chapter 15
15 – Magical Power Conversion
A novice adventurer’s day begins early in the morning with checking to see if there are any requests from the guild.
Be among other adventurers and check out the newly posted requests on the bulletin board…… I wanted to, but my request wasn’t there.
The guild’s request bulletin board only posts requests that can be accepted by bronze-level adventurers.
Then where does a novice level adventurer like me get requests?
Seeing as the receptionist is not responding to adventurers of other official ranks, I have to ask quickly.
“Well, today I am asked to catch a rat in a grain silo. The reward is 1 silver per animal.”
Since Tina was serving other adventurers, she was guided to another receptionist.
Meruru was training to be a receptionist, so she was not seen at the counter.
Is it catching mice? ….
“Is that just a rat? “Isn’t it like a rat monster?”
“Yes. “It’s just a mouse.”
“Is there anything else?”
“There is also a dock cleaning job. Oh, there’s also top wagon loading and pest control.”
This is a completely random manpower office.
Well, it was something that could not be helped.
The Novice rank was actually a temporary rank given to someone whose abilities as an adventurer had not been proven.
『Yunoa was filled with vain hopes that even though she was a novice, she might have at least one thing worthy of an adventurer.
But such expectations were as futile as digging in the sand to find gold nuggets.』
I left the harsh words of the narration behind, which I had become accustomed to, and left the guild after receiving a few chores.
If you think about it carefully, the guild’s arrangement of such chores for novice level adventurers was a kind of welfare system.
Until the novice level reaches bronze level, it is possible to make a minimum living only through guild work.
Of course, the money earned through this work meant nothing more than making a living.
Just catching rats costs 1 silver per rat, and I have to catch 30 rats to barely pay for a room at the inn.
Because this was not a system designed to make a lot of money from the beginning, I received work from the guild early in the morning and adjusted the work to the extent that I could complete it by late lunch.
If I diligently completed chores in the morning without even having time to breathe, I could barely save enough money to survive the day.
Compared to the time when I was digging for medicinal herbs with Meruru, I have literally plummeted into a mayfly’s life.
But aside from not being able to raise money, there were also clear advantages.
First, you can become familiar with the guild system by coming in and out of the guild every day.
Second, you can obtain various information by listening to the stories of other adventurers.
And the third and most important thing is that you can use your free time throughout the afternoon to do personal training.
Of course, working hard in the morning and practicing swordsmanship all afternoon was not easy.
But if you don’t try, nothing will change.
I didn’t have a status window that could raise my stats, nor did I have the invincibility cheat ability.
Only the narration that I occasionally hear in my head is the only thing that blows away the painful vitriol.
Then all I could do was try.
* * *
“Ha! Ha!”
With a burst of energy, the sword repeatedly cuts through the same air.
Thick drops of sweat flowed down my forehead and cheeks.
The wrist holding the sword was numb, and the palm of my hand was sore from being chapped.
A forest where I often traveled with Meruru to dig up medicinal herbs.
I swung my sword alone here every afternoon.
“Ha…… Ha… ….”
『Yunoa diligently swung the sword every day and hoped that it would reach a level that could be called ‘swordsmanship.’
However, he had no teacher to teach him swordsmanship, and his method of simply swinging the sword was extremely ignorant.
Of course, Yunoa’s swordsmanship was at a level that could not even be called swordsmanship.』
As I was exhausted from swinging the sword for several hours, the narration gave me a warning.
I know too.
You cannot become a ‘swordsman’ just by swinging a sword without a swordsmanship teacher or at least without a swordsmanship textbook.
But this was all I could do now.
It is a matter of basic physical strength.
Swinging a sword required more stamina than expected.
At the weapon store, I chose a sword that fit well in my hand and had an appropriate weight.
But I couldn’t handle it properly due to my lack of strength and stamina.
I looked into several places to see if there was a way to learn swordsmanship without spending a lot of money.
However, the option of paying money to learn swordsmanship right away was not possible because it was too much to live on with my current income.
So what I chose was to build up my stamina by swinging the sword for a long time.
It would be better to do something than to skip training because there is no one to teach or there is no way to learn.
