matter what, he couldn't leave the Holy Radiant Knights behind. With Omsk there, even if they were attacked by three Ringwraiths at once, they could still retreat.

Rynar decided to lead his forces forward. To break through the orcs at the back, they needed the terrifying charge of the Knights.

If Rynar tried to cut through them with just infantry, they would be exhausted. The sheer numbers of orcs would be enough to make the 250 soldiers he led cry.

At this moment, Rynar, King of Zaltarion, understood what it meant when a quantitative change leads to a qualitative one.

"Forward! Attack!" Rynar bellowed, preparing himself for the possibility of losing high-level warriors. This battle was going to be harder than any he had faced before.
