A crisp unlocking sound echoed as the cylindrical coffin began to descend straight downward, accelerating to an extremely high speed via the electromagnetic rail.

At this moment, a counterintuitive phenomenon occurred.

From the perspective of a normal riding experience, the higher the acceleration, the stronger the sensation of being pressed into the seat. But at this moment, the direction of the acceleration was directly toward the ground.

Without this external force of acceleration, the two people inside the cabin would naturally be pulled by gravity, falling at the same speed as the cylindrical coffin, and no accident would occur.

However, the electromagnetic rail had just provided an external force, giving the coffin an additional acceleration far exceeding that of gravity. This caused Zhang Ge, who was not wearing a seatbelt, to detach from his seat and begin flying upward at an extreme speed.

The officer earlier had assumed that both of them were aware of this and didn't give a reminder. Zhang Ge, whether in his past life or now, had never experienced a landing pod and had no idea about this. Amilia, seeing Zhang Ge's calm demeanor, thought he might have some new trick up his sleeve.

If he had been alone at this moment, his wish for death would have been realized in this dramatic fashion—Zhang Ge would have been smashed into a pulp against the top of the cylindrical coffin.

However, Amilia sat nearby, her magnetic foot system firmly securing her to the seat. Seeing that Zhang Ge was genuinely unaware of the precautions for riding in a landing pod, she quickly moved at a faster speed to hold down Zhang Ge, who was beginning to float upwards.

Only then did Zhang Ge realize what had just happened and turned to look at Amilia. Although her expression was hidden behind the gas mask, she still managed to convey a "you're welcome" look.

Of course, the counter used to record the descent distance was unaffected by this minor incident, its numbers wildly jumping. The pod's surroundings also emitted occasional short, sharp scraping sounds, making it feel as if they were truly plummeting into hell.

In the lightless depths of the underhive, the high speed and the black exterior of the pod made it nearly impossible to track with the naked eye. If anyone was present, they might hear a whistling sound pass by but would be completely unable to aim effectively.

Time ticked away, and just as the illusion that this fall might continue forever began to take hold, the retro-thrusters activated amidst a shuddering of the pod, the immense force instantly pressing down on both of them.

The experience of the impact was barely enough to allow the occupants to walk out unscathed, with any consideration for comfort completely out of the question.

Zhang Ge only felt that despite the retro-thrust, the moment of landing still slammed him with a sensation that all his bones were out of place. The metallic vibrations brought a relentless ringing that tortured his ears.

However, there was not much time to immerse in this feeling. The directional explosives built into the hatch quickly activated after landing. This straightforward and brutal method of opening the door effectively prevented mechanical failures caused by deformation upon impact.

As the explosion rang out, sparks of metal jet scattered outward. While the hatch fell outward, Amilia threw a smoke grenade.

Amidst the sudden expansion of gray-white mist in a small explosion, countless tiny, glowing crystals could be seen. These were highly reflective mirror-like crystals propelled by the explosion, making this cloud of smoke not only capable of obscuring vision but also effectively intercepting the rays of individual laser weapons.

Of course, such equipment is best used with a respiratory filter.

As the smoke spread, Zhang Ge leaned against the door, but the expected attack did not come.

His gaze turned to Amilia, who shook her head and said:

"It's too quiet."

Yes, it was too quiet.

If Zhang Ge's own hearing could not confirm it, then the fact that even Amilia could not hear anything was enough to consider it abnormal.

Not only were there no sounds of living beings, but even gunshots were absent. After all, this was the underhive, not some evening study classroom.

But soon, the two of them understood why it was so quiet here.

Amilia was the first to react. It seemed she had heard something, and in an instant, she stepped forward, grabbing Zhang Ge's arm and pulling him up. The jump pack behind her spat out a trail of scorching flames, propelling both of them into the sky.

Zhang Ge's blessed eyes had already adapted to some extent to the dark environment, allowing him to clearly see what was below.

It was an endless swarm of humanoid creatures climbing and surging from all directions.

They seemed to lack eyes, perhaps having degenerated to adapt to the dark environment? Their skin was also unusually pale due to the lack of light, and their slender bodies revealed bones wrapped in skin. Yet, their limbs were exceptionally strong, enabling them to nimbly crawl across various terrains with their lightweight frames.

It was evident that these things were the culprits behind the eerie silence of the underhive. From what could be observed, they had no vision, but their hearing was extremely acute.

The noise from the jump pack attracted these creatures. Although the sound source was mid-air, they possessed a certain level of intelligence and had already begun climbing up the buildings on either side, attempting to position themselves at the same height as their prey.

Were they aliens? Or perhaps some kind of sub-human? Mutants?

Zhang Ge compared these humanoid species to the aliens in his mind, but he couldn't find a corresponding match.

Suddenly, Amilia's voice rang out:

"In the sky."

Hearing this, he shifted his gaze upward, where rows of translucent, glowing amber... wombs?

No, it was far more than that.

As he focused his attention further, Zhang Ge noticed that the wombs were unevenly distributed across an inverted convex surface.

He quickly realized what that convex surface truly was.

Because a massive, equally amber eye, facing the ground, opened.

Its surface was covered in mucus, and as the two fleshy lids that concealed it parted, the liquid clung and dripped downward. The pupil, formed by countless elongated, egg-like entities crowded together, began to scan the surroundings.

Those egg-like entities were less like parts of a pupil and more like living creatures resembling worms.

In an instant, their gazes met.

The pupil of the other constricted inward, the egg-like entities pressing against each other, their shapes twisting. The small black centers of each egg-like entity converged toward the center, attempting to lock onto Zhang Ge.

Those translucent wombs were intricately arranged on its back, embedded like strawberry seeds.

If one looked closely, they could even glimpse a faint metallic sheen beneath the flesh in some of the crevices.

A daemon engine?

Looking at its twisted and abhorrent form, Zhang Ge's first thought was this answer, but he quickly dismissed it.

If it were a daemon engine of such scale, it couldn't have remained hidden in the underhive for so long. But if not, then what was it?

The nobles couldn't possibly be unaware of this, yet even the captain of the guard seemed to be kept in the dark. What were they hiding?

Was the battle that caused the Warlord Titan to fall a mere coincidence, or was there some other purpose behind it?

There was no more time for contemplation.

Because the thing had already begun to move.

As its limbs, attached to the ceiling of the underhive, slowly raised, its massive body began to detach from the top partition wall. Until dozens of pillar-like flesh legs stood upright, its body, with the sound of a collapsing mountain, crashed down directly.
