Chapter 228: Chapter 229

The Three-Tails was furious.

It had been sleeping peacefully at the bottom of the lake when, suddenly, a child forced it to rise to the surface.

Though Yukimaru's control was weak, allowing the Three-Tails to quickly break free, the Tailed Beast was not without anger.

Breaking through the crystal barriers surrounding it, the Three-Tails unleashed its rage upon those who dared disturb its slumber.

The lake was its domain, an environment where it could fully exert its power.

Guren and Wutu were struggling to defend against its onslaught.

Not wanting to see Guren hurt, Yukimaru, despite his weakness, shouted loudly and released an even stronger burst of chakra.

For a moment, the Three-Tails froze.

This scene was not only seen by the Konoha shinobi, who were fighting Guren's subordinates nearby, but also by Gensou.

While Kakashi and his team were shocked and worried about the implications of Orochimaru's subordinate controlling the Three-Tails—a significant threat to Konoha—Gensou merely glanced at Yukimaru, losing interest quickly.

It didn't matter what method the boy was using to control the Three-Tails.

Neither a Tailed Beast nor a Jinchuriki was of any consequence to him.

He had more important matters to attend to.

Recalling his original purpose, Gensou scanned the surroundings.

Soon, his Rinnegan detected Kabuto retreating from the lake, hiding within the dense forest.

As Orochimaru's right-hand man, Kabuto possessed valuable knowledge.

In an instant, Gensou vanished from his position.

Nearby, Kabuto was frowning as he watched the ongoing battle at the lake, contemplating how to draw more power from Yukimaru.

Suddenly!

Sensing danger, Kabuto turned to flee without hesitation.

But it was too late.

A slender, pale hand gripped his neck and lifted him off the ground.

"Your sensory skills are quite sharp," Gensou remarked calmly. His eyes locked onto Kabuto's as he activated his ocular jutsu.

Kabuto, helpless as the grip around his neck tightened, looked at his captor with bloodshot eyes, struggling to comprehend the sight before him.

Upon recognizing the face, vibrant and full of life, he felt a surge of panic.

"You're… Gensou!!"

Kabuto couldn't believe that Gensou would appear here.

And judging by his demeanor, he was clearly hostile toward Orochimaru.

"Not good!"

Kabuto's face tightened in horror.

"You're… prying into my memories!"

Kabuto realized, terrified, that a foreign force was probing through his mind.

He reacted immediately.

Bang!

Kabuto's body burst into a puff of smoke.

"A Shadow Clone?" Gensou murmured, surprised.

Even the powerful Kaguya couldn't differentiate between Naruto's clones and his true self, and Gensou hadn't expected that Kabuto here would be a mere clone.

"Clever," Gensou chuckled.

But in the brief moment of eye contact, he had already extracted the location of Orochimaru's latest hideout from Kabuto's memories.

The elusive snake wasn't far from here.

"Kabuto's real body will certainly alert Orochimaru now. If I delay, he might slip away."

Understanding the need for speed, Gensou turned back toward the lake. The battle there had come to a temporary halt.

Sensing that the situation could worsen if the fight continued, Guren seized an opportunity to retreat, taking Yukimaru and her team with her.

Not inclined to leave the lake, the Three-Tails sank back to the depths.

Kakashi's team, momentarily hindered by a smoke screen, could only watch as the Three-Tails submerged, deciding to report its appearance to Konoha for further orders.

The once chaotic battlefield fell silent.

Seeing this, Gensou no longer had to choose between the Three-Tails and Orochimaru.

He would take them both!

Returning to Hanare's side, Gensou issued orders swiftly:

"Contact Deidara and Kisame to capture the Three-Tails here. During the interim, Hanare, you are in charge of monitoring it. I'll deal with Orochimaru."

Deidara and Kisame were patrolling a northern coastline and could arrive quickly on their clay bird.

While Gensou could likely handle the Three-Tails himself, transporting and guarding such a massive beast would take time.

Orochimaru and Konoha couldn't touch the Three-Tails anytime soon, so he could afford to leave it to Deidara and Kisame.

Hanare quickly wrote Gensou's orders on a blank scroll, used the Summoning Technique to send it out, and then concealed herself to monitor the Three-Tails.

Meanwhile, Gensou wasted no time, setting off at full speed toward Orochimaru's hideout.

In a dark underground base…

Orochimaru sat in his chair, one arm resting lazily on the armrest, the other supporting his chin as he watched the flickering candlelight with a trace of amusement.

Human lives were like candle flames, drifting with the wind and occasionally flaring up with brilliance, only to fade back into obscurity.

He had placed Guren with Yukimaru not out of loyalty, but because of the bond between them, which would only deepen over time.

People were at their strongest when their most precious bonds were about to be severed.

Such was human nature.

Even if it meant the candle would burn out faster beneath the brilliant flame.

"Kabuto doesn't understand that. He only uses drugs to stimulate Yukimaru's potential, but the greatest strength always comes from genuine emotion."

Orochimaru shook his head, thinking he should advise Kabuto on this.

Then he noticed Kabuto returning in haste.

"Lord Orochimaru!"

Kabuto, out of breath, ignored protocol and burst into the room, calling for Orochimaru.

"An unexpected problem?" Orochimaru asked, still lounging in his chair with a calm expression.

Knowing Kabuto, Orochimaru could tell from his assistant's expression that something significant had happened.

But he remained unbothered.

If the sky fell, he was there to catch it.

He had always found the ninja world more boring than frightening.

Until the next moment.

"Lord Orochimaru! Gensou is here to kill you!" Kabuto exclaimed anxiously.

At this, Orochimaru calmly stood up.

Then.

"Run!"

Without another word, Orochimaru and Kabuto immediately fled!
