Chapter 32: Chapter 30 : Departure
Rheanys Targaryen Velaryon (108 Third Moon)
Driftmark
Dear Mother,
By the time you receive this letter, I should already be on my way home. I have great news, or so I hope. I'm carrying your first grandchild, Mother. I'm with a child and couldn't be happier with the news.
It's been a week since I learned the news, and after consideration and discussion, Aemon and I decided I shall be heading home. The first child of Aemon and I, one made of love, Mother. Seeing him again after that time and experiencing this war with him, I feel I couldn't be without him anymore. As for Laenor, he and Seasmoke are doing well and have recovered, and they will have to continue this war without us. I have no doubt my brother has learned from his last encounter, and with Aemon's guidance, he will be an accomplished dragon rider. As for the father, he has taken pride and happiness in the announcement of me being with child. He was adamant about me returning to Driftmark, as was my husband. As for the war is going as Aemon had hoped, although Daemon's presence in Pentos has caused uneasiness in that region. Especially with his reported gifts and lands he received. It has caused the Triarchy and other powers to see Pentos as a possible threat that could perhaps cause another war. Yet, that still remains to be seen.
Letters about these developments have also been sent to Kingslanding, Winterfell, Seadragon Point, and Dragonstone. Even Runestone, they are my nephews, after all. I was quite persistent that Aemon sent a letter to them, the same as the gifts.
I will be home soon, Mother. I am home as quickly as Vhagar's wings can carry me.
Princess Laena Velaryon Targaryen, Princess of Dragonstone, Little Tyrosh, and Seadragon Point.
'She was coming home, and she was with child. Her little Dragon was with child. Repeating it in her head did not make it any less strange. Yet it wasn't something she was so surprised about. She had seen the love between Laena and Aemon; when they had been betrothed, the love had already been there, and their marriage had only consolidated that. Even from what her daughter had told, Rhaenyra might hold also a little part of her daughter's heart.
That was still an odd thing. She had noticed it in Laenor, and now her daughter had too? Had they both a liking for same-sex? She didn't mind. She was a Valyrian and wouldn't be uncomfortable or strange to accept their nature. She was their mother and would love them no matter who they chose to love. In Laena's case, not having two mothers competing for their children might even be advantageous. To have the affection of Aemon or their own over his. It would only be an advantage for them. It might work well, and she hoped the marriage would be fruitful on both sides.'
Then, her thoughts were interrupted as one of the household guards entered the hall. "My princess, a dragon of golden-yellow scales, has been sighted and is landing in the courtyard as we speak." The guard announced. 'What was Rhaenyra doing? Had she received word and wanted to be here for Laena's return?' She wondered.
"I shall receive her. My daughter has written; perhaps that is why she has come." She replied, putting on a cloak with a split between a dragon and a seahorse in white, light blue, red, and black colors.
"Let's go and see why my great-cousin has come."She added. "Yes, princess," The man replied, nodded, and followed her as she walked toward the courtyard of the High Tide.
As she arrived, she looked into the sky and saw Rhaenyra descending on dragonback. The yellow-golden scales and orange wings with streaks of white—it was the beauty of a dragon. Her own scarlet shadow had it, too. It seemed many female dragons had beauty to themselves.
As Syrax landed, she spotted the Princess. She wore riding clothing, and she didn't miss the chain mail she wore, however. Why was she wearing it? It seemed she even had a gilded sword with a dragon pommel at her hip.
"Princess, it is an honor to have received you, yet we received no word of your impending arrival, especially at this hour, as the sun is setting." She said with a smile.
"I apologize for arriving so late without sending word in advance. Pressing matters have made it so I could not send word before coming. I have brought my bag with my belongings, and I shall explain to you in private why I have come," Rhaenyra said, her face flushed.
"If you say so, princess, we shall discuss it in the Hall of Nine." She replied. "If you say so, princess," Rhaenyra answered back and returned to her Dragon, whispering a couple of words to the Dragon she could not hear. She took the bag and walked with her to the Hall of Nine.
"It's good to see Rhaenyra as part of the marriage, with my daughter and Aemon, a good bond is needed. As well as we are family as well, of course, so your coming is never unwelcome," she said as she held her hands, and Rhaenyra smiled at her words. "So why have you come? Are you here for Laena's arrival?" She questioned
Rhaenyra frowned at her, "Laena is coming back? I haven't received any missive yet. Why would you say she is coming back, Rhaenys?"
