Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao

Chapter 34: Going to Die

Seeing that the two Little Demons finally understood the Monkey's prowess, Lu Yu quietly wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

Heaven help him, he hadn't intentionally portrayed the Monkey as a fool; now he could only try to save face for the Monkey in this way. Otherwise, if that creature found out someday, it would be troublesome if it threw a tantrum.

So, with Lu Yu's words, the Meticulous Ghost and Clever Worm made up with each other, although their clothes were no longer in any presentable shape, which made Lu Yu's patrol team look rather shabby.

By the time the three had finished patrolling the mountain and returned to the Lotus Cave in the sunset, it immediately caused uproarious laughter.

"Lu Daye, how do you lead your underlings? How did you end up looking like this?"

"Haha, were you robbed by bandits? If that's really the case, then you've truly lost face for our Lotus Cave, even a Demon should know better."

"It's a wonder you even sit at the same table with us, can't even take care of a little underling, truly embarrassing."

For a time, the Demons in the cave started to ridicule Lu Yu to their hearts' content; after all, Lu Yu was much too eye-catching. By now, he was considered a favorite in front of Golden Horn and Silver Horn, and these Demon leaders had long been jealous of him. Seizing such an opportunity, they would not let it go easily.

Lu Yu glanced around at the Demon leaders and committed their faces to memory, planning to find an opportunity to properly teach these fellows a lesson.

The Meticulous Ghost and Clever Worm had never seen such a scene and were already too frightened to speak.

Golden Horn and Silver Horn sat comfortably at the top of the cave, leisurely drinking fine wine, completely indifferent to the commotion below. To them, even the most outstanding Little Demon was just that—a Little Demon—not worth their significant attention. Lu Yu was only slightly more noteworthy.

Just then, a Little Demon guarding the gate came to report that the Centipede King from neighboring Golden Cave had come to issue a challenge.

"What kind of ignorant wretch dares to run wild in front of our gates? I'm bored out of my mind today; I'll use him for some practice," the Silver Horned King said with a chuckle, rubbing his hands together.

"Big brother, don't fight over it with me this time!"

Golden Horn took a sip of the fine wine in his hand and said with a smile, "I won't fight with you today, but don't be careless. There are many with Divine Skills in the wilds, don't end up capsizing in a gutter and become a laughingstock of the three realms."

Silver Horn, however, laughed heartily and said, "Rest assured, big brother, I'll be back in a jiffy."

Silver Horn, holding his weapon, led the group out, with Lu Yu among them.

Once they left the Lotus Cave, they saw a dark-faced Demon, burly and tall with a dusky complexion, his face boasting fearsome backwards-pointing spines that glittered eerily in the sunset.

In his hands, he wielded two Giant Axes, and behind him a large flag fluttered in the wind, inscribed with the words "Centipede King," though the writing was clearly not by a skilled hand, all crooked and ugly to look at.

However, the unsightly writing did not affect the Centipede King's confidence as he raised his Giant Axe, pointed at the Silver Horned King, and said arrogantly, "Are you the Demon King of Lotus Cave, that old fox's godson?"

"You may address me as the Silver Horned King!" Silver Horn looked at the Centipede King with disdain in his voice as he spoke.

"Silver Horned King, the Great King stands before you; surrender quickly, cede Flat Top Mountain to me to avoid a clash of arms and needless loss of life."

The Silver Horned King was amused by this so-called Centipede King's foolishness; he had no idea where such a daft creature had come from, utterly ignorant of his own impending doom.

"Flat Top Mountain is right here, if you have the ability, take it from my hands." His smile fading, Silver Horn's face showed cold murderous intent as his eyes fixed on the Centipede King, a tangible aura of death that made the Centipede King feel the chill.

But the Centipede King was no easily frightened individual; seeing Silver Horn's demeanor, he was not scared in the slightest, but instead, he said boldly, "Since that's the case, don't blame me for being impolite, my minions, follow me into battle!"

As he gave the order, the little demons behind him immediately charged forward, shouting various slogans.

Lu Yu's side of little demons were naturally not to be outdone, rushing forward with raucous cries.

The scene instantly turned into a chaotic mess, as the performance of these little demons was too jarring for the eyes, lacking any semblance of discipline, and dissolving into mindless brawling upon the clash.

In the midst of the fight, they couldn't even distinguish their own teammates and just hit anyone they saw.

Outside Lotus Cave, dust rose into the air, and all kinds of roaring filled this small piece of the world, enlivening the once peaceful mountain peak suddenly.

Lu Yu was also in the fray, picking up a large bluestone and smacking it down on anyone he didn't like the look of, as if to practice his brick smashing technique.

Though he had concealed his true power, dealing with these inferior little demons was still very easy for him, especially in such unorganized skirmishes where he thrived completely.

As for the commanders who had mocked him earlier, Lu Yu did not let a single one off, knocking them all down with the stone.

Seeing the little demons now lying on the ground wailing, Lu Yu couldn't help but feel he overestimated the quality of these demons.

Forget the Heavenly Soldiers and Heavenly Generals, these little demons were not even a match for the monkeys of Huaguo Mountain; they were simply a motley crowd.

However, the war of the little demons could not sway the outcome of the battle, only the victory of the Demon King signified real victory.

At that moment, the Silver Horned King and the Centipede King were already locked in combat, one wielding a Giant Axe, the other a Treasured Sword, their weapons clashing in the air, ringing out with a metallic sound.

Relying on his great strength, the Centipede King swung his giant axe at the Silver Horned King in a fierce and relentless barrage.

However, after the move with such grandeur ended, he took a closer look and, to his astonishment, had not injured the Silver Horned King at all.

Disbelieving, he raised his giant axe and began another round of battle.

Yet, what felt like a rapid storm of attacks amounted to nothing more than a gentle breeze on the Silver Horned King, failing to inflict even the slightest damage.

Instead, the Centipede King, panting and gasping, was kicked around by the Silver Horned King, tumbling all over the place.

"Ducking and dodging, what kind of hero does that? Fight me head-on if you dare," the Centipede King said furiously.

The Silver Horned King, however, found little interest in such an easy opponent, for such bullying brought him no pleasure, so he decided to put an end to this farce.

"I would hate to dirty my sword by killing you," said the Silver Horned King as he sheathed his treasured sword and took off a red gourd from his waist, smiling and asking, "If I call you, do you dare to respond?"

The Centipede King, seething with rage, replied, "Who do you think you're looking down on? I dare respond to anything."

Amused by the foolish bravado of the Demon King before him, the Silver Horned King uncovered the mouth of the gourd and called out, "Centipede King!"

The Centipede King immediately responded loudly, "Here I am!"

Suddenly, a tremendous suction force came from the gourd, instantly whisking him inside.
