C53: New Teacher Mr. Kronos (4)
“From now on, I’ll be in charge of the practical magic classes. Don’t worry, Emma-sensei will still be in charge of the classroom lessons.”
For these reasons, Kagehiko Kurono became a temporary instructor, Kronos LeBlanc.
Kronos reminded himself of the salesman he used to be in Japan, and tried to be polite and courteous in his speech. Because he was usually so absent-minded, he gave the impression of being a different person, even though he hadn’t changed his face with magic.
“Professor, may I ask you a question?”
“Yes, of course you may. It’s…….”
“Salomon. My name is Luna Salomon.”
The one who stood up with her hand raised was a red-haired female student wearing the school uniform. The girl, who had a strong look in her eyes, opened her mouth while giving Kronos a challenging look.
“I don’t mean to be rude, but what rank have you reached, Professor Kronos?”
“I can use magic up to the third rank. Miss Salomon.”
“Third rank?”
To avoid revealing his identity as a former sage, Kronos falsified his abilities downward. When Luna heard the fake abilities, she raised her voice as if she couldn’t believe her ears.
Magic in this world is divided into ranks from the first to the seventh ranks.
The first rank is the so-called life magic. Even ordinary people who are not adventurers or knights can use it, and it is used in everyday life as a matter of course, for things like lighting wood on fire or filling a tub with water. From there, the rank of magic rises as the number increases, and the seventh rank is the divine magic that appears in legends.
The third rank magic that Kronos claimed to be able to use was an intermediate class magic, a level that the average wizard could reach.
“Are you kidding me? How can someone who is supposed to teach the students of the Advanced Class of Tachibana Academy of Magic only be able to use magic of intermediate rank? Excuse me, but some of the students in this class are capable of using 4th rank magic.”
For the students of the elite Advanced Class, it was unbearable to have a lower ranked wizard standing over them as a teacher.
“The fourth rank? That’s great……but being able to use magic doesn’t necessarily mean you can master it.”
Kronos responded to Luna’s criticism with a provocation. Luna furrowed her brow and sharpened her eyes.
“Does that mean we’re not good with magic?”
“That’s what I’m saying. The difference between a wizard and a sage, depends on how well they understand the nature of magic and how to use it properly. It’s great to be able to use higher levels of magic, but that doesn’t make you a good wizard.”
The classroom buzzed with noise at Kronos words. The students in the Advanced Placement class are shouting accusations at Kronos. Emma, who is standing behind Kronos, wanders around with a dazed look in her eyes.
“……Since you say so much, I assume you’re going to teach us the genuine use of magic.”
“Of course. Miss Salomon.”
“Then let’s go to the training grounds now. Professor Kronos, I challenge you to a duel. Can you give this inexperienced little girl some pointers?”
Luna Salomon smiled, but her red eyes, which were as fiery as her hair color, showed a clear murderous intent towards Kronos.