"My daughter has written. I suppose you shall learn soon enough, but she is with child. That is the reason for her return." She replied. There was some shock on Rhaenyra's face, but it turned into a bright smile. "Well, it was supposed to happen at some point. Hopefully, after Aemon's return, I shall also be blessed with a child. I hope only for Laena's safe return. It would be painful if she didn't," her face filled with hope and happiness as she spoke.
"When did you receive the letter, princess?" Rhaenyra asked, her face more questioning than before. "Shortly before you arrived. It also states that letters have been sent to Kingslanding and other places. However, I doubt the letters are the same." Rhaenyra nodded at her response and had a look of disappointment on her face.
"Well, I'm sure there will be a letter for you when you arrive back home, Princess. I suppose that will be soon?" She asked because she wasn't sure why she was here now.
"I'm not so sure, going to the Vale of Arryn, my mother's cousin has been besieged by rebel lords, trying to usurp her rightful place as Lady of the Eyrie," Rhaenyra said at last, explaining why she had come. It was a brave reason, a steadfast one. "You made a stop here along the way, I suppose." She questioned
"No, Princess, I have come to ask for your support. The King has permitted me to fight for my family, yet only if you join me. With the news of Laena, I understand if you do not join me." Rhaenyra's voice sounded defeated; perhaps she had the right to it. 'There was certainly an option to stay, considering her daughter was coming home.' She thought.
"Times of war force us to make choices we otherwise wouldn't make. I condone your actions of fighting for your kin," she said, pausing a second before answering with a yes or a no. "I shall. You join, Princess. You are my kin too, Princess, by blood and marriage. Although it pains me not to be at my daughter's side when she returns to this isle," she said with a heavy heart, yet there was a feeling of excitement of flying to battle like her father and son had done, like her ancestors of old.
"Thank you, Princess. I shall write a letter to my father to speak of these developments. I'm not sure if he will be pleased," Rhaenyra said with a smile. Well, with that smile, you did see Aemma in her.
"Edrian, enter." One of the household guards entered, bowing to her and Rhaenyra. "Edrian, please escort Princess Rhaenyra to the rookery so she can send word to her father. Afterward, show her a free chamber in the family wing." She spoke to one of the guards.
"Princess, I suppose you haven't had supper, and if you are inclined, I would like you to join me for mine. Then we can also discuss our plans for a flight toward the Eyrie," she said. Rhaenyra smiled. "Yes, we shall, Princess Rhaenys. I appreciate the offer. I shall join after placing my belongings in my room."
"Good. Edrian, escort the Princess to my husband's solar after she finishes her task. I'll see you soon, Princess." She bowed her head and watched as Rhaenyra left the Hall of Nine.
Supper
She sat at the end of the table in the family dining room, surrounded by the aromas of spice and grilled meats that wafted around the room. She had requested the cooks to prepare a meal sent over from the Stepstones. It was the sea snail that the Tyroshi used for their dye, and it was something she had yet to try. She suspected that Rhaenyra might appreciate a dish from the lands her husband and sister-wife had been fighting.
'Was that what her daughter had called her sister-wife? She wasn't sure.' She pondered it as Rhaenyra walked in. It seemed the maids had dressed her in simple clothes, yet fitting for a dragon rider. Silver-threaded dragonwolf was woven at the front, with a red three-headed dragon of their house at her breast. The rest of her clothing was black.
"You look like a true dragonrider, not that you didn't before with the Valyrian mail. Welcome to the meal, Rhaenyra. I had the cooks prepare food sent over from the Stepstones. I thought you might like it, as both our hearts are in that place," she said, and Rhaenyra looked pleased with the sentiment as she looked around the table.
"Thank you for inviting me, Rhaenys. As for the food, please tell me what the cooks prepared from the Stepstones," Rhaenyra replied, smiling and seeming intrigued by the food.
"The food is certainly something. I heard good things about it from my husband, son, and goodson. So, I asked for a batch to be sent over. Yet, my daughter was both unhappy and happy about this meal. She also said it tasted good. So I'm not sure what to expect from the meal. It's the sea snail from which the Tyroshi dye is made," she explained. Despite the pleasant smell, the thought of eating a snail made it less appetizing.
