Chapter 22: Chapter 22
Merlin gestured for Helios to follow him. "Come, let us begin your training. We will start by honing your connection to the light and teaching you the basics of combat," he said, leading the way up a set of stairs to a training area within the cottage that Helios was sure didn't exist the day before.
Merlin led Helios to a spacious training room, its walls lined with ancient tomes and mystical artifacts. In the center of the room, a large wooden table held various magical instruments and potions. The room was filled with an aura of anticipation and possibility.
"Now, Helios," Merlin began, "before we delve into combat training, it is essential that we explore the realm of magic. Magic will serve as a powerful ally in your battles against the Heartless."
Helios listened attentively, eager to expand his abilities. Merlin continued, "Magic comes in various forms, each with its unique properties. Tell me, Helios, what type of magic do you wish to learn? Would you prefer to focus on healing others, developing defensive spells like a shield, or offensive spells to wipe out your enemies?"
Helios recognized this as a test, a way for Merlin to gauge his intentions and character. He wasted no time thinking and responding, "I wish to learn magic that can help me support and protect others. If given the choice, I would like to learn healing magic to aid those in need. And if defensive spells are available, a way to shield myself and my allies would be invaluable."
A smile tugged at the corners of Merlin's lips, pleased with Helios' thoughtful response. "Excellent choice, Helios," he said, his voice filled with approval. "Let us begin with the basics. I will teach you the spell 'Cure' for healing and 'Aero' for defense."
Merlin guided Helios to the table, where a crystal vial containing a shimmering liquid awaited. "This vial contains the essence of Cure. It possesses the power to mend wounds and restore vitality," he explained, handing the vial to Helios. "To cast Cure, you must focus your intent on healing, channeling the magic through your heart and into your target. Try it now, Helios."
Helios held the vial, feeling its energy pulsating within. He closed his eyes, concentrating on the desire to heal and the well-being of others. As he channeled his intent, a soft glow enveloped his body from above, and a warm healing light embraced him, demonstrating the successful casting of Cure.
Merlin nodded approvingly. "Well done, Helios. You have a natural affinity for healing magic. With practice, you will be able to mend wounds and restore vitality to those in need. I'm surprised that you picked it up so fast."
Next, Merlin guided Helios to a different section of the room where a set of ancient runes were etched into the floor. "Now, let us focus on Aero, a spell that harnesses the power of wind to create a defensive barrier," Merlin explained. "To cast Aero, you must visualize a protective wall of wind forming around you or your allies. Feel the power of the air around you and channel it through your heart."
Helios followed Merlin's instructions, closing his eyes and immersing himself in the visualization. He could feel the energy of the air, the currents swirling around him. With a surge of concentration, he extended his hand, and a powerful gust of wind erupted beneath him causing him to crash into a nearby wall.
Merlin applauded Helios' progress. "Seems like you don't have a natural talent for defensive spells, Helios. This is the usual result for those that first practice magic. Keep practicing that spell and hopefully, your mastery of it shall increase not too long from now."
Helios nodded, determined to improve his skills in defensive magic. He acknowledged that mastery would require time and practice. He thanked Merlin for his guidance and expressed his commitment to honing his abilities.
Over the following weeks, Helios dedicated himself to rigorous training, diligently practicing the spells of Cure and Aero under Merlin's watchful eye. With each attempt, he became more attuned to the magic within him, refining his control and focus.
As time passed, Helios' proficiency with Cure grew, allowing him to heal minor wounds and ailments with ease. The warm glow of his healing magic brought relief to those he aided, instilling hope and gratitude in their hearts.
Though Aero presented more challenges, Helios persevered, determined to master the defensive spell. With each failed attempt, he learned from his mistakes, adjusting his visualization and focusing his intent. Gradually, he found himself able to conjure a protective barrier, albeit with limited duration and stability.
Merlin observed Helios' progress with satisfaction, providing guidance and encouragement along the way. He acknowledged Helios' determination and praised his growing skill in magic. "Well done in the last three weeks you've managed to master the basics of Cure and Aero. The more you use it the better the results so keep practicing. Now shall I teach you an offensive spell?"
Noticing the look in Merlin's eye when he mentioned offensive magic Helios shook his head and said, "No I'd like to learn to practice these two spells more and really get them down. I don't want to juggle more than I can handle."
Merlin nodded, impressed by Helios' wisdom and self-awareness. "Very well, Helios. It's important to focus on mastering the spells you have before moving on to more advanced techniques. Continual practice and refinement will undoubtedly strengthen your abilities."
Understanding the importance of consolidating his current skills and that he was always being watched, Helios spent the following weeks dedicated to honing his mastery of Cure and Aero. He delved deeper into the intricacies of each spell, experimenting with different techniques and variations to enhance their effectiveness. Although he never used it he was curious at what effect the spells would have if he mixed in darkness like he did with the Dark Firaga.
Kurai his dark companion had been silent these past few weeks simply hiding in his shadow without a word telepathically. It had warned him that Merlin was aware of all actions committed inside the house. Helios tried his best to alleviate Merlin's suspicion, but this interfered with his plans as he had been in Radiant Garden for weeks now and he hadn't laid eyes on neither Xehanort nor Ansem the Wise yet.
Helios decided to take advantage of Merlin's absence and go for a walk through the bustling streets of Radiant Garden. The city was a vibrant tapestry of lights and sounds, filled with the unfamiliar faces of background characters. It provided a temporary respite from his intense training and secret agenda.
As he strolled through the busy thoroughfare, a soft voice called out to him from behind. Helios turned around, his gaze falling upon a woman dressed in a beautiful pink dress with magenta lining and buttons running down the front. Her attire was adorned with meticulous care, with all the buttons fastened except for the last two. He recognized her immediately—it was Aerith, a familiar face from the game.
