Chapter 7: Racoon City? (Edited)
Therefore, John Young found this old newspaper useful because it contained information that intrigued him. Was it celebrity gossip? No, it wasn't. Was it a portrait of a female model? No, it wasn't.
The real answer lay in a few simple words: "Raccoon City Journal." Yes, that's the name of the newspaper.
This obviously meant there was a great chance he was currently in "Raccoon City."
"How did this end up being about Raccoon City? What about the World of Ashes? Why has it suddenly turned into Resident Evil?"
John was genuinely surprised. The main point of his surprise was the realization that he might encounter monsters such as Lickers and Tyrants. While he could effortlessly mow down ordinary zombies, fighting a Tyrant was a different matter.
Thinking about the possibility of being killed by a Tyrant wielding a heavy machine gun, flamethrower, or rocket launcher from a distance, John's mood darkened.
"Forget it; if it comes to that, I'll deal with it. Although the Tyrant is strong, it is slow. So, if I can't beat it, I should still be able to run away," John regretted not having a spirit weapon with him while sleeping. If he had an attack-type spirit weapon, he might not have to worry about being unable to defeat it.
"Let's continue searching for things that can be used as weapons." After checking under the bed, the bedside table, and the wardrobe but finding nothing, John walked to the kitchen, which was the farthest place from the dilapidated wooden bed, next to the anti-theft door.
Fortunately, the room's original owner seemed to have had the habit of cooking. Thus, John found a complete set of Western-style kitchen knives, including seven small knives that looked like fruit knives, though he couldn't distinguish their specific functions, and a relatively larger and heavier bone cleaver.
The bone-chopping knife was about thirty or forty centimeters long, while the other seven small knives ranged from a few centimeters to a dozen centimeters in length.
"As expected, I can only find a kitchen knife. It's common to use a kitchen knife to slash zombies, but most of the time, the user ends up being counterattacked." John recalled stories of housewives using kitchen knives, who were bitten in the neck by zombies.
In addition to the kitchen knives, John found a set of keys on the table next to the kitchen. These should be the house keys. They would be very useful, as John definitely needed to come back later.
To prevent monsters like zombies from breaking into this place when John left, he needed to lock the room door with the key.
Next, he checked the cabinet attached to the kitchen. In the lower cabinet, John found some bags of edible salt and other seasonings, as well as half a box of unexpired mineral water, which looked like seven or eight bottles.
After rummaging through the lower cabinet, John went to the upper cabinet and found some canned beans, pork, and luncheon meat.
"Finding drinking water and food in the kitchen is really good news. At least it means I won't die in this world from basic needs such as hunger and lack of water."
Although these items might have expired, John felt that eating some expired food wouldn't be a big problem given the constitution of the awakened.
After searching the entire room, John stood by a window facing the street. From here, he could observe the outside world, that is, the situation on the street. There were seven or eight abandoned cars parked, most of which were not obviously damaged, with only the cabs and a few personal vehicles covered in dark red blood.
As for zombies? He didn't see any. Not a single one. There wasn't even a corpse on the ground.
"What about Raccoon City? Why are there no zombies on the street? When I played the game, there were zombies everywhere." John wanted to learn more about this place by exploring the surroundings. But now, he was completely confused about the situation. It was too messy, and he could only take one step at a time.
"Since I've searched the entire room, it's time to make a choice. I'll choose the third option and wait a while." After the time pause ended, John immediately returned to the old dilapidated wooden bed.
Because he hadn't found suitable shoes in the room earlier, John had to keep walking barefoot on the dusty ground, which had turned the soles of his feet black.
If possible, John felt that his secondary task should be to find himself a pair of shoes. It was really awkward to walk without shoes.
You might ask, what is the priority? Of course, it's hunting monsters in the World of Ashes! Strengthening himself was always John's top priority.
As for looking for weapons, to be honest, as an awakened, for a monster like a zombie, having a weapon didn't make much difference; it only slightly affected his speed of mowing them down.
John had already figured out what to do next during the time pause. First, he went to the closet and took a shoulder bag. He could use it to carry a lot of things. Then John went to the kitchen again and inserted a steel knife holder with seven small knives and a bone-chopping knife directly into the shoulder bag.
That's right, he stuffed the entire knife holder in because John felt those small knives might be useful as throwing knives. Although it was a bit cumbersome to install the entire knife holder directly, it wasn't a big problem with the power of the awakened.
After installing the knife holder, John had nothing else to prepare. After all, the opponent was just a goblin, and the options indicated that the opponent's combat power was extremely low. So, what was there to be afraid of? The options never lied to him; he could definitely beat this goblin.
However, some caution was still necessary. John first observed through the peephole of the security door to see if there were any monsters outside. After confirming that there were no monsters, he gently opened the security door to further observe the situation.