"Well, if we don't try new things we don't expect to like, how would we know?" Rhaenyra remarked with a smile as she took a bite of the food. Encouraged, she followed suit, finding the tender meat and delicate flavor with spices of the East quite delightful.
She swallowed her Dornish Red and a piece of the snail meat that tasted delightful. "It seems the men were right about this. The food tastes delicious. I didn't expect a snail to taste this good." She proclaimed.
"True, it truly does. Certainly, it is something to bring back to King's Landing in the future. But that will have to wait. For now, we fly to the Vale to crush rebels and oath-breakers," Rhaenyra added, her tone growing serious.
"Rhaenys, I think it might be wise to stop at Runestone before we reach the Vale of Arryn so that we may gain a better understanding of the situation there. I only know their troop numbers, which are around 7,000 men led by Lady Jeyen's treacherous kin," Rhaenyra suggested. She agreed; having more information before flying into battle was a wise course of action.
"Yes, I thought of that as well. Having more information before flying into battle is a wise course of action. I doubt Rhae Royce has plotted against another woman in power, especially with her sons born a year prior. She will want to prevent any unnecessary bloodshed in the lands she rules," she concurred.
"Yes, I suspect so too. Still, I'm curious to see what Jedor is doing?" Rhaenyra mentioned casually. She looked up towards Rhaenyra, who seemed surprised. 'Who was Jedror? The word was Valyrian, and she remembered it; she had spoken it to Meleys plenty of times—it meant sky in the common tongue.' She wondered.
"Oh, yes, of course, you don't know. It was what Aemon and I called Baelon's Dragon, a young hatchling Aemon brought with him from the North. The name is for the sky, as the Dragon has a pale blue with green coloring, a bit like how copper ore looks," Rhaenyra explained, her voice tinged with melancholy.
"Yes, the Dragon my cousin sent to the boys. I still can't believe he did it. I understand why Laenor was given an egg. It was of two eggs my father picked out for me before he left to travel to Tarth. But by sending a dragon and an egg to another house, Yobart is, by all rights, a Royce. It will give that power to another house. I know all too well that my husband has gained more autonomy because of the dragons he holds. It will upset the power balance in the region if Yobart manages to either bond with the Dragon or hatch the egg," she stressed. Her cousin was sometimes too easily swayed by words and family sentiment.
"Yes, I understand. I get why you would send an egg or Dragon to Baelon," Rhaenyra grimaced at the name; it brought memories of the past and what the wanted son had brought. "But yes, sending one to Yobart too wasn't something I agreed with. Just look at all of Jaehaerys's younger daughters; none of them had dragons, as there was a great chance they would marry outside the family of the Dragon. I suppose Jaehaerys thought the same way about Rhae: that all the children would be Targaryens, and Runestone would become a stronghold for our house," she acknowledged. Rhaenyra was smart; she had learned much, and her daughter had told her as much.
If her daughter, Aemon and Rhaenyra, could stand together as they do now, they would truly form a group that could rival that of the Conqueror and his sisters. Perhaps they would eclipse the reign of her grandfather, and if their children united, her legacy and that of her father would be secured into the line of the Iron Throne.
"Well, we will see if the son takes after the father or the mother. Or perhaps both. It is yet to be seen. A marriage will be needed to bring House Royce into the fold when the boy is of age, especially with the Arryns," she said, and Rhaenyra nodded, taking another sip of her wine.
"Yes, and as Lady Jeyne is yet unmarried, there might be a question of who will be her heir. Especially now, with this rebellion that has taken place. The crown will want it handled, and it is something that I will need to discuss with my great-cousin, to ensure the future stability of the Vale." Rhaenyra replied.
"Yes, it will be something to discuss. After we crush these rebels with fire and blood," she toasted toward Rhaenyra, who gave her a bright smile. "We shall, like the Conqueror and his sisters, we will bring fire and blood to our enemies," Rhaenyra added.
Aemon Targaryen (108 A.C. Third Moon)
Little Tyrosh – Aemon's Chambers
"Aemon, Aemon! Don't stop, please," his wife moaned beneath him. Oh, it was wonderful, her heard voice, as he fucked her. She did feel wonderful, just as good as she did when he made her his wife all those moons ago. "Your wish is my command," he said, feeling Laena's walls close around his cock, making him groan in pleasure.
"You like it when I say those things, don't you?" he whispered as he bit into her softly, fucking her a bit quicker. "Yes," she moaned out, her breath becoming more ragged. "Come, for my goddess, come all over my cock as I fuck you," he breathed out, gripping her hips more tightly.
