Journey to the West: Treasure Vase of the Great Dao

Chapter 221 Poison

Hurriedly, he stowed away the Treasured Garment to avoid it being burnt by Lu Yu's True Fire and said with reluctant defiance, "I never imagined that after all these years, you would have cultivated such a Fire Technique." Lu Yu's lips curled into a cold sneer. He said nothing in response, but his movements became even swifter. The piercing Sword Qi surged towards the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes like a tide, leaving him struggling to cope. Even though the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes exerted all his strength to block Lu Yu's Sword Qi, constant defense was bound to fail. A cut appeared on his face, and fresh blood seeped out. The moment this blood encountered the air, it instantly turned a dark green color, and a pungent, foul odor arose. When Lu Yu smelled this odor, he instantly felt dizzy and was taken aback. "Haha, how does it feel?" The Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes's voice reached Lu Yu's ears. At that moment, Lu Yu's vision was blurry, and the figure of the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes multiplied and swayed before him. "Ever since I learned of your achievement as a Human Sage, I haven't rested for a day. It took countless efforts to create this poison," the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes babbled on, as if intent on venting the anxieties and hardships of this time period—or perhaps, another reason was to wait for the poison to seep deep into Lu Yu's bones. "Then you really have had it tough!" Lu Yu let out a soft sigh and said, sensing the grievances and hardships articulated in the words of the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes, but he felt not a shred of sympathy. The wailing of the Lost Souls killed by the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes still resonated on this mountain. The dense resentment almost reached Lu Yu's eyes—a special ability he gained after becoming the Human Sage. To him, the resentment of the human race shone brightly, like light bulbs emitting intense light. After Lu Yu finished speaking, he seemed to shift his figure slightly, and his whole being appeared to become ethereal. A flash of light passed over as his vision suddenly cleared, and he silently admonished himself, realizing that he had been too smooth-sailing recently, leaving him somewhat arrogant. Had it been in the past, the moment he saw the change in the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes's blood, he would have summoned the Treasure Vase to protect his body. Now, however, he stood calmly, allowing the poison to spread. He took a deep look at the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes. Indeed, demons who had made a name for themselves in 'Journey to the West' were not easy to deal with. The poison skills of the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes indeed showed signs of forming a unique school of their own. Were it not for his exposure to the River of Destiny and time, combining his practice of Water Arts, comprehending the Divine Skills of 'Illusory Flowers Reflective Moon,' and extending it to have this ability to switch places with time shadows, he would have capsized in the gutter this time. The Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes also noticed the change in Lu Yu. Even though he didn't know how it was accomplished, he could clearly sense that the poison in Lu Yu's body had eerily vanished. "How did you do that?" In this moment, the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes was filled with confusion. This poison was his painstaking creation, involving the selection of countless poisonous insects and numerous revisions of the refining method to craft such bone-eating venom—one that would spread rapidly once inside a body and penetrate the bones, a poison so potent that no one, no matter how profound their mana, could expel it with their power. Thus, seeing Lu Yu fall victim, the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes was brimming with confidence. He even began to fantasize about how his name would spread wildly throughout the Three Realms after killing Lu Yu, using conversation in the meantime to buy time, hoping the poison would successfully infiltrate into the bones. And just as he expected, in no time at all, Lu Yu's face started to turn a dark bluish-black, confirming that the poison had reached his marrow, and his subsequent performance seemed to announce this fact. Unexpectedly, after a strange blue light flashed, Lu Yu eerily recovered. The Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes didn't even know where the poison he administered had gone—it was as if it had vanished into thin air. "This is a secret." Lu Yu said with a sly smile, how could he possibly tell him this method. "Damn it!" The Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes roared, green toxic gas continuously burst forth from his body, enveloping the entire Taoist Temple in an instant. The trees surrounding the temple disintegrated into ash the moment they came in contact with the toxic gas, which highlighted the potency of the poison. But Lu Yu was not about to underestimate his opponent again. He had already summoned the Treasure Vase of the Great Dao, which hovered above his head, casting down a golden light that formed a barrier. The green toxic gas crashed against the golden barrier like gigantic waves, yet it could not break through. Although fizzling sounds emitted from the surface of the barrier, there was no sign of any weakening. Naturally, this was the combination of Lu Yu's Light of Merit and Treasure Light, impervious to blades and spears, immune to water and fire, and impenetrable by all poisons. "Your moves are finished, now it's my turn!" Lu Yu said softly. The Treasured Sword rose, a dazzling sword light spanning the sky, rushing straight towards the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes. The Demon Lord excelled in poison skills, but his physical body was average. Confronted with the piercing Sword Intent, he quickly donned his Taoist Robe. A flash of rainbow light passed by, and endless Sword Qi was blocked outside the Treasured Garment, unable to harm him in the slightest. However, there was not the slightest hint of joy on his face because the Fire Technique of Lu Yu followed closely behind. A ferocious Fire Dragon opened its maw wide and attacked him. The Demon Lord chanted a Spell, and the earth began to churn. Shortly after, several giant poisonous insects erupted from the ground. Each one was massive and bloated, covered in bright, variegated colors, dripping with transparent mucus that looked utterly disgusting. The mucus that fell on the Green Stone Slab sizzled, produced light smoke, and easily corroded a hole through the thick stone. These were the Demon Lord's achievements over the years, selectively bred from various poisonous insects and enhanced with the Gu Poison Refining Art, serving as his suppliers of toxins. Always treating them as his most cherished treasures, he nonetheless summoned all these queen insects without hesitation in order to face Lu Yu. One of the insects, similar to a silkworm, spat out green poison towards the Fire Dragon. The two forces met in midair, producing a loud noise. The green toxic gas instantly dispersed into the air, corroding countless objects into ash. The Taoists watching from afar were panicked and hastily retreated; they dared not inhale even a breath of this poison, for fear that they would be corroded to skeletons in an instant. Lu Yu stood amidst the poison gas with the Treasure Vase over his head, impervious to all arts; the surrounding toxic gas did not concern him in the slightest. With a swing of his sword, a poisonous insect's head was instantly severed, spewing green blood that in an instant polluted the entire area. However, the darting Fire Dragon was also blocked and could not reach the Demon Lord of a Hundred Eyes, who let out a light breath of relief. The pressure Lu Yu was putting on him was so great that his mind had been in a state of high tension.
