Chapter 14: Chapter 14
Logan took a shower and changed into Mike's clothes before stepping out of the bathroom.
"Yeah, I'm full of energy!" he declared.
Mike smiled at Logan, and Clark, looking like a little adult, nodded before asking in a somewhat confused voice, "Dad, is he still a pervert with clothes on?"
Logan bared his teeth playfully at Clark, making a fierce face. He grabbed Clark in a hug and said, "If you keep talking nonsense, I'll eat you!"
Clark clenched his fists and replied defiantly, "I'm not afraid!"
"Rawr!" Logan growled, faking a vicious roar.
Clark burst into laughter.
"Clark, call him Uncle Logan," Mike instructed.
"Uncle," Clark obediently responded.
Logan grinned, kissed Clark on the cheek, and said, "That's the best thing that's happened to me in days."
"There's more fun coming later," Mike added, knocking on the table.
Logan's eyes lit up with anticipation.
An hour later, Logan crouched outside Mike's warehouse with a flat expression, holding tools to fix the hole Clark had made earlier. His earlier excitement had completely vanished.
"I've been set up by Mike, no doubt about it," he sighed. Glancing at Clark, who was squatting beside him, Logan asked mildly, "Want to help me, kid?"
Clark shook his head. "My dad told me to watch and see the consequences of impulsive actions."
"Didn't you make this mess?" Logan said, narrowing his eyes.
Clark awkwardly nodded at the ground. "Yeah... so my dad wants me to see how acting on impulse causes trouble for others. He wants me to think before I do things in the future."
Logan paused, touched Clark's head, and said, "You've got a good father. What else did he say?"
Clark thought for a moment and then replied, "He told me to ask if you're happy."
"I'm thrilled," Logan muttered sarcastically, fighting the urge to give Mike a sharp swipe. Turning to Clark, he added, "I take back what I said earlier—your dad's a jerk!"
Logan sighed, grumbling under his breath, and continued fixing the wall.
That evening, when Logan finished the repairs and carried the tools back to Mike's house, he was greeted by a table full of dishes. Suddenly, the afternoon's work didn't seem so bad.
"This looks delicious!" Logan praised as he sat down.
"My dad's cooking is amazing!" Clark said proudly, mimicking a rooster by lifting his chin.
Mike chuckled, gently patting Clark's head. "Alright, let's eat."
A while later, after the meal, Logan picked at his teeth and looked at Clark. "Your kid's a mutant?"
"No, he's just really strong," Mike replied vaguely.
Logan didn't push the matter and instead asked, "What about you?"
"I'm not," Mike responded.
"You're sure?" Logan began, but Mike cut him off with a smile.
"Can I ask what kind of trouble you're in?" Mike inquired.
Logan fell silent, recalling his past. He opened his mouth to speak but couldn't find the words. With a shrug, Mike said, "I get it."