"Gods!" she moaned out as she peaked, her walls clenching around his cock. "Yes, Laena," he moaned into her as he kissed her neck. Her hand clamped around his neck as she held on to him as he fucked her through her climax. "Aemon, come now for me. Let me feel when you fill me with seed," she said as she kissed him, those sweet lips. At her words, he obeyed her command more than willingly. "As you wish," he purred in her ear.
He fucked her quicker, claiming her as deeply as he could, reveling in her peaked cunt. It was a perfect fit for him. "Laena," he moaned, feeling himself getting closer. "Come for me, my dragon," she moaned as she closed her legs around him, pressing him even closer to her. "Ahh, Laena," he grunted as he thrust deep, his seed spilling inside her wondrous cunt. "Oh, my goddess," he moaned as he thrust a couple of times more before his climax ended.
He collapsed onto her, kissing her gently and holding her beautiful face as he settled between her thighs, his cock still soft inside her cunt as he admired her beauty. His hand ran through her curls; he was going to miss this, the comfort that she brought in this war, the few moments of peace.
"Aemon, are you alright?" she asked, her concern palpable. "Yes, very much so. It pains me that you have to go, yet it also fills me with peace to know you will be safe with our child in your belly," he said with a smile.
Tears appeared in her eyes as she spoke, "I love you, Aemon, and I'd rather not part from you. Yet, I know it's the best option; war makes us choose options we'd rather not take," she said, and he kissed her, tasting some of the salt of her tears. "Don't cry, I'll come back to you, I promised, didn't I? To you and Rhaenyra. I'm not planning to be absent when the babe comes," he reassured her, wiping away her tears. "I will be there, you understand?" he said, kissing her again, claiming her with more vigor. "Yes," came her almost desperate words, stirring a desire in him.
He felt his cock hardening inside her. "I will come back," he said again, as if a prayer, thrusting forward, making her gasp in a moan. "Tell me you believe me," he said, kissing her again and increasing his pace even more. "Yes," she said, and he felt her nails digging into his back.
"I always come back," he said, and it was partly true, two times. "I come back to my loves," he moaned as he thrust deep, the coupling now feeling very intense, as if their longing enhanced it all. "Aemon!" Laena moaned into his neck. "Laena," he grunted, doing it again. "I will be there," he said again, thrusting deep and hard.
"Please," she moaned desperately, her cunt tightening around him. He hissed as he felt her nails digging deeper into his back, but he didn't care. He began to take her with even more vigor, his movements a desperate desire of longing. "Yes," Laena moaned as she peaked again; he didn't last long afterward. It was a quick coupling, yet it was something different. "Oh, I love you," he said, settling in her embrace as sleep overcame them. She spoke then before sleep took over, "I love you too."
--
Morning of departure
He wasn't ready in the morning when he woke, his wife pressing against him. Laena would go today, and he wanted her to stay. Yet it wasn't to be. He looked into her pale blue eyes, the colors of her house sigil, those eyes he had lost himself in numerous times, bringing him peace in times of war. He prayed that this wasn't all some sick joke of the gods he had to wake up from.
"You're so beautiful, like the sun in the morning as it rises in the east and sets in the west," he kissed her on her lovely lips.
"You're quite handsome too. Don't mar your pretty face; it would be a pity," she said as she embraced him, her warm body against his, filling him with longing and desire. He traced her body as he climbed between her legs, lying on top of her and cradling her in his arms.
"It's almost time," Laena said. The words came out with a strain.
"I know. I wish I could stay here with you. Yet we owe it to ourselves and our child for me to go. I want that happiness with you, Aemon, and with Rhaenyra to have a family. Something we build together, the three of us," her words warmed him, and he desired the very same thing.
He kissed her then, feeling his own body react to her. "I wanted the same, more than you know." He had always wanted it. Even when he was still a bastard, he wanted a home, a family of his own. Even Winterfell, he wanted it all. Yet it was all for Robb; now she was his wife, and his other love was waiting for him.
"I know; I see it in your eyes. The love and the desire you have. Take me one more time before I go, so I leave with the thought of you inside making me whole," as she traced his cheek, looking him straight into his eyes with love and affection.
"Nothing would stop me from doing so," he murmured as he kissed her. He was already as she guided his cock toward her entrance. He slid into her with ease; she was already wet from it, and it was wondrous.
