Lord of Deception

Chapter 20: Chapter 20 – The Fall of Resistance

The moon hung high over Solaris, its pale glow casting silver reflections across the royal gardens. The scent of jasmine and moon lilies filled the air, their fragrance almost suffocating in the silence of the night.

Elyndra stood alone beneath the towering crystal willows, her arms wrapped around herself. But it wasn't the cold that made her tremble—it was the weight of the decision she had made only hours ago.

Auron's voice still echoed in her mind.

"Then choose me."

Her fingers dug into the fabric of her dress. She had seen the pain in his eyes, the raw desperation in his voice. Auron had always been strong, unshakable, a beacon of light in the storm. But tonight—tonight, he had looked broken.

And when the moment came…

When he had reached for her…

When he had begged her to stay by his side…

She had let him go.

She hadn't spoken. She hadn't stopped him. She hadn't run after him.

Because deep down, she already knew.

Her heart no longer belonged to him.

A bitter wind rustled the leaves, and with it came a presence—one she recognized instantly.

Kael.

The air shifted. Shadows stretched unnaturally under the moonlight. A warmth—dark, commanding, intoxicating—pressed against her senses before she even saw him.

Then, he spoke.

"You're trembling, Elyndra."

His voice was smooth, rich with quiet amusement. A voice that had haunted her thoughts for far too long.

She didn't turn to face him. She couldn't.

"I shouldn't be here," she whispered.

"And yet…" His footsteps were soundless, yet she felt him moving closer. "Here you are."

Her breath caught.

It was a challenge, one laced with certainty. Kael had known she would come. He had known she would not run.

Because he already owned her.

The Final Thread of Resistance

The space between them vanished.

Kael reached out, his fingers grazing the bare skin of her shoulder. She shivered. Not from fear—but from something far more dangerous.

"You let him go," he murmured. It was not a question.

She swallowed hard. "He was hurting."

Kael exhaled a soft chuckle, dark and knowing. "And yet, you didn't follow him."

Elyndra's fingers trembled at her sides. The words were knives, cutting through the last fragile strands of guilt binding her to the past.

Kael was right.

She hadn't followed Auron.

She hadn't tried to fix things.

She had come here instead.

Kael stepped closer, until she could feel the warmth of his body behind her. His breath was against her neck, teasing, as if daring her to turn—to face the truth she had been denying.

"Say it, Elyndra," he whispered.

She closed her eyes, heart hammering. "Say what?"

"Say that you belong to me."

Her pulse stuttered.

She knew if she said those words, there would be no going back.

No more pretending. No more fighting.

The Elyndra who had once stood beside Auron—the girl who had sworn to be his light, his anchor—would cease to exist.

Kael's hand trailed to her throat, tilting her chin up ever so slightly. Not forceful, but insistent. A reminder of his control, his power over her.

"Say it."

A war raged inside her. Duty battled desire, guilt clashed with longing.

But in the end, the truth had already been decided.

She exhaled a shaky breath.

"I belong to you."

Kael's lips curled into a satisfied smirk. His hand slid to her waist, pulling her flush against him as he whispered against her ear—

"I know."

And in that moment, Elyndra knew…

She was his. Completely, irreversibly his.

A Hero's Descent into Darkness

Miles away, in the depths of the royal archives, Auron sat in silence.

His hands rested on the open pages of a forbidden tome, his fingers trembling, nails digging into the brittle parchment. His golden hair fell messily over his face, but he made no effort to move it away. His eyes—once filled with light and warmth—were hollow, bloodshot, filled with shadows.

The words before him were dangerous. Ancient. Forbidden.

"To take back what was lost, one must break the chains of fate. Death shall be the key."

Auron's grip tightened.

He had never once considered this path. Not in all the years he had trained to be the hero, the guardian of the kingdom, the protector of those he loved.

But now…

Now, he had lost everything.

Elyndra had chosen Kael.

She had abandoned him.

And if he couldn't save her…

Then he would burn the world to take her back.

To be continued.....
