Legacy of Harry Potter

Chapter 6: Buying Books

June 1994

Gringotts Wizarding Bank

Harry and Sharptooth took their respective seats.

"Do you wish to talk about anything else Mr. Potter?" Asked Sharptooth.

Harry shook his head, "No. About the payment of the procedure."

"We will deduct it automatically from your trust vault," Sharptooth cut off Harry in middle.

Harry continued, "I also wanted to withdraw some money from my vault but"

Sharptooth waited for Harry to finish.

"But I don't have my key with me," finished Harry.

"You have not gotten your key back from Molly Weasley?" questioned Sharptooth.

"I never had my key. Hagrid got me here for the first time and got me just enough coins to barely survive the first year and in my second year Mrs. Weasley had my key who used it to get my supplies and same for my third year," Harry answered back.

"So you never authorized Mrs. Weasley to use your money and have your key?" Questioned Sharptooth.

"She might have mentioned to me about getting my money and helping in getting the supplies and I had agreed but I did not understood things back then." stated Harry.

He continued, "Money was a luxury for me and I had no idea what all that entails. It never occurred to me the value of all that gold I had with me and since Hagrid only got me very little coins and I lived like almost a pauper."

Now Harry himself wondered that why despite having so much gold in his vault he was still wearing old clothes and no one at Hogwarts even mentioned it to him. Also, he had his glasses broken but he did not got a new one and if Hermione had not repaired it during his first journey on Hogwarts express, he might have worn the same broken glasses for the whole year.

Sharptooth added, "I must inform you that whatever money Mrs. Weasley took out was much greater than what is required to gather school supplies and live off for a year. She stated that she had your explicit permission to take as much as she wanted. Also, when I questioned her why were you ignoring all of my summons and did not come himself to take out money, she did not answer clearly and ditched the topic immediately."

Sharptooth continued, "Very well for now. I will get you another key made and the previous key would be declared redundant."

Harry nodded, "That would be helpful. I will be back in few days and hopefully with some knowledge about all what this entails and then we can have our discussion."

Sharptooth nodded in agreement.

After another few minutes of wait, Harry was delivered his new key, which was followed by another exhilarating cart ride to his trust vault from which he stuffed a large amount of gold coins in one pouch and walked outside Gringotts with his hood covered face.

June 1994

Diagon Alley

His destination for now was Flourish and Blotts. Walking inside the bookstore Harry started to quickly go through books trying to find anything useful.

After rummaging through for at least an hour he selected quite a few books related to history of magic, wizarding society, its political structure, history of old and ancient families and many more obscure topic.

Although the book store contained various books on magical legends like Merlin, Morgana, Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin and many others including himself and Dumbledore there was no book titled or related to Peverell brothers.

He could only hope that he may find something useful in one of the history books.

He arrived at the counter to get his billing done of his dozen books.

"Quite a reader you are young boy and don't tell me you have sneaked from your house," a tired appearing middle aged man at the counter commented seeing Harry with lot of books and the masked appearance.

Since it was the summer vacation, the shop was mostly empty.

"Would you please conduct the sale faster," stated Harry indicating that he was in no mood to engage in any small talk.

The man sighed and started to arrange the books.

"Do you have any book on Peverell Brothers?" Harry asked after hesitation.

The man stopped and stared at Harry, "Why do you ask boy?"

Harry was confused at the man's reaction but was certain that the man knew of them but it was not something which might have been mentioned regularly.

"I heard it somewhere and that they were great wizards. I just wanted to know," answered Harry.

"Ah! You must have heard them in The Tales of Beedle The Bard," the man smiled as if he came to a realization.

Within moments he produced one thin looking book on the counter, "here it is. Do you want to add this too?"

Harry nodded in affirmative. Though he was unsure about all of it. He finally gets something related to the brothers and that too in a book of fairy-tale.

"That would be 39 galleons after rounding off. Consider it small discount," stated the man after going through all the books.

Harry counted his galleons and handed them over to the man.

The man meanwhile took his wand and waved it and the bundled books shrunk to a size of a small cube.

Seeing this Harry said, "Can you leave them in their original state. I am underage hence not allowed to perform magic."

The man smiled, "You just need to tap on the top of the books and they would be back to their original state. No magic required."

Harry was relieved hearing this. He was worried about how was he going to take such large number of books with him and whether Dobby would be able to pop him at his home along with the books.

Harry picked up the shrunken cube and placed it in his large pocket of the sweatshirt and was about to walk out from the shop. "If you want to know more about the Peverell brothers then you may find such books in the Knockturn Alley," Harry heard the man muttering behind his back. Harry nodded without turning and left the shop quickly and quietly.

As soon as he was on streets he muttered, "Dobby" and there was a pop and with another immediate pop Harry was gone from the Diagon Alley back to his home.