He thrust, and she moaned as he pressed deep into her. "My goddess," he murmured as he went deeper and quicker. He pressed into her hair as he cradled her, her hair moving gently against his face.
He kissed her neck as her hands held his ass, pressing him closer to her. His cock moved with ease in her slick cunt, and after some time, he felt her cunt tightening around his cock; he let out a grunt at the sensation. "Oh, how you feel like a blessing when your cunt tightens around my cock as I come," he murmured into her ear, biting it softly.
"Dragons are mates for each other; every time you are inside me, I feel the fire inside me light up," she panted out as she kissed him, driving on thrusting into his wife with the fire of that burn in both of them.
"Come now for me; leave with your seed as I fly on my own she-dragon," she said as she bit into his ear. He didn't need much more; as he went on, his balls slapped against her cunt, which was now dripping with her fluids.
"Bye, fire and blood; I will come back to you and our family," he said as he roared and climaxed, his seed shooting into her cunt. He drove deep, gaining moans of lust and love from Laena. He even felt her cunt tightening again. "Oh, you liked that, my love; you came again, my lusty wife," he kissed her tits as he thrust out his climax, leaving them both out of breath as he laid down on top of her.
"Well, did that satisfy your needs, filling you up? I thought I gave a good performance."
"Oh, you arrogant man, but yes, you did. I am well satisfied," he grinned at her and kissed her again. "Good; me too. The thought of you will warm me in the moons to come."
He then looked toward the cauldron where the egg was. "I wanted you to take the egg. It will be for our child, the future protector. A prince or Princess will need one in this world," he said. He didn't know why, yet he felt the Dragon would protect the child like Ghost and Balerion had protected him over the years; no man had it better than that. "Yes, I understand. I feel stronger with Vhagar than I felt before. Having our babe with that as well would warm my heart."
"I was thinking of names. I have a name if it's a girl, a name I would love to give the child," he said. He had known for some time what he wanted to name a girl after. "Oh, please tell me. I would love to know. I have been thinking of names for both boys and girls, yet nothing as clear as yours. You had a smile on your face when you spoke of it," she said with a grin.
"Well, I thought of Arya. It has a special meaning for me, as it was a companion for me in my dreams. She loved me fully despite who I was. It's silly, I know, but she brought me love in those dreams when she didn't need to. It also is a common Stark and Northern name," he said. It was true, part of it, but should he tell her all he knew? Or about the fact Arya was the sister he had left behind, like so many others he cared for and loved? No, but he told a version of the truth; he still dreamed of those times, and Arya, the loving little Arya he had known in Winterfell, was in many of them.
"Oh, I didn't know you had those dreams. Yet I like the name. It even sounds a bit Valyrian. How many Valyrian names end in 'ya'? Quite a lot. It also honors your northern heritage. Plus, I love the story behind the name; it gives it more meaning. Arya Targaryen, daughter of Aemon and Laena Targaryen," she said. "I love how you speak it; it rolls off your tongue like a lovely song," he said, getting excited at the prospect.
"Well, what were your thoughts on names? It all gets me excited about the prospect of having a babe in our arms," he said with a wide grin. "I thought perhaps after my father and mixing it with Aegon. I liked Coregon or Maenor a lot. For girls, I thought of Rhaena and Corhea or perhaps after your father, Baela," she said. He liked them all, yet Baela and Rhaena sparked more interest, as those were the names given to the twins she had given birth to in a different past.
"I like them all, my love. If the gods will it, we can have as many as you want," he meant it. He would give her as many as she wished, and if she wished to stop after this child, he wouldn't make the same mistake as his brother did, pushing for his wife to have more. He couldn't put Laena through that pain and suffering.
"We shall see which name this child shall bear when the little dragonwolf is here," she said with a smile. He wondered how many children he would have and hoped he could be a good father who could be there for them and give guidance when needed.
"Yes, and we shall love him or her with all our hearts," he said as he kissed her again. Then he left the bed with heavy feet, his hand lingering in hers as he went to summon a bath.
---
Departure
He stood there with the rest as Laena, together with the dragonkeepers, saddled the enormous Dragon. Growling in annoyance, yet with a rider beside her, she allowed Laena's belongings to be strapped to her saddle. Soon, when all was done, she would be gone, flying toward Storm's End and then on to Driftmark.
