Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao

Chapter 314 Forest of Death

Thinking of this, Arthur's heart suddenly tightened. Demons, as the legends told, were adept at toying with human hearts, often delighting in destroying the most beautiful things in people's lives and reveling in slaughter and plunder.

However, no matter how he looked, the man before him didn't resemble a demon at all. Thus, he mustered the courage to ask Lu Yu, "Are you the demon from the legends?"

"Demon?" Lu Yu was immediately baffled. When had he ever been associated with a demon? This world seemed a bit strange, feeling out of place from the Three Realms, with many things vastly different.

An alien world wouldn't appear without reason, and that power which even made him feel palpitations should be the source. But he was a stranger in these parts and without mana, finding this hidden source would not be easy.

But the anxious Arthur seemingly failed to notice the oddity in Lu Yu, and instead dropped to his knees with a thud, not caring if the person before him was a dreaded demon. As long as he could reclaim all that was his, what harm was there in selling his soul to a demon.

"I am willing to make a pact with you and sell my soul to you, as long as you help me recover everything."

Lu Yu quietly observed Arthur's performance, forming some guesses about the situation. He had been worried about not having a good entry point to explore this world. This man named Arthur seemed like a fine choice.

With a gesture, the power of his Soul surged forth, condensing into a sheet of white paper in the void, filled with dense stipulations, glowing golden in the air.

It was Arthur's first time seeing a demon's contract, different from what he had imagined. The air seemed to be filled with a holy presence, nothing like the evil and terrifying demon.

Looking at the affable Lu Yu, Arthur bit his lip and pressed his finger to the paper, his mind suddenly filled with information about the function of the contract.

"Huh!" After he finished reading the contract, he was surprised to find it was not as harsh as he imagined, but rather seemed very fair.

However, he had heard that demons are masters of disguise. Perhaps what he saw was not the real contract, but a facade created by the demon.

But now, with no other options, he could only hope that this demon was not as cruel as the stories claimed.

Lu Yu simply smiled, watching every move Arthur made. The young man had not yet learned to conceal his thoughts, his rich inner turmoil completely displayed on his face for Lu Yu to see. He didn't plan to explain; he thought, let Arthur remain mistaken about him being a demon, as it didn't interfere with his plans.

"Since we've signed the contract, you can naturally get my help. Tell me, what do you want me to do for you?" Lu Yu said in a good mood.

Upon hearing this, Arthur fell into contemplation. He had only thought about running away with all his might to save his own life and had not made many plans, but now he had a different idea.

Suddenly, countless pieces of information flashed through his mind, and he quickly found what he needed. It was a treasure hidden in the depths of the forest, belonging to his ancestors. It should contain the means for his own resurgence.

"Please, Mr…" Arthur stumbled for words, not knowing how to address the demon before him.

"Just call me Mr. Lu." Lu Yu offered, seeing his embarrassment, with a smile.

"So it's Mr. Lu." Arthur said with an awkward smile, secretly thinking, "Are the names of demons always so unusual?"

"According to the contract, Mr. Lu, you have to ensure my safety, no matter how dangerous the place, right?" Arthur quickly asked the question he cared about most.

"That's right, that's what's written in the contract." Lu Yu nodded.

Relieved by the answer, Arthur thought, 'This is good. My idea can be realized.' So, he hurriedly said, "In that case, I plan to venture into the depths of the Forest of Death and ask for your protection, Mr. Lu."

"No problem, since I promised you, I will keep my word."

Lu Yu began the adventure into the Forest of Death with Arthur, while outside in a domain, a man in a black robe received the news of the death of those who pursued Arthur.

The man had a slender build, with dull yellow hair, deep-set eyes, and heavy dark circles, all signaling to others that his health was poor. But strangely enough, this seemingly frail person was now the lord of the domain.

"I didn't expect him to flee into the Forest of Death. It's said that demons live there. Should I just leave it be?" The man in black murmured to himself.

No sooner had he spoken than a pitch-black figure appeared behind him, as if an embodiment of all the evil in the world. Its presence alone could stir the malevolence lurking in people's hearts.

"Hehe, rest assured, there are no demons in that Forest of Death," the dark figure said in a grating, metallic voice, very unsettling to hear.

Yet the man in black appeared to be deaf to it, acting as if he hadn't heard the sound at all, and simply nodded lightly, "That's good. It's more comforting for people to think that Arthur is dead."

"You distrust me? How could a mere mortal be your match? Don't forget, you are the one who has a contract with me."
