Chapter 94: [Seed of Immunity]
'Why are there only 18 people? That shouldn't be the case.'
'Earlier, I counted them to be 30 individuals, 8 had just departed the base, so there should be 22 people left.'
'There are 4 people missing, Where are they?'
'They obviously can't leave the base without my knowledge, nor can they hide from my perception...'
'So, are they possibly dead?'
Thinking of this, Lorien immediately began utilizing his power to look for clues, and in doing so, it didn't take long for him to find their dead bodies.
And after observing the scene, Lorien quickly came to a conclusion.
'So it is indeed a suicide, and it's a mass suicide at that...'
'No, someone probably jumped from the wall causing others to get influenced and follow him...'
Looking silently at the corpses in front of him, Lorien didn't look that surprised.
'After my previous speech, some people have lost hope which is something to be expected.'
Shaking his head, Lorien didn't think much of it anymore as he didn't really care much about those people, after all, he didn't have any true relationship with them.
The only reason he went through the effort to find them is that he didn't notice their disappearance when it happened.
Which is actualy caused by the combined factors of him being very concentrated on practicing his energy manipulation, and him not actually paying much attention to the survivors, otherwise, that wouldn't be the case as he would have been able to immediately notice the moment someone died or is in danger.
*Sigh*
Giving those corpses one last glance, Lorien then erased them using his power which earned him a very small amount of [Luck] that he of course happily took.
Now, with nothing more to do in that area, Lorien began walking away from the scene, slowly making his way back to the villa.
But just after taking a couple of steps, he suddenly turned his head toward the apartment that housed the survivors as a thoughtful look appeared his face.
This small accident reminded him of something he had previously overlooked when making the base.
Actually, to be more precise they are actually 2 things, the first is the lack of oversight, management, and organization; and the second is the combat force.
For such a base to function efficiently, some people need to be in charge, supervising the survivors, setting rules, resolving conflicts, and keeping the morale up.
And it is here where the combat force comes in handy as they work as both protectors from outside interference and threats be it humans or zombies and act as law enforcers.
Without all of this, things can quickly get rowdy; A lot of humans living together in a closed space for a long time without a set of rules and no management is a very bad idea, and as the number of survivors increases, this issue will become more and more apparent.
Of course, this issue is completely irrelevant for this base as Lorien and Saigai are living inside.
With them, there, chaos between survivors won't be possible as they can suppress any riots, and zombies or any other external danger also won't be much of a danger; But all of this only depends on the two of them, without them, disorder will quickly ensue.
And it is here where the importance of those two things becomes apparent as they can prevent or at least control such issues if they were to arise.
So to keep this base functional and to give it the possibility of improvement, those 'departments' need to be created as quickly as possible.
After all, neither he nor Saigai are suitable for doing such managerial roles for a long time as it is very time-intensive, boring, and not to mention a waste of time.
It's better to just throw all of the work to their subordinates and just sit back and relax, why do all the work when somebody can do it for you?
Not to mention that, with their strength, the risk of losing control by delegating power is none existent, in the face of absolute strength, all tactics and schemes are useless.
'Management and Combat...'
Thinking of those two characteristics, Lorien couldn't help but turn his head toward the direction that Saya left in with her team.
'Her parents are very talented at handling things, I'll see if I can bring them over, after all, their end in the original timeline didn't look good...'
'As for the combat force...'
Scanning the place, Lorien instantly locked into Saeko who was sitting on the balcony with Shizuka next to her.
'She would be perfect for this role! She is also quite talented in swordsmanship.'
'...Should I can her over now?'
Thinking about it for a moment, Lorien then ultimately decided not to.
'I'll talk to her tomorrow, too many things happened today, moreover, I have something more important to deal with!'
Deciding on this, Lorien turned away and started walking in another direction; Instead of walking back to the villa, he started walking toward the base gates.
'Almost forgot about the zombie I left there, I was too focused on dealing with the mutation that appeared in my body...'
'It's about time I deal with this virus, leaving it for later would be a hidden danger so I better get it over with as quickly as possible, by then, I can confidently go out and deal with external things.'
Waving his hand, Lorien caused the transparent box made of bulletproof glass to float toward him.
Looking at the 'female' zombie inside that kept roaring unceasingly, he couldn't help but feel disgusted.
'Tsk, I need to deal with it quickly, or else I won't have the appetite to eat dinner.'
Throwing all the messy thoughts aside, Lorien quickly made his way back to the house.
"I am back!"
"Did you fini- Hey! Why did you bring this thing home?"
"I am going to study the virus."
"Didn't you say that the humans in this world made a vaccine but the zombies just mutated causing it to turn ineffective? Won't you just be working for nothing?'
"That's indeed the case, but I won't just be making a typical vaccine! I am going to create an ability that can protect us from all harmful bacteria, viruses, infections, and toxins, It'll be based on this zombie virus but it'll have the ability to evolve further so there won't be the risk of it becoming useless!"
"Is that even possible?"
"Yes, It'll just take some time but it's doable, it's similar to how I took the demon blood and got immortality from it! So in reality it'll be an 'Ability Seed' that can grow with time."
"That's..."
"Hahaha, Genius right? This will be especially useful for us travel to different worlds, god knows what sort of weird viruses and infections could be out there, so it's better to be safe!"
Explaining his purpose, Lorien didn't linger there any longer as he quickly ran out to the backyard with the zombie still floating behind him.
Eager to start, he didn't hesitate for a moment as he sat down and quickly started his work.
'It shouldn't take me that long, after all, my current energy levels aren't even close to the level it was when I made the [Seed of Immortality]...'
'By the way, What should I call this new 'Seed' I am about to create'
'I am thinking...[Seed of Immunity], That should be a good name for it...'
'Okay, Okay, Let's stop wasting time, Let's work!'