"You shall see her again, my friend. It won't be forever. You shall see her again as you hold your offspring in your hands," Balerion said. He knew Balerion was right, yet he would rather be with her than in this war that had lasted almost two years, and it would drag on longer than that.
"I know, yet it feels like parting with a part of yourself. That isn't a feeling I enjoy one bit, Balerion. It is worse than it was last time," he said to the Dragon through their connection.
"True, yet you bonded with her stronger than before. You also part with your offspring. Humans have a strong bond with children, which is different from us dragons. We form bonds with all our kind. We mourn the loss of our young when they die, yet not like you humans. Yet the loss of Dragonbond with a rider is worse, as well as when you lose the bond you are mated with. It brings us either into a morning or a deep rage."
The dragons had different forms, they cared for each other, yet it was the same. Their bonds were more of bonds than blood and feelings, unlike what men felt for each other.
"Well, I have had enough loss in my life, Balerion. I'd rather do without, yet it will be something nobody can avoid. It's part of life and is something the damn Night King means to break, bringing the world into a cycle of only darkness," he shuddered a little, recalling those cold blue eyes.
"Yes, death and life are a circle, and some people like you are chosen to make sure the cycle isn't broken. Or that is my reasoning on why we're both still alive," Balerion said. He suspected that Balerion was right. He had come back, yet that first time he returned from death he wondered who brought him back. Yet, he suspected that it wasn't like the second time. He was less aware, parts of him had been dimmed, the flame and ice of his diminished, his resolve weakened. Perhaps it was because of the Great Other Gods that influenced his return. Melisandre's wicked magic and practices of sacrificing people to flames were a sentiment of that darkness.
Yet with his second resurrection, he had been sent by the gods of life, the Old and the Valyrian gods. He was back, and his life had taken a turn for the better. The burden of preparing the world for the coming dark had become his, and preventing the bloodshed of the Dance.
Yet sometimes he wondered what path to take with that. He saw an opportunity to bring the great houses into the fold and let the house of the Dragon reign for many more centuries.
"Aemon?" He looked up and saw Laena standing in front of him. "Sorry, I drifted off. Your departure is heavy on my mind. Who wouldn't be a wife like you?" He embraced her and gave her a kiss. "I love you. Never forget that, my love. Look for my return, and I shall be at your side when the babe comes," he said, embracing her again. Not really wanting to let go yet, he had to keep up appearances. "I love you too, and I shall wait for you, even if it will be forever." She said, a gave him a warm smile.
"Don't worry, sister. I shall keep him safe. He won't become crab feed," Laenor said with a grin, receiving a soft hit to the head from his father. "Laenor, say that next time to someone you love as they leave you. You will know the depth of their words, and regret yours" Corlys spoke sternly to his son, who shamefully lowered his gaze and mumbled an apology.
"Goodbye, sister. Have a safe flight, and keep my niece or nephew safe," Laenor embraced Laena, and Laena said something he didn't hear, yet it made Laenor chuckle. He smiled and thought about his sister whom he hadn't seen in nearly two years. He loved that girl and thought warmly of that little one.
His thoughts were broken when Corlys spoke up "Daughter, you have made me proud in this campaign. Now please be safe and be ready for the next battle," Corlys kissed his daughter on the forehead, then turned back to him. Embracing him again, she spoke into his ear. "I love you forever." "I love you too. I shall miss you, my goddess," he said, and he received a chuckle from Laena. He kissed her one more time before leaving, escorting her to Vhagar.
"Keep her safe, girl," he said as he stood beside the massive Dragon, cloaking him in her shadow. The Dragon purred as he stroked her, he was probably the only one Vhagar allowed beside her rider to what he did.
"Be safe, my love," Laena said when she was finished strapping herself in her saddle, and he nodded and spoke the same words to her. She smiled and gave the command to take her into the sky after he had stepped aside. 'Until we meet again,' he murmured under his breath as Vhagar disappeared on the horizon.
Lyanna Stark Targaryen (108 A.C. Third Moon)
Kingslanding
A letter from Aemon had arrived for her, Rhaenyra, Visenya, and for Viserys. He had written two moons before to give an account of the war and congratulate Rhaenyra for her fifteenth nameday. Visenya sat in front of her at the table, waiting patiently, tapping her fingers on the table.
"Dear, are you excited to hear from your brother?" She asked.
