Chapter 176: Snow Ape King
The Paladin leader who had been slapped down the mountain by Ethan was still fuming. As soon as he shouted his orders, Ethan, who had been surrounded with no way out, suddenly leaped into the air.
Everyone watching had the same thought: What an idiot. Does he really think he can just jump over our heads?
[Skill Used: Double Jump!]
This skill, attached to Ethan's boots, allowed him to perform a second mid-air jump by stepping on the air itself. As Ethan reached the peak of his first jump, he barely cleared the heads of the players in front of him. If he landed now, he'd still be trapped in their encirclement.
But then, to everyone's shock, Ethan shot upward again—this time not straight up, but diagonally, aiming to land behind them.
"Crap, he's trying to escape! Get him!" someone shouted.
A barrage of instant-cast spells, arrows, and bullets flew toward Ethan. The melee fighters, who had been standing close to him, were now in the ranged fighters' line of fire.
Transform: Bear Form.
Ethan shifted mid-air, tanking all the incoming attacks.
-1!
-1!
-1!
A string of forced damage numbers floated above his head.
[Ding… You have been attacked by player: HeartbrokenSorrow! You may now retaliate against their team!]
"What the hell? We're not even scratching him!" one of the players exclaimed, panicking.
"Don't worry! He's just a tanky Bear Druid—he can't deal damage!" another player chimed in, trying to sound confident as he urged the group to keep attacking.
Ethan landed with a grin. 'You're all dead.'
Transform: Owl Form.
The ranged players casting spells and the melee fighters trying to close in froze for a second when they saw Ethan transform into a fluffy owl. What the hell? A full-defense Bear Druid turning into an owl? Is he trying to kill us with cuteness? they thought.
Typhoon!
Whoosh…
Ethan flapped his owl wings, and a powerful gust of wind erupted, sending a wave of snow and players flying off the cliff.
"Ahhh! Help!"
"Priest, give me Levitate!"
"Mom, save me! I'm scared of heights!"
"Shut up! We don't even have a Priest in our group!"
In an instant, the edge of the cliff was cleared.
The rogue from the Nocturne Order guild rubbed his eyes in disbelief. What just happened? A non-damage crowd control skill just wiped out twenty players by blowing them off a cliff?
But Ethan wasn't done. He transformed into Panther Form, his sleek black body leaving a blur as he dashed across the snow. With a movement speed of 137% in Panther Form, he was like a streak of lightning, especially with the added speed boost from running downhill.
In seconds, he reached the Paladin who had been shouting orders earlier. Transforming back into human form, Ethan delivered another resounding slap.
Whack!
"Ahhh!"
The force of Ethan's downhill sprint, combined with the slap, sent the Paladin flying.
"Damn, that hurt!" Ethan muttered, shaking his hand and wincing.

The Nocturne Order rogue shivered as he watched. Why does he keep slapping people? It's not even considered an attack by the system, but it still hurts! And it's so humiliating. Plus, if he's complaining about the pain, how bad must it be for the guy he just slapped?
"Hey, rogue guy, I'm outta here!" Ethan called over his shoulder with a grin.
"Uh… yeah…" the rogue stammered, still processing what had just happened.
By the time another rogue appeared beside him, Ethan was long gone.
"Captain, don't you think that Druid reminds you of someone?" the second rogue asked, staring in the direction where Ethan had disappeared. His expression was uncertain, as if he was trying to piece something together.
The captain's face froze for a moment before he exclaimed, "Wait… could it be him? The so-called 'God of Druids' who's been active around Harmony City? The guild leader of Renegade Alliance?"
The second rogue nodded. "Yeah, that's probably him."
Unbeknownst to them, Ethan, still in stealth, was passing right behind them. He paused, glancing at the two rogues with a mix of surprise and amusement.
'They recognized me?' he thought, shaking his head with a wry smile. Guess being famous has its downsides.
He overheard the rogue mention a video on the official forums where Ethan had announced reforms to Renegade Alliance's guild system at the entrance of a dungeon. Deciding not to engage, Ethan quickly continued his ascent up the mountain.
Soon, he encountered another group of players, all wearing Frostbite guild emblem. They were likely part of the earlier commotion, coming to cause more trouble. But with their levels hovering around 28-29, they had no chance of detecting Ethan's stealth. He slipped past them, hugging the cliffside as he moved forward.
After bypassing several checkpoints guarded by different guilds, Ethan finally reached the level 45 zone. There, he witnessed something he hadn't seen since his rebirth—a massive boss fight involving tens of thousands of players.
So, they're fighting the Snow Ape King, Ethan thought, relieved. I thought they'd discovered the secret here.
The Snow Ape King was a level 45 elite boss, respawning every seven days. Its drops were decent but nothing extraordinary. As Ethan had climbed the mountain, he'd noticed at least seven or eight level 4 guilds stationed here.
Why are they going through so much trouble for a regular boss? he wondered. Do they think a higher-level boss automatically drops better loot? That can't be it.
Even if the loot were good, coordinating multiple guilds to take down an over-leveled world boss wouldn't be worth the effort. The losses would far outweigh the gains. Unless these guild leaders are as clueless as Marcus Skeiner from Blade Syndicate, Ethan mused.
Their actions piqued his curiosity. Is there something special about this boss that I don't know about? In his previous life, the Snow Ape King had been farmed relentlessly. It was killed almost as soon as it respawned, and no one had ever reported any unique drops. What are they after?
The Snow Ape King's health was now down to 30%. Ethan decided to wait and see, planning to swoop in and take advantage of the chaos once the boss was defeated. He positioned himself about 50 meters from the battle, observing the fight.
It quickly became clear that this was their first time fighting the Snow Ape King. Otherwise, they would have pulled their melee fighters back by now. When the boss's health dropped below 5%, it would enter a frenzy, using its Thunder Stomp ability every three seconds.
This skill was a nightmare for melee fighters—it stunned them for 3.5 seconds, effectively locking them in an endless cycle of stuns. The constant area-of-effect damage would overwhelm even the best healers.
At this stage, the tanks should have been positioned at maximum range, using taunts to keep the boss moving while ranged DPS burned it down. But instead, chaos ensued.
Roar!
The Snow Ape King pounded its chest, its body swelling as its white fur turned blood-red. With a thunderous boom, it stomped the ground, unleashing Thunder Stomp.
The massive shockwave stunned every melee fighter within range, including the tanks. Without the ability to block or mitigate damage, the tanks were obliterated in a single swipe. The boss's aggro went haywire, and it began rampaging through the players, stomping every few steps and leaving a trail of stunned—and soon dead bodies.
Despite the mounting casualties, the sheer number of players ensured that the boss's health continued to drop. Each wave of attacks chipped away tens of thousands of HP. As the Snow Ape King's health dwindled, Ethan began to inch closer, staying in stealth.
Just as the boss was about to fall, Ethan, still hidden, prepared to strike. Like a panther stalking its prey, he readied himself to pounce.
