Journey to the Summit: The Rise of a Enigma

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Preparation

Chapter 3: Preparation

Inside the classroom, Nux hung his head low. The professor, Mrs. Linda, had just finished scolding him. She was currently teaching when a latecomer came and barged into her room.

Max wasn't here because he is at the other room, but his classmate sitting next to him, laughed slightly at he misfortune he had received. In this world, 1 week is equivalent to 10 days, and 1 month is equivalent to 5 weeks. A year has 10 months in the calendar, meaning a year has 500 days.

In school, there are only three days of teaching. The first day for Magic, the second day for History and the third day for Battle. The rest of the 7 days were up for the students to do whatever they want!

This gives them more time to get stronger without being hindered by their studies. Furthermore, cultivation takes a long time and with students having less time to cultivate because of school, they'll be hindered by a huge margin.

Nux and his 21 other classmates, listened attentively to the discussion. Today, Mrs. Linda was teaching them about the basic of chanting.

"Now, it is general knowledge that basic elemental skills doesn't require chanting, those at the advance level do."

After that, she wrote a long line of symbol on the board in front of her.

"This is a chant, although it isn't a skill, you can practice on this." She continued. "I want you all to slowly gather mana to your palm while chanting this chant."

Everyone stood up, their arms extended. Nux followed suit, slowly gathering mana from the blue ring towards his palm. Doing so was no means an easy task. It requires full attention and complete focus.

A few seconds after Nux started chanting, a blue circle appeared before his palm. On the outer and inner edge, a curved line of runic symbols appeared.

This was a magic circle. Mrs. Linda, upon seeing Nux was shocked! 'What a monstrous comprehension!' She thought inwardly, amazed at Nux talent. Meanwhile, his other classmate were struggling.

They were gathering mana at their palm, some were fast, leading to failure. The rest were having problems controlling their mana.

'This is what separates a genius from average students.' She wasn't disappointed, these kids were newly awakened, Nux was just built different from the rest.

Her gaze lingered on Nux, whose eyes were fixated on the board, mouth slowly chanting, and in deep focus.

30 minutes later, Nux didn't show any signs of stopping. His classmates, some had already given up, eyeing him with various emotions such as admiration, respect and envy. Some were still trying, yet showed no signs of success.

Then Nux stopped. His mouth was already tired from chanting, his arms sore from being in the air for a long time.

"Alright everyone, that's enough for today." Her voice echoed throughout the room. "Nux, congratulations for achieving what other cannot do in a short time. The rest, line up in front of me, I'll spend the remaining day helping you all fix your mistakes."

Nux smiled, inwardly he was very pleased with himself for such an outstanding performance. As everyone lined up towards the teacher, they were expecting a scolding. But Mrs. Linda was different. Not only was she gentle, she told them their mistakes and how to fix it.

As for Nux, he was long out of the room. This Academy, known as Valoria Academy is a part of a small kingdom, Kingdom of Valoria. His father, Zirius Bloodbane, is a Duke of a neighboring kindom, much much bigger than the Kingdom of Valoria.

The reason he was sent to a smaller kingdom was because his father wanted him to be strong and confident, but not arrogant. The young masters of noble families, are all a bunch of arrogant and narrow minded brats. Zirius does not want his sons and daughters to become like them, hence he chose to send them in places that are for commoners. Yes, only he, Nux, was the only noble blood here.

As Nux walked through the hallways, he would often looked at the rooms, where other students tries their hardest. It's currently 9 am, and he still has a long time to spare.

"Guess I'll spend the day in the Dungeon." He said, walking towards the Dungeon Portal.

— Dungeon —

After Nux entered the portal, he appeared at a place than yesterday. Before going here, he went back to his dorm, putting on his equipment. No longer a vast plain, but a much more dangerous and darker place.

The trees around him had withered, their trunks and branches ashen in color. Despite this look, these woods are incredibly tough. And so were the enemies lurking in the area.

His gentle, childish gaze was replaced with a sharp, wary eyes. It seems he could no longer afford to be complacent like yesterday, he chuckled at this thought.

His steps were slow and steady, not making much noise. His eyes wandered around, looking for any enemies.

Found it!

A meters away from him, a lone wandering grey wolf appeared. With his dagger on right hand, skill being prepared in left hand, he was prepared to face his enemy.

The wolf charged at him, it's claws and teeths ready to tear him apart. The two met and clashed, with the wolf in the offensive. Nux, wanting to test something out of curiosity, was on defensive.

Whenever the wolf swipe it's claws at him, he would parry it with his dagger. The impact was slowly making him lose focus, but he still decided to gather mana on his left.

It is possible to increase the strength of a skill, by feed it more mana. The ball of darkness in his hand was comparably bigger and denser than yesterday.

Crack!

Nux fired the Ball of Darkness at point blank range, he wanted to make it more bigger. Regrettably, his dagger broke against the continous onslaught from the grey wolf.

The poor wolf was obliterated by the Ball of Darkness, leaving only a greyish, monster core. It wasn't even able to dodge or fight back.

"Dungeon exit." After picking up the spoil of the battle, Nux decided to exit. He can but would not fight without a weapon, as that would be akin to suicide.
