Chapter 517: He is everywhere
The Left Hand of God? Isn't that the title of the Dark Angel Sasrir? Tolzna, just because you were once part of the Rose of Redemption doesn't mean you can blatantly engage in bootlegging...
Though to be fair, even the Creator of Silver City borrowed those titles from elsewhere.
Judging from the title "Left Hand of God" and Miss Reinette's description of her brother, Dannet's initial role for the Chained God might have been similar to that of the Dark Angel for the Creator of Silver City — a contingency plan.
This suggests that the Chained God was prepared for the Mother Tree of Desire's invasion.
Hmm, based on Dannet's transformation, I can think of three possibilities.
First, the Chained God's arrangement activated after being corrupted, making Dannet the contingency. But this seems unlikely... Miss Reinette did say she thought he was a god but was mistaken.
Second, the Mother Tree of Desire might have discovered Dannet and corrupted him, leading to a new personality. But if that were the case, why would he immediately flee, running all the way to the Knowledge God's domain?
Third, which builds upon the second theory, is that he was indeed discovered by the Mother Tree of Desire, who sent someone to deal with him. However, after his "death," an unknown entity took over his body — perhaps a transmigrator!
After all, the changes he brought to Lenburg — such as modern university systems and the impact factor system for journals — have a distinctly transmigrator flavor.
I had my suspicions before, but reading these accounts has made me even more convinced. Dannet likely "died," only to have a transmigrator inhabit his body afterward!
But if he died centuries ago, how did he connect with the Emperor? Could it be that the Emperor found his relics somewhere and decided to help fulfill a wish?
It's possible... Maybe he even read the "original work" and left letters in his relics for the Emperor, including methods to separate "pollution" and warnings about the dangers of lunar exploration.
However, after investigating, the Emperor may have found that Dannet had dealings with the Knowledge God and was scheming something, thus growing suspicious and ignoring the warnings. This aligns with the footage the Emperor left in the sealed area.
Thinking along these lines, Ebner flipped to the last few pages of the material. He discovered that Dannet had been active on the Northern Continent for over two centuries, from the birth of a "divine abomination" more than 920 years ago to the 20-Year War over 700 years ago. Although not famous, he'd achieved quite a bit during that time.
It was also apparent that Miss Reinette still had lingering concerns for her "brother"; otherwise, she wouldn't have gathered such detailed information.
Of course, as an angel of the Temperance Faction, she might have other motives for doing this.
"The 20-Year War..." Seeing this time point, a flash of inspiration struck Ebner.
He quickly recalled that the Conva Baron, who had long coveted the Sefirah Castle, received his title during that war over 700 years ago!
It's highly likely that this suspected transmigrator, Dannet, had connections with Baron Conva. After all, the baron's diary was encrypted using the Book of the Dead, and the elixirs created by Dannet were similar to those recorded in that book.
"Mr. Azik once mentioned that Baron Conva's peculiar state was the result of some kind of experiment.
"Could it be... that the one conducting experiments on him was Dannet, backed by the Knowledge God?
"And was the experiment's purpose... to separate 'pollution'?!
"Using a simulation of the Three-Headed Cathedral and Dream Weaver's core abilities, combined with the chaos sea Baron Conva encountered beneath that ancient castle... to develop a secret technique for separating pollution?"
"Probably not enough... the God of Knowledge and Wisdom and Dannet must have employed other methods or techniques that I'm unaware of...
"Thinking back now, the Roselle I encountered in the Dream Labyrinth Tower—his condition was quite similar to that of Baron Conva. Both retained only a youthful state, endlessly repeating a segment of their lives.
"Hmm, similar but fundamentally different. Perhaps Roselle refined the method on his own.
"But as Roselle mentioned in his message, this method couldn't completely rid one of pollution... so Baron Conva's obsession with Sefirah Castle was likely due to Dannet, who had read the original work, telling him about it, right? After all, it's indeed the only reliable way to resolve pollution... maybe that was compensation for using him as an experiment subject?"
After pondering for a while, Ebner gradually pieced things together, though several questions remained unanswered.
For instance, what was Dannet's grand objective in going through all this trouble?
What role did the Death Consul, who slumbered in Calderon City, play in all of this? Despite never appearing directly in these events, his influence seemed to be everywhere.
Baron Conva was his descendant, Dannet's distillation techniques likely originated from his book, Roselle had entered his tomb, and even the mysterious queen's nurturing of Jian was likely due to him.
Ebner refused to believe it was all a coincidence!
However, with insufficient information to complete the puzzle, he could only analyze up to this point. Reluctantly, he turned his attention toward the discussion between "Judgment" and "Temperance."
Meanwhile, seated at the head of the table, Klein had finished reading Dannet's records. Unlike Ebner, he didn't have so many questions. Only two words echoed in his mind: "Liu Bo!"
He's everywhere! So modern university systems were his "contribution"? I thought it was Roselle...
Haha, is this some kind of "transmigrator aggregation effect"? I always seem to come across information about him.
Klein chuckled self-deprecatingly and focused on the situation described by Miss Judgment, who had finished narrating her predicament. The three formally began their discussion.
Miss Temperance rested her left palm on her right elbow, supporting her chin with her right hand. Though expressionless, it was clear she was contemplating seriously.
After a dozen seconds, she offered a suggestion: "The Mirror World is a reflection of reality. Even if sealed and modified, it won't change too drastically."
What does that mean? Xio blinked, not quite grasping the point, and instinctively looked toward Ebner.
Noticing her reaction, Sharon's azure eyes shifted subtly as if something had come to mind.
