Chapter 16: #16 - Powering Up
As I tried to think what could've gone different in my fight, school came to an end.
The girl didn't follow Jack and I this time.
She's being more careful now, that's weird, considering we haven't done anything yet.
Well, talking about the fight i have come to some conclusions.
First, It doesn't matter if i prepare extremely against vampires, since i really won't be seeing them as much, if anything, the only way they could help me is by acting as a sparring partner, but Jack is better.
Now that i think about it, i should level him up a bit...
Second, the eyes laser thingy was the only thing fast enough to do any damage to me, and if just a slight touch was able to burn my skin to the point of bleed, then it could kill me in no time.
For that, i should develop some sort of armor or protection, shouldn't be too hard if i change the ripple's nature from energy to liquid and then solid.
Third, i realized that i kinda don't have too many attack options, i mean, hamon is really versatile, but i have only been using it as a damage enhancer.
In the fight, the only thing i did with my hamon was make it into a shortsword and spreading it in the ground.
I mean, most of the skills revolve around gathering hamon in a point, then releasing in some manner.
For example, Zoom punch, is just dislocating the arms to gain more reach, good against vampires, since they have to be in the constant defensive as they can't regen from the sun-powered attacks.
But in the reverse, it's just a normal punch against anything other than vampires, sure a hamon enhanced punch, but that's the normal state of my punches in a fight.
The only technique that i remember and might be useful, would be the Scarlet Overdrive.
But that's just changing the nature of hamon by condensing it a lot, which I already do with my Dawn.
Still, that doesn't mean changing the nature of hamon is useless.
Imagine making a flammable gas with hamon, sure a bit overboard, but if i change it from energy to liquid, then gas, and i follow the same principle with scarlet overdrive...
What would that give me? Napalm?
How about changing the state to gas and the nature to earth?
Would that give it enought density to make a cloud curtain?
The states of matter are liquid, gas, solid and plasma.
The base state of Hamon is energy in form of electricity.
While the elements of nature are fire, wind, water and earth.
That gives me 20 combinations at a bare minimum.
Wait, plasma it's gas that conducts electricity, so it can conduct hamon at it's base state really well, but probably conflict with the other elements...
Well, I'll figure that later.
Now I'll drag Jack to the mansion with me.
And test out my not yet found powers.
---|---
Focusing my hamon in one part, it gains a bright-red color and...
*Boom*
My fist hits against Jack's stomach, taking his breath out and sending a bit away.
Not only that, his clothes are a bit scorched, not enough to kill him or give him a pemanent injury, but enough to make him feel pain from the heat.
I catch my breath.
I may have landed a direct hit, but I'm way worse than him.
My hands and arms are also burned, not by my own hamon.
"Why are you down?, this was the only good hit i gave you." I tell him.
"Theatrics, and i just realized how much does it hurt, now i'm feeling kinda bad for the ones i gave you."
He says all of it with a smile on his face.
He sits, and i sit a bit away from him, trying to meditate and circulate my hamon
We're training two things now.
First, Im trying to make jack stop thinking while he transforms the hamon.
He can get it to change, but with considerable effort, and only the state, not the element.
He can do the scarlet overdrive though, but since he can only do it by compressing his hamon, his hands get hurt after a while, basically a dmg buff that takes your hp.
Second, i'm trying to improve martial arts, so i'm only using the nature change in my decisive blows.
Sure, i will mostly use Dawn in fights, but i would rather leave it hidden before popping it as a hidden card.
I realized that i tend to overthink every action(Shocking, isn't it?) which makes me doubt at moments where my options are many.
When that assassin threw the box at me, there were too many options to take, so i just went with a punch.
But i could've done better, if i had dodged it, if i had ducked, if i had jumped...
When he jumped at me, I should've heard or felt the air displacement and grabbed his kick
I could've even rolled in the ground and that kick wouldn't have hit me.
I think i'm lacking in spatial awareness but i can't really train that efficiently, so i'm training myself to be able to react to every situation, sounds easy, but it's way harder than it sounds.