I was planning on training like this at least until I learned proper swordsmanship.
I swung my sword like that every day, from afternoon to night, without missing a single day.
At first, after swinging it a few times, I became exhausted and the sword felt as heavy as a thousand pounds.
At night, I was in so much pain that I couldn’t sleep due to extreme muscle pain.
But the next day, without fail, I woke up at dawn, received chores from the guild, performed them, and trained in the afternoon.
As time passed, the amount of time I could swing the sword without stopping gradually increased.
I thought it was an inefficient and ignorant method, but I thought it was important to build up the stamina to handle a sword anyway.
I was worried that I might develop a strange habit that would interfere with my ability to learn real swordsmanship in the future, so I fixed the sword swing posture to one position.
This is the most basic frontal slash in kendo.
I learned kendo briefly when I was young, so I brought back memories of that time and repeated the movements as much as possible.
Face your gaze straight ahead, raise your sword high above your head, and slash down with all your might.
And repeat, repeat again…….
Honestly, when I held the sword in my hand, I felt like I wanted to imitate all the fancy techniques I had seen in cartoons and other places.
But I was afraid that if I gave in to that temptation, I would develop bad habits.
When learning to exercise, I have heard that if a strange habit is ingrained in the body, it takes several times longer to correct it.
The person I am now is like a blank sheet of paper without any drawings on it.
The size of the blank paper is so small that even if you try to draw a picture of swordsmanship, there is no space to draw on a blank paper the size of your palm.
I thought I would first develop basic physical strength and expand the blank space on which I could draw sword techniques.
And if possible, I didn’t want to draw anything useless on such a large blank sheet of paper.
The days when I wielded a sword alone in the forest every day.
I saw a familiar young man walking from inside the forest.
It was Oren, the young adventurer who saved me and Meruru from the slime hell.
“Oh, Yunoa. “What are you doing in a place like this?”
Oren came up to me, who was resting on a stump, covered in sweat, and asked.
“I’m training in swordsmanship. It’s still embarrassing to call it swordsmanship, but…….”
“Oh, by the way, I heard that you recently registered as an adventurer.”
Oren, a bronze adventurer, was on her way back after completing her request.
I thought I should use this chance meeting as an opportunity.
If I were you before coming to this world, I would have been a ‘bronze adventurer? They might have laughed and said, ‘That’s crap.’
This is because you can’t really feel how difficult it is, whether it’s grade F, bronze, or anything else, until you experience it yourself.
It was the same as someone who had never worked at a company before thinking that the position of assistant manager was not that big of a deal, but later, after working at the company, they realized that being an assistant manager was more difficult than they thought.
Well, I have never been there either.
Anyway, for me now, the bronze adventurer was a great and great adventurer.
I truly admired Oren because I saw him fight slime right in front of her.
She clearly had something to learn from him.
“Hey, if you have the time… ….”
I briefly exchanged her best wishes and caught Oren as she attempted to return to Kubel.
“Could you please take a look at my swordsmanship?”
* * *
“Ha!”
In front of Oren, she shows off her frontal downward slash, which she has repeated countless times.
Honestly, I didn’t expect to get good reviews.
But I hoped Oren would give at least a little of her advice.
“Are you swinging your sword like this every day?”
“Well, that’s right. “There is only so much I can do.”
“You just swung the sword without converting magic power?”
Oren asked me back.
mana? I have no idea what you’re talking about.
I was swinging the sword and suddenly it was magical.
“Magic power?”
“You sure you don’t know, right?”
“I don’t know.”
“Wow… ….”
Her Oren’s eyes widened in surprise.
mana? How could I know something like that?
Is that really that surprising?
I think so, Oren explained it to me.
“Magic transformation. “It means gathering the magic flowing in this world into your body and improving your body’s functions.”
“Is that possible?”
“It must be common sense to aspiring adventurers.”
Suddenly, I became a person without any common sense.
No one told me about that.
“How do you gather that magic power?”
“That’s… ….”
Oren began to explain in detail to me ‘magic conversion’, which is common sense for adventurers.
