Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Fujiwara Tetsuya was holding his own in the taijutsu exchange with Kitsuchi, refusing to lose ground.
"This brat from Konoha is terrifying. If he survives, he'll undoubtedly become a major obstacle for Sunagakure," Rasa muttered as he watched the battle unfold. He felt a flicker of killing intent. Sunagakure—and by extension, the entire Land of Wind—was struggling. If they wanted to grow stronger, invading the Land of Fire was their only option. Konoha was the insurmountable wall they had to overcome.
"Earth Release: Earth Spikes!"
The moment Tetsuya leapt into the air, the ground beneath him erupted, sharp, jagged spires shooting up where he had been standing. If Tetsuya hadn't been so cautious and jumped just in time, those spikes would have skewered him.
"B-rank attack ninjutsu? Gotta admit, that's impressive," Tetsuya muttered as he gracefully landed on one of the stone spires, his eyes gleaming with envy. This was the benefit of having someone powerful backing you. With direct guidance from Onoki, Kitsuchi had no shortage of advanced jutsu to choose from. With enough talent, leveling up one's abilities was as simple as drinking water.
But for Tetsuya?
Without the system, the best he could've hoped for was learning a few C-rank jutsu at this stage.
"You coward! All you do is run. Is that the extent of Konoha's pride? Pathetic," Kitsuchi taunted, his voice dripping with disdain.
Tetsuya sized up his own smaller, more fragile frame. Kitsuchi's strength was nothing short of overwhelming, perhaps the strongest he had faced among all the chunin candidates. Getting up close and personal wasn't exactly on the table.
"Ha! Never thought a brute like you would stoop to using cheap taunts." Tetsuya grinned. "Ninja battles are about results, not some pointless process. Who cares how you win?"
"Lightning Release: Lightning Beast Tracking Fang!"
As the crackling beast of lightning formed in front of Tetsuya, those watching couldn't help but murmur in awe.
"What an intricate chakra control technique! That lightning wolf looks almost alive!" one of the onlookers whispered, clearly impressed.
"This is another new jutsu? Tetsuya is a fascinating kid," someone else added.
Having already displayed techniques like Chidori, the Water Prison, and now the Lightning Beast Tracking Fang, Tetsuya was full of surprises. Even Orochimaru, observing from a distance, couldn't hide the grin stretching across his face.
"Kitsuchi! Watch out! My lightning beast isn't something you can just shrug off," Tetsuya shouted, his fingers coursing with chakra as he sent the wolf charging toward his opponent.
"Is this jutsu a control-type technique?" some of the genin muttered, watching as Kitsuchi dodged the relentless pursuit of the lightning wolf.
"No," came a voice from the sidelines. It was Ay, the future Raikage. "It's not a control jutsu. This technique involves lightning chakra nature transformation, which is why it's automatically locking onto its target."
"Chakra nature transformation? You've got to be kidding, Ay. Even most of our Jonin can't master something like that. And this kid? There's no way!"
Ay crossed his arms and smirked. "Believe it or not, it's real. This Tetsuya kid is a prodigy. He has the potential to become Kage-level someday."
Ay's interest in Kitsuchi waned, his attention now fully focused on Tetsuya. As a master of lightning-style jutsu himself, the prospect of battling someone else with such a skill set was thrilling.
"I can't believe it... Chakra nature transformation?" Uchiha Mikoto and Aburame Muto were equally shocked, watching the battle with wide eyes. They had seen Tetsuya use the Lightning Beast Tracking Fang multiple times on missions, but they'd never realized it was this advanced.
"Earth Release: Earth Wall!"
Kitsuchi managed to block the wolf's assault at the last second, but the raging lightning left deep scars on the sturdy wall.
"That was close! It's nearly at the power level of a B-rank jutsu," Yellow Earth muttered, a slight tremor in his voice. "Earth Release: Rock Cannon!"
Taking advantage of the dust cloud, Yellow Earth spat out several small stones, which grew into boulder-sized projectiles mid-air, all hurtling toward Tetsuya.
"Rock Cannon, huh?" Tetsuya's eyes narrowed. He leapt backward to avoid the incoming assault.
"Water Release: Water Prison Technique!"
"I knew you'd use that jutsu!" Yellow Earth roared. As the water surged forward, he took the opportunity to close the distance between them, hands weaving seals faster than the eye could track.
"Earth Release Barrier: Earth Prison Dome!"
In an instant, thick slabs of rock erupted from the ground, forming an impenetrable dome around Tetsuya.
"Tetsuya, I acknowledge your strength. You've got the potential to surpass me one day, but that day is not today," Kitsuchi declared. "This battle is over. Admit defeat."
"This Earth Prison Dome is an unbreakable barrier. As long as I have chakra, I can reinforce any damage you deal to it. You'll never escape."
Outside the barrier, Kitsuchi continued funneling chakra into the structure, strengthening it with each passing moment.
The spectators shifted their gaze toward Kitsuchi, most of them assuming the match had been decided.
"Tetsuya…" Mikoto and Muto murmured, their faces reflecting the same worry. Could Tetsuya break free from such a powerful ninjutsu?
———
"A barrier-type jutsu, huh? Well, this is a first." Tetsuya smirked as his hand brushed the cold, solid rock of the dome. "I wonder if it can withstand a full-powered Chidori."
Without hesitation, Tetsuya raised his hand, summoning the piercing cry of thousands of birds as lightning chakra erupted from his palm.
"Lightning Release: Chidori!"
As his Chidori's proficiency had advanced to a higher level, the raw energy it unleashed now was even more overwhelming than before. The sharp screech of electricity filled the air, drawing all eyes to the dome.
"What's that sound? It's deafening!" someone gasped, their attention fully captured by the intense noise.
Boom!
In a blinding flash, the Earth Prison Dome shattered into countless pieces, debris scattering across the battlefield. Riding the explosion's momentum, Tetsuya surged forward, his Chidori crackling with dangerous intensity.
"Kitsuchi! It's over!"
The brilliant lightning consumed Kitsuchi's figure as he desperately tried to dodge, but it was too late. The Chidori struck him directly in the chest, though Tetsuya had managed to pull back at the last moment.
"Cough!" Kitsuchi spat out blood, crumpling to the ground from the impact. Even though Tetsuya had held back, the power of the A-rank lightning jutsu was not something to be taken lightly.
Watching his opponent struggle to rise, Tetsuya's expression softened. He dispersed the remaining lightning energy in his hand, ending the battle for good.
