Chapter 6 - Cat Girl Enters The Role!
After the cat girl fell asleep, Richard took out his phone, logged into the online marketplace, and bought a batch of goods.
The goods had to be purchased in batches to make the shipping cost-effective.
He also bought several sets of maid outfits for the cat girl.
After making the purchases, there was no time left for browsing the internet today.
Closing the door of the small castle, Richard went to the town and found the sheriff.
The sheriff in the town was still the one appointed by Ted before, and he was already quite old.
In addition to the sheriff, there were also several guards similar to security guards, maintaining the security of the territory.
These people used to be paid by Ted, but now it was Richard who paid them.
Richard planned to expand the military force of the town.
However, when he found the sheriff and several guards, he realized that while the sheriff was okay, the guards were all old men in their fifties or sixties, with hardly any combat capability.
“Lord, when Lord Ted was here, he was reluctant to pay much. It was good enough if we could recruit them for fifty copper coins a month,” the sheriff said.
Curiously, Richard asked, “I heard there are quite a few bandits around here. Wasn’t Ted afraid of the territory being raided?”
The sheriff replied, “With so many people in the town, bandits generally don’t come here. Lord Ted’s castle was robbed more than ten years ago, and he hadn’t recovered since then. He couldn’t afford to pay wages anymore, and when the territory became poor, there were fewer bandits coming.”
Richard said, “Dismiss them all and hire ten strong and reliable men. Pay each of them three hundred copper coins a month, but only recruit those who have lived here for generations.”
The sheriff hesitated for a moment and said, “Lord, the current guards have been working for the territory for so long…”
Richard interrupted him, “Assign them some easy tasks in a few days. The territory cannot afford to support freeloaders, but as long as they are willing to work, they will definitely live better than before.”
The sheriff said, “Alright, Lord, I’ll take care of it.”
This sheriff seemed quite reliable, otherwise Richard would have fired him too.
After all, the security of the territory was the top priority.
But people couldn’t be recruited randomly; they had to be reliable.
_
Richard then found two middle-aged women in their forties in the town and paid them a hundred and fifty copper coins each month. They were responsible for cleaning the castle and washing clothes.
After handling these matters, Richard planned some developments in the territory.
Then he went to check on the progress of land cultivation.
The wasteland had been plowed, and at Richard’s request, a dozen people were digging a ditch to slightly adjust the course of a small river, making it easier for irrigation.
“We can start planting tomorrow,” Richard thought.
After checking, he returned to the small castle, and the cat girl was still asleep.
Richard put away the second batch of goods.
The transportation time for goods purchased online was usually about three days, sometimes faster, sometimes slower.
These goods would be temporarily stored in the system space, and Richard needed to take them out within a day or transfer them to his own storage space.
This batch of goods mainly consisted of agricultural tools, as well as a large number of custom-made clothes ordered by Richard from a local store, consistent with the style of this world.
These clothes wouldn’t be given away for free.
Richard still planned to use them to pay wages.
_
After storing the second batch of goods, the sky gradually darkened.
Richard went to another bedroom and fell asleep there.
Early the next morning, shortly after Richard woke up, he heard movement in the castle.
After getting dressed and going out, he found the cat girl sweeping the room with a broom.
Seeing Richard coming out, the cat girl whispered, “Master, good morning!”
She had already immersed herself in the role so quickly?
Richard walked over and asked, “What’s your name?”
The cat girl replied, “Master, my name is Miwei.”
Miwei, a good name.
Richard said, “From now on, you’ll be responsible for my daily life, cleaning, laundry, and such. There will be others to help with these tasks. I’ll give you two hundred copper coins per month, including room and board. Is that okay?”
Miwei quickly shook her head and said, “Master spent so much money to save Miwei, there’s no need to pay copper coins anymore.”
Richard said, “As the master, I have the final say. Alright, now go heat some water. There’s still a lot to do today.”
Miwei lowered her head and said, “Yes, master.”
After speaking, she put down the broom and went to boil water.
