Chapter 19: Chapter 19:Night walk
...Kikyo pov...
*snore* *snore* *snore*
Opening my eyes that still remain unfocused and looking up at the wooden ceiling that rests above me. I turn my neck towards where those snores are coming from, which are clearly coming from my host.
It takes a few seconds for my eyes to adjust to the darkness as it dominates the room, though I use those moments to bring my senses back to their highest point. Heh, high enough that they can be in this disgusting inhuman way.
Avoiding falling into self-criticism again, a situation that has happened quite a bit in my mind, I lift my upper body, before putting strength into my arms and manage to get off the futon.
Arranging my clothes that are wrinkled or fallen, I start walking towards the sliding door, avoiding the 7 danger zones that I feel around that demon and that seem to have a consciousness of their own due to the erratic way of their movements.
"Might I suggest you stay inside the room?"
An elderly and distinctly male voice speaks behind me, causing me to automatically go on guard, though this state recedes briefly as I see that the spirit does not have the power or desire to forcibly stop me.
On the other hand, and as if seeing the brief moment in which I release a bit of power, the danger zones in the room stand watching in this direction, though they soon move again in no apparent pattern.
"No. You must be able to sense that despite being stable, this body needs more souls to function properly and regain my power."
"I understand. Are you going to kill someone in the village?"
Am I going to kill someone to extend my existence?.... How would that be any different from the demons he called evil. Is it wrong for me to continue living... My time has already passed on this earth, but why Inuyasha can still be here and be happy!
"Ah... come with me. In this village there is a small cemetery, maybe you can find some soul remnants?"
The spirit's sigh pulls me back from my self-destructive thoughts, at the same time his words make me see him in a different light. My lips feel dry and I wanted to ask you why, even though he was already floating out of the room.
"Why are you helping me?"
"He thinks you're his responsibility since he found you in the river. That doesn't mean anything bad, just that he seems like someone who is easily obsessed with what he thinks is his duty. So helping you is helping him."
Walking on the wooden floor, with different kinds of thoughts in my mind, I decided that I'm not going to stay silent like it happened with the girl, then I asked him why he was helping me and the answer was most unexpected.
"Heh, a demon with ethics... That's unexpected."
The voice coming from my lips oozes sarcasm and I can almost feel the urge to scoff at his words. All demons are the same, no matter how human and civilized they seem, they are only beasts in the background waiting for you to let your guard down.
"I guess it might be hard to believe, the only thing I can assure you is that he is not a bad person, at the same time I can confirm that he has never killed any human, if that makes you feel any better."
"Quite confident."
"It's not confidence, it's just a fact. He's too... Human for his own good."
Ignoring his response, we continue to move through the halls until we step outside the house. Looking at the moon that remains the same as those times and the unperturbed stars, I think about how mundane human existence is in the face of time... With his feelings it's the same thing apparently... Inuyasha.
The few souls that still remain within me are stirred only at the thought of his name, he betrayed me and now he lives happily! Why can he? His life belongs to me... It's true, if he snatched mine it's only fair that I took his.
"We have arrived, how do you plan to collect the remains of departed souls?"
Returning to the reality of that twisted logic due to the spirit's calm words, nodding towards him, then moving my arms, making certain folded paper shapes come out of my sleeves.
It is a shikigami technique, in which the papers change shapes, until they take the form of shinidamachū or known as soul-collecting snakes.
They were whitish on the surface and pure white underneath. Their body was long reaching 1.20cm, four long legs are located under the head area and is where the souls are placed. They also have deep red eyes and open butterfly-like ears.
"I had already prepared myself for such a situation. Now I just have to wait for them to collect all the compatible souls."
"Umm…"
...Christopher pov...
Yet another night of sleeping on the floor, this may perhaps be some sort of curse. As I seriously considered this situation, I stretched my body to end the laziness and guide my eyes around the room.
*Zaz*
With the sound of the sliding door opening, I turned my neck that way, to see Kikyo standing in the doorway. She was wearing her priestess outfit with rivets here and there, at the same time her face looked a little dirty, but also more alive.
"Good morning."
"Mmm... Good morning."
Her answer was monotonous and added that she hasn't stopped looking me in the eyes, I'm starting to get scared by the situation I'm in.
I never thought I would say this, but luckily Saya appears from behind her and starts to explain what is going on.
