Chapter 12
There weren’t many houses in the Jing Xingzhi’s house, and they weren’t big either. Jing Xingzhi walked into the main room carrying someone on his back, then turned and entered the bedroom.
Liu Fang hopped off his back, searched around the small bed, and found a pair of iron scissors.
“What do you need the scissors for?” Liu Fang handed them to Jing Xingzhi and asked.
“We tie our hair as husband and wife to symbolize our love. I’ll cut a bunch from each of our heads, tie it into a knot, and burn it for Fang Ge’er,” Jing Xingzhi explained, emphasizing the ancient practice of using hair for formation knots.
Liu Fang had tied his hair into a neat low ponytail with a hair tie for convenience.
He took off the hair tie and offered a strand of slightly yellowish hair to Jing Xingzhi. “You can cut it. It’s all hair people have struggled to grow.”
Jing Xingzhi declined, “Okay, you can turn around.”
As Liu Fang turned, Jing Xingzhi cut off a significant strand of long hair.
After cutting Liu Fang’s hair, Jing Xingzhi handed the scissors to Liu Fang and turned his back. “Your turn.”
“I’ll take off your hair tie and cut it,” Liu Fang suggested, untying Jing Xingzhi’s hair.
Feeling tempted, Liu Fang hesitated with the scissors in his hand, considering hiding a strand. “Cut it, just a little bit, you won’t notice,” Jing Xingzhi urged, smiling. “Let’s finish and get some rest.”
Liu Fang, a bit confused, cut two strands but managed to hide a small piece before Jing Xingzhi turned around.
Jing Xingzhi touched the back of his head, took the hair from Liu Fang, and said, “I’ll make a tie and burn it. That should do.”
Liu Fang, feeling guilty, spoke a bit too quietly, “That’s right.”
Jing Xingzhi glanced at Liu Fang and asked, “Are you tired? You seem a bit weak. Go brush your teeth, wash your feet, and get some rest. I’ll be fine soon.”
Liu Fang quickly nodded, “A little bit,” and darted a glance toward the kitchen. “I’ll go check the hot water.”
Feeling nervous, like a tight string, Liu Fang sensed that staying longer in front of Jing Xingzhi might reveal his state. Jing Xingzhi, engrossed in his work, didn’t seem to notice anything unusual.
Liu Fang, scolding himself for being despicable, left the main room. He knew Jing Xingzhi’s straightforward nature so he likely hadn’t discovered anything.
After berating himself, Liu Fang, with a cold expression, entered the kitchen to attend to his needs.
.
Feet in the tub.
Liu Fang held the hidden lock of hair, his eyes slightly dull. Thoughts swirled in his mind, battling as if fighting to the death.
How would it be if he and Jing Xingzhi were on the same page? Why not try?
Liu Fang lowered his head, his eyes falling on the scissors he hadn’t put away.
As if tempted by a devil, Liu Fang raised his hand and cut off another strand of hair from the back of his head. Holding two strands in his hand that he could tie them into a knot at will, providing comfort. Liu Fang knew it might not be effective, even considered disgusting by some, but he was ready to take a chance.
But then he thought, what if Jing Xingzhi doesn’t reciprocate his feelings?
The air escaped from Liu Fang’s lungs like a punctured balloon. He frowned, forcefully stuffing two strands into his purse. With determination, he said, “One day, you can also be in pairs.”
For now, he had let it go.
Regaining composure, Liu Fang wiped his feet, put on clean shoes, and prepared to return to the bedroom.
Jing Xingzhi, entering the opposite way, looked relaxed.
Liu Fang warned, “The water is still hot. You can mix it yourself.”
“Okay, Xiao Fangfang, you go to bed first,” Jing Xingzhi smiled, waving off Liu Fang’s concern.
Returning to the bedroom, Liu Fang tidied up, undressed, and lay down on the small bed.
.
After a while, Jing Xingzhi, moving swiftly, entered the bedroom on straw sandals.
Jing Xingzhi, considering everything done, suggested casually, “Liu Fang, why sleep on that small bed? Let’s share the big one!”
Liu Fang: “??”
But it wasn’t over yet!
Tired from the banter, Liu Fang muttered, “Let’s just sleep like this; I’m used to it.”
Jing Xingzhi playfully disagreed, shaking Liu Fang through the quilt. “You’ve got money, food, meat, and you’re settling for this tiny bed. You won’t sleep well.”
Jing Xingzhi gestured to the narrow width of the small bed, “See, it’s so cramped. I might roll over and fall off.”
The crib was indeed small, and Jing Xingzhi noticed Liu Fang’s bent legs.
Liu Fang shook his head and firmly declined, “I’ve been sleeping on a small bed these days and never fell off.”
Jing Xingzhi, perplexed, asked, “You really don’t want to sleep on the big bed?”
Thinking it was a natural choice, Jing Xingzhi didn’t anticipate Liu Fang’s refusal. Liu Fang used a “good brother” tone, “I’m just used to it.”
Sighing, Jing Xingzhi had no choice but to take the big bed for himself.
Turning his back to Liu Fang, Jing Xingzhi quickly undressed, leaving only the innermost clothes.
As Jing Xingzhi extinguished the lamp, Liu Fang closed his eyes, fearing he might see something.
But Jing Xingzhi’s eyes lit up, “Liu Fang, I forgot to tell you something.”
Liu Fang poked his head out, asking, “What is it?”
“Do you remember the door opening earlier today?” Jing Xingzhi felt a bit mysterious.
Liu Fang nodded, glaring at Jing Xingzhi, “Don’t scare me with mysteries!”
Jing Xingzhi defended, “Am I that kind of person? I always stick to my word.”
While he didn’t intend to break his promise, Jing Xingzhi wanted to confess what he had done during the day.
“When I moved the coin sword, I recited the incantation to summon souls. Fang Ge’er stayed at the door a lot, so there was movement there,” Jing Xingzhi explained, leaving the rest to Liu Fang’s imagination.
Liu Fang’s mind raced, realizing Fang Ge’er stayed at the door, but what about other places? Like, for example, a small bed. People spent a lot of time in bed every day.
Feeling a chill, Liu Fang looked at Jing Xingzhi, asking nervously, “You didn’t trick me, did you?”
Jing Xingzhi insisted, “I really didn’t trick you.” He then placed the oil lamp on the small table between the beds, subtly suggesting something.
Hugging the quilt tightly, Liu Fang hesitated. Jing Xingzhi glanced at him and teased, “I’ll blow out the lamp, then.”
“No!” Liu Fang protested.
Quickly lifting the quilt, Liu Fang stepped onto the big bed, looked awkwardly at Jing Xingzhi, and mumbled, “I’ll blow out the lamp.”
“Okay, let’s sleep,” Jing Xingzhi pulled on Liu Fang’s quilt, smiling as if he had successfully pulled off a prank.
Liu Fang blew out the oil lamp and laid down with a wry smile.
Angry, amused, and a little afraid of ghosts, Liu Fang thought, ‘Jing Xingzhi, Jing Xingzhi, when you find out I like you later, let’s see if you dare to coax me into sleeping with you on the big bed!’