Her daughter answered quickly. "Don't be stupid, I always am. My brother is like heroes of the stories you tell—how can I not be?"
She chuckled at her daughter and shook her with a bright smile.
"Shall we read, then?" Visenya nodded quickly as she began to read Aemon's letter.
Dear Mother and Sister,
I thank you both for the nameday gifts; I enjoyed them. Having something from home is always welcoming. I hope both of you are well; give extra greetings to the rest of the family. I hope that I shall return to you within half a year so our pack can be whole again. I hope Ghost is behaving himself; I feel he is content and has my duty of caring for Rhaenyra and you well while I'm away. Give him a pet for me; he is my white shadow in King's Landing.
As for the rest, I have some good news—I'm going to be a father. Although sometimes I feel I am already one with you, little sis. Laena has been with child for a moon and should return to Driftmark; when this letter arrives, she should already be on her way. I wish I could be with her now, but duty has me stay in this place far from my heart.
Don't worry about the war; Seasmoke has made a full recovery, so the blockade can be held in place, and old Dready still has some fire left to fly.
As for little Bennard, he has been a great squire for me, as has Laenor. There is hope for him to get his knightly spurs at the end of this war. Both have grown much, and you all shall be proud of them. I have also sent letters to Rhaenys and to Benjen about both processes.
Little Vis, don't forget to practice your swordsmanship and dragon riding. Also, be nice to Nephew; he is a new dragon and has yet to learn to fly. I love you; don't forget the words of what Uncle Benjen told us: the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.
Mother, I love you. I hope you are happy to become a grandmother and hold your true grandchild in your arms. Sometimes, I still can't truly believe all this is real, and I wake up in darkness, all alone.
I hope to see you both soon.
Your son and brother,
Aemon Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone, Little Tyrohs, and Sea Dragon Point.
A tear trickled down her cheek as she felt much the same as Aemon did. This all felt like it could end at any moment sometimes, a thought that came to her in both good and bad moments. Yet it happened, and her son would hold his first child, whom he could openly love as a father, in his arms. She knew her son; if he could, he would have claimed the babe as his own and maybe even married Alicent as well.
Alicent had given her son his first child, as well as her first grandchild. She would always keep them in their hearts because of that. It also granted security—Alicent was in love with her son, and he held her trust in what he had done. So, there was hope for future control of guiding her away from the path her father had set for her.
"I'm to be an aunt again?" Her daughter asked, bringing her out of her thoughts. "Yes, sweetling, your good-sister Laena, as your brother's babe in her belly. She will be home, yet her mother won't be there to receive her; she has gone with your niece to the Vale. So you want to come with me to High Tide; I wish for her not to be alone; becoming a mother can be scary."
"Yes, can we go on Dreamy? She wants to fly, and with kin, she feels happy when I'm with her." Oh dear, she wanted her to fly on her Dragon with her. Yes, her daughter had flown on a dragon since she was six; these past two years, she had also done it alone. It made sense for her to want to fly; it would also cut down on travel time.
"I think on it, darling; you know we can't bring the wolves then if we fly. But I suppose Dreamy can come anyway; she will surely follow you. She's old enough to fly on her own." Visenya sighed but nodded. She didn't want to leave Patch, and to be honest, neither did she want to leave Frost.
"Yes, I want to bring Patch; then we can play on the beach," Visenya said with a smirk. "Can Meghan also come, uh, can you ask Lord Strong, please, please?" Her daughter pleaded, making big puppy eyes, hoping her friend would come with her to Driftmark.
"Sure, I can ask if she can. Now go quickly and get ready yourself; I hope to sail in the morning to depart for Driftmark." She said and gave her daughter a kiss before Visenya's legs carried her out of the room. Clement Crabb gave her a nod as he followed Visenya out of the door.
"Alys can come in," she spoke up. "Can you please gather my things? I'm planning a journey to Driftmark and hope to stay there. Rhaenys isn't there. I hope to support my gooddaughter. She is carrying my first grandchild, after all."
"As you wish, Princess, I shall see it done. When do you intend to leave?"Alys questioned. "I hope by tomorrow, with the wings of Vhagar, my gooddaughter should be home in two or three days of flying. I'll go to the ravenry and send a message of my coming, then see if my stepson has already received the news." Alys nodded and started ordering the other servants around as she left the room for the ravenry.

