1.3 Video Game Mechanics 2
Isran read over the available class options. The first three were rather useless in her opinion. The first two were literally making fun of her for her lack of fighting knowledge. And the third would rely on her protecting others.
She could see the benefits of the loyal soldier class if she had planned to be a loyal soldier.
The last class option literally called out to her. Almost tempting in the way it was worded. Isran thought about the loyal soldier class a little more. Did she really want to be someone’s shield? Not at all. That didn’t sound fun.
She had been given a second chance at life, living her second life out in servitude was absolutely not what she wanted to do.
Her mind made up, Isran chose KNIGHT OF GREATNESS. Instead of saying her choice out loud, she thought about it, she was happy that it worked. Saying commands would get weird around other people for sure.

“I lost two health points in that fight.” Isran turned away from her status screen and looked at her shield, still lying on top of the dead slime. She held back a gag when she saw some of the monster’s eyeballs. “What kind of surname is ‘the great’?” She mumbled, rubbing her throat. Her voice was a little deep, more husky than anything.
A smaller notification popped up above the status screen.
1 FREE ATTRIBUTE POINT AVAILABLE
Isran put the point into strength, the shield had possibly saved her life, and she needed to be able to swing it around during fights.
STRENGTH: 6
Another notification popped up.
ONE SKILL SLOT OPENED
LOYAL BLADE
ANY BLADED WEAPON YOU WIELD WILL BE EASIER TO USE. THE WEIGHT WILL BE DECREASED AND IS LESS LIKELY TO FALL FROM YOUR HAND.
PROTECTOR OF THE WEAK
ANY SHIELD YOU WIELD WILL WITHSTAND MORE DAMAGE THAN ORIGINALLY INTENDED. THIS EFFECT IS INCREASED WHEN YOU ARE PROTECTING SOMEONE WEAKER THAN YOU.
Isran read over the two skills. The previous notification had said she had one skill slot opened. She wondered if she could return and take an old skill offered. She would figure that out when the time came.
Thinking about her two available options she went with LOYAL BLADE. She didn’t know how to wield a sword, and if the skill would help her be better at it, it was a no-brainer.
PROTECTOR OF THE WEAK was most definitely a useful skill. But her ability to attack felt more important than her ability to defend, At least at that moment.
Isran wondered if the skills were based on actions she had taken as well as her deficiencies. It seemed that way. Though why the PROTECTOR OF THE WEAK skill was called that was a bit odd. She hadn’t protected anyone but herself since she was reincarnated. Unless she was the ‘weak’ the skill was referring to.
With a shrug, she picked LOYAL BLADE.
After dismissing all notifications and her status screen, Isran stood up. She winced at the wet feeling on her ass but ignored it and picked up her shield.
Thankfully the slime wasn’t sticky.
With her first fight out of the way, she had another important need. A place to sleep. The forest was getting darker and she didn’t want to know how much more dangerous monsters were in the dark.
Isran didn’t know whether it was her luck or the man she founds lack of luck but in only a few hours of searching, she had figured out her sleeping arrangements.
A man with red hair and dressed in some amour lay dead in a little clearing. It was clear from his curved sword that the man had made the small clearing.
His tent was propped in the center of the clearing and an old fireplace was a little off to the side.
Isran flipped the rigid cold body and stared in shock and horror at his melted face. His eyes were missing and there were small green streaks on his face.
Malevolent slime corpses were lying around, Isran counted twenty. They had overwhelmed him.
Isran felt bad as she searched through his pockets, but he was dead and any items he had could be useful to her. She was still alive.
He had a few silver coins with an acorn on them in his pocket, and a round stone that shone brightly, wrapped tightly around his arm with a leather rope.
Isran was careful as she cut the rope off of him. The stone was a light red color and glowed in the same way. Heat emanated from it. She also found a small pocket knife.
After digging a shallow hole with her sword and the curved blade of the dead man Isran rolled his body into it and covered it up. Hopefully, his soul would be grateful, even though she was looting his corpse.
The tent was big enough that she fit tightly in it. It had a sleeping bag and a soft pillow. Isran dug through the bags he had in the tent.
One bag was filled with meat-smelling packages wrapped tightly in brown paper. The second had papers, some Isran recognized as maps but couldn’t figure out how to read. There were notes along the edges of the maps, as well as other papers dedicated to notes. Isran couldn’t read them.
The letters seemed familiar, and the longer she stared at them the more they made sense. But she never truly grasped any of the words. Her head hurt the harder she tried. She hoped it was just her brain lagging a bit and not her not understanding the language. She really hoped the inhabitants of the world spoke English.
She was starting to wish the man hadn’t died.
The third bag was smelly and made her gag. It was filled with random organic parts, she recognized the slime eyes, there were a few vials filled with the viscous body of the slime. Some black horns that looked like they belonged on an elephant, and green scales.
Sitting on the sleeping bag and pushing the repulsive bag away Isran’s fatigue started to sink in. She ate one of the wrapped meats, the taste reminded her of jerky but not quite. Washed it down with the pond water and went to sleep.
