Chapter 8: The Speed Wagon Foundation Dynamics
"I get that you manifested your Stand when you were getting robbed, but you're leaving out something important... What can it do?"
Rosalina and Ethan sat across from each other in the cafeteria.
On their way there, Ethan had explained the basics of the robbery and how his Stand had manifested, but he avoided going into detail, barely giving her anything solid to work with.
Ethan looked at her with unease and said:
"It has a 5-meter range, and it can open doors to places I've been too before, but only for a limited duration. What can yours do?"
Ethan knew full well that he could use GateKeeper as much as he wanted and that Ethereal Divergence had a 10-meter range.
However, he didn't know Rosalina well enough to trust her with all the details.
Instead, he gave her just enough to work with, keeping his trump cards close to his chest.
"A close range humanoid stand huh... It's very useful huh" Thought out loud Rosalina while looking at Ethan as she continued:
"My stand is a short range stand called Prism Alchemy and it's ability is Liquid Transmutation"
She then began to Explain to Ethan that Prism Alchemy allows her to transform any liquid into a solid state without freezing it or altering its mass.
The solid retains the liquid's visual and tactile properties but becomes durable and moldable.
Ethan looked at her with a confused expression and said:
"I don't understand... it's illogical"
"Heh, it doesn't have to be," chuckled Rosalina as she continued:
"I can turn water into spears stronger than diamonds or turn oil into slick bullets that travel faster than the speed of sound... it's pretty versatile, really."
Ethan looked at her with a gaze of envy, it was pretty clear that she was talking from experience, experimentation and growth.
Rosalina's stand is very flawed but when used by someone who thinks outside the box, it becomes very dangerous.
"I am sure talking about stands is not the only reason you would want to talk so why are you here... what do you want "
Ethan looked at her with a skeptical gaze and said:
"What is a Hamon master, vampire hunter, and... how do vampires exist?"
Rosalina's eyes widened in surprise.
"How do you know about that... that kind of information is hidden from the public?"
She quickly stood up, Prism Alchemy manifested in a fluid, crystalline form.
Her gaze hardened as she locked eyes with Ethan:
"Explain yourself."
In response, Ethereal Divergence manifested beside Ethan, asserting dominance over the situation.
Ethan met her gaze, unfazed:
"I killed a vampire who mentioned these things," he said coolly, "so I was interested in knowing more."
"First the robbers, now vampires... are you a trouble magnet?" Rosalina sighed as she sat down. "If you want answers, provide me with more information. It's an equivalent exchange."
Ethan began to talk about Lilian, the Sky Gang, and Krowe, purposely leaving out details about his parents and the ultimate vessel holding the codex.
"I see, Vampire hunters are like Rudol von Stroheim they use ultraviolet technology to fight vampires.
It's tech originating from Germany," she said, pausing before adding, "Hamon is energy akin to the Sun's rays, generated by controlled breathing.
It manifests as ripples of energy flowing from the bloodstream throughout the body, extending to objects in contact with it, it's toxic to vampires"
Ethan looked at Rosalina and said, "They're two things that achieve the same result. Why not stick to one?"
Rosalina simply sighed and said, "Vampire hunters may be slower in terms of speed and strength, but they're more abundant than Hamon users."
She paused for a moment before continuing, "Hamon is capable of extending life and decelerating aging, but it relies on compatibility and proficiency.
It's more effective compared to vampire hunters, meaning one is good for quick results, while the other requires a lot more effort but provides more benefits"
Ethan pondered for a while and said:
"It sounds like vampire hunters have more advantages in combat because without breathing a Hamon user is useless"
Rosalina looked around, then moved closer to Ethan, whispering in his ear. "True, but the Speedwagon Foundation studied the cells of a Pillar Man called Santana while researching how plants photosynthesize."
She paused, her voice dropping lower. "It was later discovered that plants not only use Hamon, but can also store it in their cells.
After studying the Pillar Man's cells matrix, they found that humans could do the same though the odds are one in a hundred million."
Ethan nodded in understanding as he looked at her and asked, "Why... are you whispering?"
"This is classified information," she replied, then looked into his eyes. "Now that you have such information, what are you planning to do? I can see a spark of vengeance in your eyes."
Ethan simply looked at her and asked, "Are you a Hamon user too? Can Stand users learn Hamon?"
"Am I a Hamon user? Barely," she answered. "As for your second question, yes..it was discovered in the recorded files of Joseph Joestar. It's similar to how vampires can use Stands... and don't avoid my question."
Ethan paused for a moment, then asked: "Where do you get all this information? How are you so well-informed?"
Rosalina gave him a knowing look, with a cunning glint in her eyes. "I'm part of the Paranormal Division of the Speedwagon Foundation.
I can access military-level classified information if I have enough merit to do so. Now, back to the question you're trying to avoid...what are you planning?"
'Well, we already have a bond of sharing information... she might be helpful in the long run.'
"I plan to invade one of the Sky Gang's warehouses. It has a server that could give me the information I need," Ethan replied, his voice steady. "I'll keep doing this until I find a lead on something I want."
Rosalina regarded him for a moment, then asked, "When?"
"Tonight," Ethan replied quickly. "I won't be coming to school tomorrow since Mrs. Smith won't be there." He paused, then added, "Why???"
"Because I am going with yo..."
"Because I am going with you..." Rosalina began, but Ethan quickly interrupted, "NO," surprising her.
She raised an eyebrow, not expecting the reaction. "I didn't say please, I said I am going with you. I bought you lunch and gave you classified information, so you owe me," she continued, her tone unwavering.
Then, with a sly smile, she added, "You might have won a few times, but that was beginners' luck... You need me."
Ethan's eyes twitched with frustration. He knew she was right, but instead, he simply asked, "How does what I'm planning to do benefit you... what do you want?"
Rosalina looked at him with a smile that was both knowing and smug. "I've been seeking information on the Sky Gang for my mission, and you just handed it to me on a silver platter. This shows that if I leech off you, I'll succeed."
She met his gaze with a piercing look and added, "Don't look for me. I'll find you."
Then, without another word, she shamelessly stood up and walked away, leaving Ethan bewildered in her wake.