King's chambers
She arrived at Viserys' chambers and saw the two Kingsguards waiting outside the doors, Ser Simon Darry and Lorent Marbrand. "Is the King inside? I have some news I wish to share with him," She greeted both before Ser Lorent knocked at the door, opening it and asking for her entry as per the King's wishes.
"His Grace is available. You're allowed to enter."Lorent replied. "Good day to you both, Sers, always so dutiful," she said, smiling and walking through the door.
She saw Viserys sitting over at his model of the Valyrian City. "Ah, Lyanna, it's good that you have come. I suppose you also heard the news." She nodded, yet his voice sounded weary. "Please take a seat. I can talk and work on some things when we talk." She took a seat in front of him.
"Yes, a raven from Aemon arrived, my first grandchild, yet Aegon sometimes feels like one as well," she said as she spoke with affection of the little boy. Then again, he was her first grandchild. "Well, you are my stepmother, and your support after Aemma's death has been a comfort, as well as with Jaehaerys. I sometimes wonder what kind of King my father would have been. Would he have been more decisive? Or how would he have handled Daemon? I pray sending over the birthrights to boys and having them be presented at court at some point will heal that wound. We are three brothers, yet we are not together." She listened to him, 'yet Daemon was someone she had tried to be on good terms with. Daemon had always seen her as the seductress of his father and shaming Princess Alyssa's memory. Yet she hadn't; she only fell for Baelon, and he had for her, giving her eight wonderful years of happiness.' She thought back.
"I wish Baelon was here too, yet you have carried Jaehaerys' peace through, and with sending forces to the Stepstones, you have shown strength, and your line will live on, as well as Baelon's, your children, and in the ones Aemon, Visenya, and Daemon will have. Also, don't forget you also have healed the rift between House Velaryon and us. By making Aemon heir, you have forged the bloodlines of Aemon and Baelon into one, breaking peace with Corlys and Rhaenys." She said, giving VIserys a warm smile, and he nodded.
"That's true, and soon, the first child of that union will be born. As well as mine; Alicent is with child again." How she didn't control her surprise, yet she gave him a warm smile. "Good news, a new Prince or Princess for the realm. Let's hope it's a girl. I'm sure Visenya wants another young girl dragon to play with or to guard like Rhaenyra did with Visenya when she was younger."
"Yes, Rhaenyra and Visenya had that kind of bond. It always pained Aemma and me so much that we couldn't give another sibling to play with. But she had Aemon and Visenya, as well as Laena." He didn't say Alicent; that might still be a bit of a sorrowful or shameful point for him.
"Well, she did eventually warm to Aegon; let's hope Rhaenyra can warm to the child that will come. As for the children to come, with Rhaenys gone with Rhaenyra and Laena returning, I plan to travel to Driftmark to be with Laena. Visenya shall also join," she said with a smirk.
"You should go; it's her first child, and having a mother figure at her side will be good for her. Thank you for reassuring me; I sometimes question if I do the right thing. I try my very best," she smiled at him. Yet Viserys had, on occasion, shown more backbone. Yet, as of now, the realm was together, and the war, as far as all the reports went, did as well.
"You do, yet not always. No one ever makes always the right choice. What is most important is that you stand by your decisions and live with the consequences, good or bad. You're the King, and a king has to be steadfast in his decisions. You may well listen to your advisors, yet you can't let them make the decisions for you; you will have the final say in the matter," she said, and he smiled at her words.
"I understand, yet the burden of the crown is heavy, and sometimes that weight becomes too much. You desire to leave things be and let that burden fall off," she sympathized with him. The Prophecy of Aegon and the truth of that lay deep in her thoughts and her son's. The darkness in the North was coming, although Viserys also spoke of the burden of being a king. Both weighed on him, yet it was his to bear and her son's one day to do so again.
"You can share the burden; your family shall help in that. You already have done that. Rhaenyra has gone to the Vale, and Aemon to the Stepstones; we all share the burden, and if the gods are good, Daemon shall do so as well," she doubted Daemon, but the rest of the family would support their King in his need.
"I know, and I will always be grateful for it. Thank you for all the love and support you and your children have given me. Now go and prepare yourself; Laena will want her goodmother by her side when she arrives," Viserys said with a smile. She grinned as she walked over to him, embraced him, kissed him on the cheek, and left him to work on his Valyrian city model.
"Good day, Your Grace," she said with a warm smile as she left the room.
