Someone knocked gently on the car door. Skye looked at Michael in surprise, and he shrugged, "It seems that my premonition has come true this time."
Michael opened the door.
It was Phil Coulson, after all.
"Michael, Skye, hello. Let me introduce myself. My name is Phil Coulson, and I'm an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D." He said with a smile.
"Is there a problem?" Michael asked.
"How about we go somewhere else to talk?" Coulson suggested with a smile.
Michael and Skye exchanged glances before Michael nodded in agreement.
At first, Michael thought Coulson was referring to a nearby coffee shop, but to his surprise, Coulson took them directly to a plane. It was the same one from the TV series *Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.*, essentially a mobile base.
Michael noticed Coulson's antique car nearby. Of course, it only looked antique — in reality, it was equipped with high-tech features, such as hovering capabilities. He also spotted two other agents, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. He couldn't help but notice that Jemma was much more attractive than she appeared in the TV series.
"Please, take a seat."
After sitting down at the bar on the plane, Coulson got straight to the point, "I'm forming my own team, and this plane is our base. It's convenient, fast, and mobile. There aren't many like it."
"That's impressive." Michael nodded, "But I assume you didn't bring us here just to give us a tour of your base, right?"
"Of course not. I'm mainly here to talk about her." Coulson said, nodding toward Skye.
"She's a master hacker and a member of the Rising Tide organization. That group has repeatedly hacked into our system, stealing information and leaking it to the public. Most of that information isn't something the general public should know yet."
"Recently, more news about individuals with special abilities was leaked, which has caused us some concern. So, Miss Skye, I'd like to ask for your help."
"Help you? Why? What right do you have to hide this information? There are already so many people with special abilities and superheroes in this world. The public is aware of them." Skye argued.
Coulson nodded, "Yes, especially after the Battle of New York, the existence of superheroes became public knowledge. But this situation is different. The presence of a few superheroes makes people feel secure because they believe these heroes will help in times of crisis. But if there are too many, people won't feel secure anymore; they'll feel threatened."
"Like mutants?"
"Not exactly, but similar. The issue here is that if the public found out someone was deliberately trying to create super-powered individuals, the panic would be far worse. We've already seen a number of cases involving enhanced individuals."
"Our investigations suggest they were injected with some kind of serum, but it's flawed and causes them to self-destruct. Essentially, it's similar to the Extremis virus… It's possible someone got their hands on a sample and developed a new, unstable serum."
Coulson glanced at Michael when he mentioned the Extremis virus. Michael rolled his eyes, "Just say it. I didn't have anything to do with it."
Coulson quickly apologized, "Of course, I didn't mean to suggest you were involved, but this situation is threatening public safety. The perpetrators are elusive, and we've had no luck tracking them down. The Rising Tide's leaks have only added to the confusion, so…"
"So you're asking for my help? Sorry, but I wasn't the one responsible for any of this." Skye replied.
"I'm aware of that, but maybe you can help us find those responsible." Coulson said seriously.
"Maybe, but why should I help you?"
"Because it's a good way to clear your name. With your history in the Rising Tide, I could arrest you."
"You can try." Michael said, pulling out a lighter and smiling.
"We're currently flying at 6,000 meters. I don't know if you can fly, but I'm willing to take that chance." Coulson replied calmly.
Michael smirked, noticing the underlying tension despite Coulson's calm tone, "Are you threatening me?"
"No, I prefer to think of it as a sign of my sincerity. I have the authority to arrest you, but I don't want to. I'm asking for your help to stop this virus and save innocent lives." Coulson said earnestly.
"Fine, I'll help." Skye said suddenly.
"Skye, if you don't want to, no one can force you." Michael reminded her.
Skye nodded, "I know, but he's right. People are dying because of this. I don't know if these people chose this or were forced, but I think… we can help."
"Well, I guess I'll hold off on blowing this place up for now." Michael said with a sigh, glancing at Coulson. Then he grinned, "Don't worry, I'm just kidding."
"That's not funny." Coulson muttered with a wry smile.
Michael wasn't surprised by Skye's decision to help. First, Skye had a kind heart and couldn't easily ignore situations like this. Second, it was a good chance to integrate herself into S.H.I.E.L.D. — proving her worth would be the first step.
While Skye busied herself with the equipment on the plane, Michael found himself growing bored. Watching her work so diligently made him realize how skilled she was, especially with such high-end technology at her fingertips.
"If you're bored, I can have someone give you a tour of the plane." Coulson offered.
"I don't really understand all this tech, so I'm just waiting for news myself." He pressed the communicator in his ear, "Jemma, can you come here when you're free?"
Jemma arrived soon after, dressed in a white lab coat.
"Jemma, could you show Michael around?"
"Sure!" Jemma smiled warmly at Michael.
"Thank you for this." Michael said, smiling back. He was genuinely curious about the plane.
As Jemma guided him through the plane, she delved into various scientific topics. Unfortunately, Michael couldn't understand much of it, but her enthusiasm was infectious.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" Michael asked suddenly.
Jemma hesitated before shaking her head, "No. I was recruited straight out of the academy. I didn't really have the time or energy for relationships. What about you? Is Skye your girlfriend?"
"Yeah." Michael nodded.
"That's nice." Jemma said, a hint of envy in her voice, before quickly changing the subject, "I've read your file. You're quite mysterious. After absorbing the Extremis virus, you showed no adverse effects. Your genes might hold the key to suppressing the virus. If we could study them, we might save a lot of lives!"
She continued excitedly, but Michael remained indifferent, causing her to trail off, her voice growing quieter. Embarrassed, she added, "I'm sorry. You must hate this. Just forget I said anything."
Michael surprised her by shaking his head, "If it's just to take a blood sample, I don't mind. But… my blood isn't easy to get. So, if you want to study it, what's in it for me?"
"Really? You'd let me? That's fantastic! Tell me what you want." Jemma said excitedly.
Michael looked at her intently, "I want you."
Jemma blinked, confused, "W-What do you mean?"
"You're not willing? I thought you were ready to make sacrifices for science and for all those innocent people." Michael teased, shaking his head.
"If you really let me study your blood… I… I'd agree to your terms. But it has to be a fair exchange — one sample, one favor!" Jemma said, determined.
Michael had been joking, but her earnest response took him by surprise.
"All this for a blood sample?" He asked, curious.
"That's part of it… but there are other reasons." Jemma replied, her head lowered.
