Chapter 558: Counter-Kill
Chapter 558: Counter-Kill
Having made up his mind, Lin Fengmian no longer hesitated. His sinister eyes activated as he focused intently on the attacks of the two pursuers, searching for their weaknesses.
Although his cultivation level was no longer what it used to be, his insight and combat instincts were still sharp. He quickly recognized the flaws in their movements.
Based on Lin Fengmian’s assessment of You Yao’s strength and the abilities of the two pursuers, he concluded that these two could be killed.
He leaned close to You Yao’s ear and whispered, analyzing the weaknesses of the two enemies.
“You Yao, the leader has a strong physique, but he has an old injury on his right shoulder. Also, his preferred weapon is an axe, not a hammer.”
“His movements are a bit unnatural, and he hasn’t fully adapted to using the hammer yet. You can take advantage of that.”
“As for the tall, skinny guy, his strength lies entirely in his poison. His physical body isn’t strong, but his poison mist can obscure vision and spiritual sense, which is troublesome.”
“Listen to me. First, you…”
You Yao felt slightly uncomfortable from the warmth of his breath, but as she listened, she was stunned.
Her first reaction was one of disbelief – was this guy actually trying to give her advice?
But as an expert herself, she immediately recognized the validity of his analysis. After observing for a moment, she realized that everything he said was accurate and highly feasible.
She transmitted her thoughts to Lin Fengmian, “I can withstand the poisonous mist, but what about you?”
“Me?”
Lin Fengmian grinned. “I won’t take the risk with you. You go ahead and come back quickly!”
Without waiting for her response, he let go of You Yao and continued flying forward on his own.
You Yao was startled, but instinctively followed his instructions and turned around to confront the two pursuers.
A thick white mist quickly spread from her body, covering the turbulent river like morning fog.
The enemies didn’t dare to summon their Dharma Idols for fear of being exposed, but You Yao had no such concerns.
Moments later, a twenty-zhang-tall humanoid figure with a snake tail appeared in the mist, wielding the chain-snake soft sword.
Her eyes flashed with killing intent as the chain snake sword lashed out like a poisonous snake, targeting the leader’s right shoulder.
Caught off guard, the leader instinctively raised his hammer to block, desperately protecting his injured shoulder.
You Yao gave him no time to recover, launching a relentless and precise assault on his right shoulder.
Although the leader had a strong physique, his unfamiliarity with the hammer and the old injury in his shoulder left him struggling to keep up.
The tall, skinny man quickly released poison mist, attempting to disrupt You Yao and create a more favorable battlefield for them.
But You Yao was prepared. With a sharp cry, spectral shadows emerged from her Dharma Idol, dispersing into the poison mist.
These shadows seemed to pierce through all illusions, returning information about the terrain and the enemies’ movements to You Yao.
Completely unaffected by the poisonous mist, You Yao effortlessly dodged several of the skinny man’s attacks.
Seizing the opportunity, her serpent tail lashed out, sending the leader flying into a nearby stone wall.
“Big Brother!”
The skinny man was startled.
He hadn’t expected You Yao to be immune to his poison mist and attack with such precision.
As You Yao turned her attention to him, he panicked.
“Go!”
He shouted, and the poisonous fog condensed into countless green snakes that surged towards You Yao.
You Yao’s Dharma Idol let out another piercing scream, scattering the snakes. Then she reverted to her human form and flew toward the skinny man.
Her bronze blindfold had somehow come undone, revealing her crimson eyes, which locked onto his. A red light flickered in her gaze.
The skinny man felt as if his heart had been gripped. His eyes widened, and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
By the time he regained his senses, You Yao was already standing in front of him. Her chain snake sword coiled around his body, wrapping him tightly.
“No!” he screamed in terror.
You Yao pulled out the chain snake sword and sliced him into pieces. A green Nascent Soul flew out of the remains.
“Third Brother!”
The burly man who had been thrown aside earlier saw his companion in danger and no longer cared about hiding his identity.
He summoned his Dharma Idol – a wrathful vajra wielding a giant axe – and brought it down with a mighty swing.
But You Yao ignored him, concentrating on finishing off the skinny man first.
The Nascent Soul of the skinny man screamed in horror, “Withering Blood Poison!”
The scattered flesh turned into poison fog, forming snakes that lunged at You Yao.
You Yao was forced to change her stance to defend herself, but her body was already covered in a dark green hue. She could feel her blood flow slowing down.
“Die!”
The leader’s axe strike arrived. You Yao deflected the blow with her sword, avoiding a fatal hit.
But the leader followed up with a horizontal sweep of his axe, slamming it into You Yao and sending her flying.
You Yao skimmed across the water like a dragonfly and used the momentum to dive into the river with Lin Fengmian.
The burly man chased them to the water’s edge, but stopped when he saw the potent poison spreading through the river.
“Third Brother, how are you?”
A dark green Nascent Soul flew over and landed on his shoulder.
Although small, the Nascent Soul had the appearance of an adult, its face twisted with hatred.
“Big Brother, I’m not dead, but I’m not far from it. I’ll have to find a new body to possess. That damn woman!”
The burly man scanned the surface of the water, then quickly followed You Yao’s aura in a certain direction.
“Third Brother, I’ll find you a good body when we get back. Right now, our priority is to eliminate these two.”
“They have seen your face and my Dharma Idol. We can’t let them return alive, or the Master will never forgive us.”
The Nascent Soul nodded. “Big Brother, don’t worry. That woman is poisoned with my Withering Blood Poison. She won’t get far!”
The burly man nodded, his eyes filled with murderous intent as he carried the Nascent Soul and pursued them.
Half an hour later, outside of One Line Sky, Lin Fengmian emerged from the river carrying an unconscious You Yao. Both of them were soaked.
You Yao’s eyes were closed, and her long hair was wet and clinging to her face, making her look like a beautiful water spirit.
When Lin Fengmian tried to probe her condition with his spiritual energy, the poison immediately attacked him, forcing him to stop.
Looking at You Yao’s darkened face, Lin Fengmian sighed helplessly.
“Yao Yao, you’re still too inexperienced. You almost got yourself killed.”
He carried You Yao as he flew low, trying to buy time until reinforcements arrived from the Junyan Imperial Hall.
Although he could have escaped alone using the Heaven-Avoiding Spirit Jade and the Small Teleportation Talisman, leaving You Yao behind would have sealed her fate.
Since it hadn’t come to that yet, Lin Fengmian decided to fight on, hoping to save her as well.
As he flew, Lin Fengmian reflected on the ambush and the unique Dharma Idol of the Revered One. A thought occurred to him.
Generally speaking, the number nine represented the ultimate limit. The maximum height of a Void Realm Dharma Idol was ninety-nine zhang and nine chi, often referred to as a hundred-zhang Dharma Idol.
Even his Eight Desolations Fiendgod fell within this range. But the Revered One’s Dharma Idol was clearly over one hundred and thirty zhang, which didn’t make sense.
Since the Revered One’s combat power wasn’t overwhelmingly strong, the exaggerated height of his Dharma Idol must have been due to some other reason.
Recalling the giant red-furred claw, Lin Fengmian suddenly realized who his opponent was.
The King of Mediocrity Dynasty, Jun Fengya!
If he wasn’t mistaken, the Revered One was the same “fence-sitter” who had nearly been turned into braised lion’s head by him in the past.
The absurdly tall Dharma Idol was probably the result of the Revered One standing upright to avoid being recognized.
Lin Fengmian couldn’t help but feel a little speechless. A thousand years had passed, and even this fence-sitter had reached the Void Realm!
“Jun Chengye, compared to him, you’ve really been wasting your life!”
