Chapter 349: Great Achievement
Little White Elephant sneered and said, "Then you must remember you owe me a good meal. Hmm, maybe you should write an IOU."
Chen Xiong originally wanted to rebuff, considering himself a commanding general who would hardly go back on his word. But seeing Little White Elephant's all-too-certain expression, he dismissed such thoughts. After all, it was wiser not to provoke this "ancestor" from Mountain Luoxia—the Chaos Demon King.
"Don't worry, I'll definitely treat you to a satisfying meal when the time comes."
Upon hearing this, Little White Elephant's eyes lit up. He patted Chen Xiong's thigh with great spirit and exclaimed loudly, "That's why you're the man, Big Brother! Da Hei and Ruyi True Immortal are just not reliable."
Chen Xiong did not join in the conversation. Who didn't know that these three beings nearly brought disaster to the whole Mountain Luoxia? Offending them was not an option for him, so he just chuckled and let it pass.
After a while, as Chen Xiong watched Little White Elephant fly away, he secretly heaved a sigh of relief. He had finally got rid of this troublemaker. His subordinates looked at him with adoring eyes; here was a man who dealt with immortals, surely a Star Immortal descended from heaven.
The fiery gaze of his soldiers made Chen Xiong somewhat embarrassed, but fortunately, his dark complexion helped hide his blushing face under the cover of night.
"Soldiers, we are blessed by immortals. This time, we will surely return in triumph. Let's move out!" Chen Xiong waved his hand and the troop continued their march.
With no Mountain Lord to hinder them, their pace quickened. Before long, they saw a distant troop. Countless torches formed a long Fire Dragon on the road, and the sound of squeaking carts echoed along the path.
Seeing this brought a smile to Chen Xiong's face. Timing could not have been better; it was exactly when the enemy was transporting supplies. His arrival was perfectly timed.
He gestured subtly, signaling everyone to keep hidden, waiting for the supply convoy to pass before striking them in the middle, rendering them unable to coordinate from head to tail.
When the supply train reached halfway, Chen Xiong gave the command. The cavalry suddenly sped up, charging directly at the supply convoy. The thundering sound of horse hooves rose. The supply general immediately sensed something was amiss, though he never suspected it to be the Chu Army; he thought they were just rampant bandits nearby.
A coarse face bore a fierce grin as he said, "Where do these audacious bandits come from, daring to challenge me? They must be tired of living. Men, prepare for battle, let these arrogant bandits know that although we are a supply convoy, we are also an elite force. These mongrels should not underestimate us."
As he arranged his formation, ready for a fierce slaughter, the sound of horse hooves grew denser by the minute. The sound was not something a few bandits' horses could make; it likely came from a large detachment of cavalry.
"Has the world gone mad? Do bandits have so many horses?" Even at this moment, he hadn't considered it could be the Chu Army attacking, since the Great Chu was besieged by the Allied Army, trapped and desperate—a city under siege hardly in a position to sortie.
"General, it's bad news, a detachment of elite cavalry has appeared in the distance!" a scout reported back, already wounded.
The supply general grabbed the scout's collar in excitement and shouted, "Are you sure? Where would a detachment of cavalry come from?"
"General, I saw it clearly and distinctly, definitely an elite cavalry, flying the banners of Great Chu. I had just approached when I was shot with an arrow, nearly losing my life," the scout explained, still terrified. He had nearly been shot dead; the murderous intent in the soldiers' eyes was palpable even from a distance, evidently an elite force.
"The Chu Army? That's impossible, aren't they besieged in the city? Could it be they've grown wings?" the supply general muttered to himself, his tone full of doubt. Chen Xiong's maneuver seemed like a divine intervention, making him feel as if in a dream.
However, being a seasoned general, he quickly grasped the situation and hurriedly ordered his men to prepare defenses. Just as he gave the command, Chen Xiong was already leading the cavalry charge.
At that moment, Chen Xiong began to demonstrate the prowess of a famous general, leading two thousand cavalry like a gust of wind. With just one encounter, he scattered the supply convoy. The supply general attempted to counterattack but was promptly unseated by Chen Xiong's lance, leaving him unconscious.
The remaining soldiers, seeing their general fall, lost all will to fight. They dropped their armor and fled in terror, while Chen Xiong did not linger in battle, instead torching all the supply and baggage, burning everything to the ground.
After cleaning up the battlefield, suddenly, someone brought a disheveled officer before Chen Xiong, shouting, "General, this man is the supply general, knocked unconscious and fallen from his horse by you, sir. He was trying to escape amidst the chaos, but I caught him right in the act."
The soldier was triumphant, for this was a great achievement. In the Chu Army, significant deeds could earn one land, and as the others saw this soldier's accomplishment, their eyes gleamed with envy.
"Excellent! I'll record a great achievement for you," Chen Xiong exclaimed in delight.
"Now I ask you, do you wish to live or die?"
"I wish to live, sir! I wish to live!" The supply general was inherently a coward, which was why he had taken up the supply role. Now, threatened by Chen Xiong, he immediately nodded desperately, begging for his life.
"If you wish to live, you must earn a great achievement. There is one right before you now, would you seize it?" Chen Xiong spoke solemnly, his eyes intently fixed on the supply general's eyes, a fleeting chill flashing within.
