Chapter 27: Entering the Inner Sect is just around the corner!
Liu Mei coldly watched Xie Gui writhing on the ground, gasping for breath. She couldn’t help but feel disgusted.
“What a disgusting sight. I wonder what kind of ridiculous dream he’s having!”
She waved her hand impatiently, sending Xie Gui rolling further away. The man’s pathetic moaning and gasping stopped, as if he’d finally given up his charade.
Xie Gui, however, remained oblivious, still wearing a look of blissful ecstasy, clearly still caught up in his illusion.
Liu Mei glanced at the golden pouch peeking out of Xie Gui’s clothes, a mischievous gleam appearing in her eyes. An idea flashed through her mind.
“This self-righteous fool could be useful,” she thought. “Perfect for testing my theory.”
Meanwhile, Lin Fengmian stared at Chen Qingyan in confusion.
However, Chen Qingyan smiled slightly. As the surrounding area fell silent, her smile took on a mocking tone.
Several small flags materialized in her hand, and she gracefully placed them around the cave.
In an instant, all sounds were cut off, leaving an eerie silence.
Seeing Lin Fengmian’s puzzled expression, Chen Qingyan softly explained, “This is a sound-damping formation, usually used to prevent eavesdropping.”
“I see,” Lin Fengmian realized, “The immortals’ methods are indeed extraordinary.”
Chen Qingyan’s curiosity piqued, she asked, “Junior Brother , you seem to have some skill with the sword.”
Lin Fengmian didn’t deny it, he simply replied, “Family tradition. After all, who hasn’t dreamed of being a wandering swordsman?”
Chen Qingyan’s eyes lit up for a moment before fading. “A wandering swordsman, huh?”
She took out a long sword from her storage ring and tossed it to Lin Fengmian. “Even though this sword is only a mid-level spirit tool, it should be enough for you. You might as well throw that wooden one away.”
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Lin Fengmian accepted the sword. It was a beautiful azure blade that radiated a faint aura of spiritual energy.
In this world, magical artifacts were divided into several levels: spiritual tools, magical tools, immortal tools, and divine tools. Each tier was further divided into four levels: supreme, top, middle, and low.
Although this sword was only a mid-level spirit tool, it was more than enough for Lin Fengmian. Moreover, it was a gift from Chen Qingyan, which made it even more valuable.
“Thank you, Senior Sister Chen,” he exclaimed, his voice filled with joy.
Chen Qingyan just hummed in appreciation and said nothing more. She lay down with her back to him, leaving behind a mesmerizing silhouette.
“Get some rest,” she murmured.
Lin Fengmian did not sleep well that night. Whether it was the excitement of sharing a room with his beloved or the unsettling feeling of vulnerability, he tossed and turned restlessly.
He dared not act on his desires for fear of Chen Qingyan’s reaction.
However, it was clear that both of them were suppressing their true feelings.
Lin Fengmian spent the whole night in a restless sleep, and the next morning, he woke up exhausted and yawning.
Chen Qingyan noticed his fatigue and asked, “Junior Brother, did you not sleep well?”
“I was feeling a little bit uncomfortable,” he mumbled, secretly thinking, “How could I sleep well with such a stunning beauty by my side?”
After washing up, they stepped out into the courtyard where they encountered Xie Gui, his face pale and drawn.
Next to him was Liu Mei, radiating beauty and vitality.
Liu Mei first sized up Lin Fengmian before shooting a venomous glare at Chen Qingyan, her expression filled with resentment.
“Huh, I thought you had some guts, but it looks like you were just bluffing!” she thought.
Chen Qingyan, however, remained calm and indifferent, her expression showing no hint of the previous confrontation.
Xia Yunxi, seeing Lin Fengmian’s weary but unharmed appearance, let out a sigh of relief.
Lin Fengmian smiled faintly at her and nodded. Xia Yunxi smiled back.
The other few disciples gritted their teeth, their faces distorted with jealousy. “Shameless,” they muttered, “eating what’s in her bowl while looking at what’s in the pot.”
Liu Mei looked at the group and said calmly, “Have you all rested well? We should continue our journey. We need to reach the next town today, or else we’ll be sleeping in the wilderness.”
Everyone replied in unison and then left the cave.
On the way, Lin Fengmian looked at Xie Gui, whose face was pale and who seemed to be questioning his life choices. He almost burst out laughing.
He came closer and said with a smile, “Congratulations, Junior Brother Xie, your cultivation has advanced another level. It seems that entering the inner sect is just around the corner.”
Xie Gui looked at him and could only say in a low voice, “We’re all progressing together!”
I’m dead, and you won’t be far behind. You’ll eventually be drained by these demonesses.
“Junior Brother’s cultivation is progressing so fast, I’m sure you’ll surpass me sooner,” Lin Fengmian said with a cheerful smile.
Xie Gui was speechless. He couldn’t understand how Lin Fengmian could always remain unharmed.
Could his body really be that good?
In the past three years, even a large elephant would have been drained by these bone-sucking, marrow-sucking demons.
Lin Fengmian had no idea what he was thinking. He happily held the long sword in his hand, admiring it over and over again.
Liu Mei casually glanced at it and chuckled lightly, “Senior Sister Chen is quite generous, isn’t she?”
Chen Qingyan remained noncommittal and simply said, “Senior Sister Liu, what are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
Liu Mei snorted coldly, but didn’t dwell on it. She changed the subject and said, “Xie Gui is acting suspicious!”
“What do you mean?” Chen Qingyan asked.
Liu Mei seemed to have thought of something amusing as she covered her mouth and giggled, “He’s suspicious of us and has been trying to connect with others along the way.”
“It seems like he’s discovered something wrong. Senior Sister Liu, what are your plans?” Chen Qingyan asked.
“Old rules, I’ve had enough this time, it’s your turn,” Liu Mei said meaningfully.
Chen Qingyan replied with a flat “Oh” without saying anything else.
A strange light flickered in Liu Mei’s eyes, as if she had a plan in mind.
The group of ten flew for a day before they finally saw a small black city.
Lin Fengmian had endured another day of brutal flight training and was now somewhat dazed.
“Senior Sister, is this our destination?”
Lin Fengmian stood behind Chen Qingyan with a pale face, but he didn’t dare to hug her anymore for fear that she would knock him down again.
“No, our destination is further away. We’re just here to buy some supplies,” Chen Qingyan explained.
“There are many other cultivators in this town. Don’t leave once you enter, and don’t provoke anyone you shouldn’t,” Liu Mei warned.
Lin Fengmian’s heart skipped a beat before his eyes lit up.
There are other people here, does that mean there’s a chance to escape?
But then he thought about Liu Mei’s confidence and realized that this place was probably still under the influence of the Joyful Union Sect. He immediately lost his courage.
The group landed outside the city and entered. The city was buzzing with activity.
But when Lin Fengmian and the others arrived at their supposed base, they couldn’t help but be speechless.
It turned out to be a brothel filled with beautiful women, just like another branch of the Joyful Union Sect.
The girls bowed their heads and respectfully greeted Liu Mei and the others. “Greetings, Miss Liu.”
Liu Mei remained composed, simply acknowledging their greetings with a hum. The group went to the backyard, apparently to settle accounts and collect some items.
It seemed like this place was a human enterprise of the Joyful Union sect. They were truly professional.
Lin Fengmian finally understood why they didn’t recruit people here.
Even rabbits wouldn’t eat the grass by their nest, let alone suitable candidates who had already been recruited.