Imagine you're reading a romance book in a modern day setting, coffee shops, smartphones, planes and all of that modern day stuff.
But then an ancient dragon awakens and destroys the country where the two leads live, burning them alive.
Then it ends, like that, described in 3 lines of text.
It's a silly example, but what i'm trying to say is that this world's abilities are really versatile.
Like for example, while i was talking, Jack just rotated the fire-type hamon in his hand to make a sphere.
Dude just created a rasengan out of fire, it's not really fire, more like fire flavored hamon.
But still.
He's even grinning too.
As if he's already imagining how much is going to hurt me when it hits me directly.
And i can't even create swords because that's definitly going to kill him, Dawn is too sharp, a wooden sword breaks, a metal sword is too sharp...
What am i supposed to hit him with?
A stone sword?
Wait, a blunt sword?
But he's going to dodge anyways.
He's too fast for anything big enough to harm him.
Whatever, i'll just stick to one-two.
---|---
"Young master, I understand that you have liberty to do your....business without restrictions, but please consider the feelings of those around you."
Said Maria, who noticed me limping a bit.
To which she proceeded to inspect my body and find out about the numerous burn and bruise marks in my body.
What she just said basically translated to: "If your dad finds out about your injuries, my head will be on his desk by the end of the week"
A bit dramatic in her part, but i can't blame her.
How many 13 year olds come with this much damage to his body from a little playing?
"You don't have to worry about it, my body is naturally resistant and it heals pretty quickly."
Hmm? She has this weird expression in her face, like she wants to say something but she won't like my answer to it.
She sighs.
"Please don't overdo it."
"Sure"
She sighs again.
Damn, i feel a bit bad.
Jack fidgets a bit awkwardly at my right.
She puts this oinment in my body while sit on a chair and read the newspaper of today, a bit weird to do so at like 4:30 pm, but it's my free time to spend as i like.
It wasn't hard to find the part I'm interested in:
"TERROR ACROSS THE STREETS, 5 BODIES DISCOVERED IN THE ALLEYS"
The news narrating my crusade of yesterday were in first page.
"How horrifying, such violent crimes..." Maria says.
I nod my head a bit.
Jack doesn't comment
The paper describes the crimes, how violent they were, aproximate time, how they were close to each other, etc, etc.
This should do for rumors.
By the way, i have been checking the news periodically, but i didn't found any notice of Dio.
I suppose there's nothing else to think about him. But i just thought i could see his body in the news or something like that.
I guess not then.
I thought that this would be basically the end of the day.
That I'd spend time doing anything else, take a shower, do whatever homework i have, sleep, knowing i have no lessons, since George is really occupied lately.
But no, someone did a slight knock in the door, we were in one of the many rooms of the mansion, and the fact that she knocked knows that I'm here, so it's something concerning me, not Maria or Jack.
"Come in" I answer
The door opens slightly and the maid comes in.
She begins.
"Young Master, there is someone looking for you and your companion."
That's weird.
For me? Ok, For me and Jack? That's weird, how do they even know that he's with me.
"I let her in the mansion and she's waiting now, should i chase her out?"
¨Her¨?
Oh!
I know who it is.
"I'll go in a moment".
She nods and leaves the room.
Well, it's time to meet the stalker right?
...
...
...
"Young master, who is it?" Maria asks me.
"Is it that blue haired girl that always stares at you?" Jack asks me.
Maria turns to look at him quickly.
"What was that?"
"Jack, don't-"
"There's this girl who tried to follow us home, but failed, and now she stares at him in classes"
"At ¨us¨ you mean?"
But Maria wasn't responding.
After a moment where she was looking dazed, she turns to me.
"Impressive, young master".
She has this smile that would be warm in any other situation, but now looks incredibly smug.
"..."
No comment because anything i say can and will be used against me.
*Sigh*
"Jack, let's just go..."
I stand up and don't look back as i feel the smugness radiating from her.
Whatever...
Let's just go meet blue hair.
