Chapter 42: A Farewell Ceremony
The Valley of Peace had never looked so vibrant. Lanterns adorned every building, their warm glow casting golden light over the streets. The townsfolk gathered in droves, lining the paths that led to the valley's edge. Farmers, merchants, children, and elders alike stood shoulder to shoulder, waiting to bid farewell to their beloved heroes—the Dragon Emperor and the Furious Six.
At the base of the Jade Palace steps, a platform had been erected, adorned with silk banners in hues of crimson and gold, bearing the emblem of the Dragon Warrior. Po, Tai Lung, Shifu, and the Furious Five stood at the center, gazing out at the sea of adoring faces.
Master Shifu stepped forward, his voice carrying over the crowd. "Today, we gather not just to send off warriors, but to honor protectors. For years, this valley has stood as a symbol of peace, a beacon of hope in uncertain times. And now, as danger looms beyond our borders, these brave souls step forward to ensure that light never dims."
The crowd erupted into cheers, a thunderous wave of applause and chants of "Dragon Emperor!" and "Furious Six!"
Po stepped up next, scratching the back of his head. "Wow. Okay, uh, this is... a lot. I mean, don't get me wrong, I do love the attention, but, uh, you guys are making it hard to keep my cool here." He grinned sheepishly, earning a wave of laughter from the crowd.
Then his tone shifted, his voice steady and sincere. "Look, I know it's scary out there right now. Shen's no joke. But I need you all to know something." He pointed to the people, then to himself and his friends. "We've got this. Not because we're stronger, faster, or even cooler than him—though, let's be honest, we totally are—but because we fight for something bigger than ourselves. We fight for you."
Po paused, letting the weight of his words settle. Then, with a twinkle in his eye, he added, "And because I haven't had a proper meal today, so there's no way I'm letting Shen ruin my appetite!"(AN: The Apetite of a Panda isn't something to mess with, or I wouldn't if I were you...)
The crowd roared with laughter and cheers, the tension breaking into heartfelt joy.
The Furious Six each took a moment to step forward, offering their words. Tigress spoke with quiet resolve, promising to honor the valley's trust. Monkey joked about keeping Po in line. Viper's voice was kind yet determined, while Mantis and Crane shared lighthearted jabs at each other to ease the mood.
Tai Lung's presence was perhaps the most surprising. Though still stoic, his words resonated deeply. "I've made mistakes," he admitted. "But I've also learned that redemption isn't about what you've done; it's about what you choose to do now. I choose to fight for all of you."
Master Shifu placed his hands together in a gesture of respect. "May the winds guide you, and may the strength of your hearts see you through."
With that, the group turned toward the road leading out of the valley. The crowd parted, creating a wide path. Children waved small flags emblazoned with the symbol of the Dragon Warrior, while elders bowed in respect. People threw flower petals into the air, a cascade of color raining down as Po and his companions began their walk.
The pace was deliberate, their strides steady and purposeful. Po walked at the forefront, his face a mixture of determination and pride. Tigress and Tai Lung flanked him, their expressions mirroring his resolve. The rest of the Furious Six followed, each soaking in the moment in their own way.
As they walked, the crowd erupted into chants: "Dragon Warrior! Furious Six! Protectors of Peace!"
Po glanced at his friends, his usual humor tinged with a rare solemnity. "You know," he said, loud enough for only them to hear, "I always imagined this kind of send-off happening with, like, dumplings involved. Maybe a pie or two. But flower petals? Not bad."
"Focus, Po," Tigress muttered, though there was a faint smile on her lips.
As they reached the valley's edge, Po turned back for one final look at the crowd. He raised his arms dramatically, silencing the cheers. Then, with a booming voice, he declared, "Don't worry, everyone! I'll bring back a souvenir! Maybe a cannonball, or... I don't know, Shen's ridiculous robe. We'll see!"
The laughter rippled through the crowd, but it quickly gave way to a final cheer as the group passed beyond the gates.
Once the noise of the valley faded into the distance, the group walked in silence for a while, the weight of their mission settling on their shoulders. The open road stretched ahead, winding toward the horizon where Gongmen City awaited.
Po exhaled deeply, his usual humor giving way to something more profound. "You know, guys... that was kinda awesome. All those people, counting on us. Makes you feel... I don't know, important."
"You are important," Viper said gently. "We all are. That's why we're doing this."
Tigress looked ahead, her eyes sharp with determination. "And we won't let them down."
As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting long shadows across the road, Po and his companions pressed onward. Behind them, the Valley of Peace stood as a symbol of what they were fighting to protect.
