Keeping the Promise After Rebirth

The shop was rather huge and had different sections depending on the type of jewelry, bags, clothes, and their respective prices.

While buying expensive gifts seemed to be the trend, she wanted to give her best friend something that showed her care. She had thought about designing something personally, but she decided to wait until her studio opened before doing that.

While Weiwei was browsing the items in the shop to find the perfect gift, a commotion started in the jewelry section. A shop assistant was berating a girl of about twenty-four years old wearing a clean but out-of-date beige Chanel blouse and faded jeans. One can tell that these clothes had been washed quite a few times.

"You shouldn't touch anything here since you can't afford it. What if you break it? Who is going to compensate us?" the store assistant questioned.

"But I was just examining the bracelet and I was very careful."

"What do you mean you were careful? You should not touch things you can't afford. What would happen if you accidentally dropped it?"

"I know the bracelet is expensive and that's why I was holding it so delicately. I just wanted to examine the pattern and workmanship closely, nothing more."

"You think we are here to let people examine jewelry, we are serving those who come here to buy, not beggars who cannot even afford clothes."

Weiwei couldn't stand the way the shop assistant was looking down on the girl simply because of her outdated clothes. It's not like she was naked or wearing tattered clothes, they were just out of date. But more importantly, she recognized the girl as someone who would shoot to fame in another three years as a jewelry designer. During an interview in her previous life, the girl had said that she finds inspiration from other people's work and nature.

She realized that the girl must be here to find inspiration, but she was still struggling and was not known by anyone yet. Weiwei saw this as an opportunity to recruit talent for her studio. Once her work shoots to fame, as a member of her studio, their company will also gain fame and opportunities to grow. With this thought in mind, Weiwei moved towards the commotion that had attracted quite a number of people, but no one stepped forward to help the girl.

In fact, most of them were pointing fingers at her and criticizing her for overestimating her worth by coming to a store such as Hermes's when she was so poor.

"Why do people overestimate themselves and enter any store without thinking about how much they are worth?" one customer complained.

"Indeed, she is just lowering the worth of the products in the store by coming here. I hate it when people try to raise their self-worth by damaging the atmosphere here."

"I bet she wants to go and brag to her poor friends about the designs of jewelry in the Hermes store. She probably wants to make others thin she is a rich heiress with her knowledge of luxury goods."

"Such a cheap trick, if it were me I would just hang myself and die instead of doing such meaningless things to increase my worth."

Weiwei moved to stand next to the girl and asked her, "Do you want the bracelet?"

The girl's name was Feng Tian. She raised her head to look at Weiwei expecting to see disdain and mockery, but she was shocked to instead see a bright pair of eyes filled with curiosity. This was the first time someone had seen her as an equal and not looked down on her just because of her status. Feng Tian did not know how to react for a moment as she was not sure whether Weiwei was being genuine or just acting so that she could make fun of her. But she still decided to answer her honestly.

"No, the design does not fit me and I also cannot afford it. I was just checking it to find inspiration."

Just as Weiwei had expected, Feng Tian was there to find inspiration for her jewel designs.

"Are you a jewelry designer?"

"I have designed some but I don't have the capital to produce them. So, I still can't call myself a designer yet."

"Well, you've put in the work and creativity, which makes you a jewelry designer already. I am studying jewelry design at Capital University. Do you mind if we find a place to sit down and chat?"

"No problem."

"Alright, let's go to the café across the street then."

As they turned around to leave, the people around them were also discussing them.

"Indeed, birds of a feather flock together. Both of them are wearing cheap and outdated products. No wonder they can get along so well."

"That is true, one is wearing outdated clothes, and the other's clothes and purse don't even have a label. It must be some imitation goods from a roadside stall."

While they were busy discussing, Xinya realized that Weiwei was about to leave and she had not gotten her bag yet. She went to stand in front of her to stop her from leaving.

"Weiwei, I haven't gotten my bag yet, how about you wait for me before leaving." She could not straight away ask her to pay, so she could only use this way to force her. However, she did not know that the Weiwei now was different from before. She would never spend a cent on her again.

"It's okay, we will just be sitting in the café across the street. Once you are done shopping you can come and find me there."

She then moved to the side to bypass Xinya and leave. But how can Xinya let her ATM card leave so easily? She moved again to stop her.

"How about using your card to pay for the bag first before leaving? I forgot to bring my credit card and the one I have has a limit of $100,000 so I can't pay for the bag. I will refund you once we get back."
