Chapter 109: Chapter 109:Imposter
The damp morning wind blows through the forest, while the sun barely makes an appearance on the horizon.
Inside the forest, still silent from the lack of activity of any animal, be it small or large, two young men are traveling.
One was Asahiko, who remains with a clearly annoyed face and the piercing look he throws at the wielder makes it very clear he is angry with.
"Even if you keep looking at it nothing will happen, but it's also not like you can use it for another... Ok, I'll keep quiet."
Raising his hands in the air at the gaze that now bores into him, Inuyasha finally shuts his mouth, even though he doesn't seem to like it and considering his personality, at any moment he can go back on the attack.
"Tsk, it's good that you understand. Now then, where are we going?"
Clicking her tongue at the ease with which Inuyasha dropped the potential conflict, Asahiko expresses herself in a prickly manner, though then returns to what does matter.
"What are you saying, Asahiko? I'm following you."
"No, no, no. You're in front, you're obviously the one leading the way."
Pointing to Inuyasha as if that's a very obvious thing to do, Asahiko stands by in anticipation, actually waiting for him to lead the way.
"I'm ahead now, but in the beginning you were. I was just following you, all from the moment we left."
Inuyasha explains his point clearly, rather oddly, disengaging himself from all responsibility and his surprised face at such a topic makes it very clear that he doesn't even know what's going on.
"Don't joke... Tell me you're joking, Inuyasha."
"Don't look at me like that! I, I... We just have to find a mountain with a dragon, how hard can it be?"
Inuyasha's mild embarrassment quickly gave way to anger, though noticing that Asahiko was serious, he tried to find a solution... However bad it may be.
"I had been waiting for this to happen. Now I…"
"Were you waiting for this to happen or just the moment to appear?"
Who responded to Saya's words was not Asahiko, but it was Inuyasha who maintained a look of annoyance, just as if he had already been through something like this.
"Let go of anger and let love in, Inuyasha~"
...Christopher/Asahiko pov....
Under the help provided very conveniently by Saya, our group of only three... Two people and a spirit, began their journey into the unknown.
By the way, Kikyo was nowhere to be seen when we left... Yeah, maybe we just went somewhere else and I didn't get to see her.
We traveled for the whole day, well what was still left of it, since by the time we left Totosai's home it was quite late, making the night catch up with us quickly and we had to set up camp.
*Crack* *Crack* *Crack*
Throwing some more branches to the campfire, which is well made, since we don't want a forest fire, I notice Inuyasha's gaze.
"What's wrong, Inuyasha?"
"You'll keep playing with that... sword."
"No, no... Easy, you can tell it like it is. A hilt, a box of surprises, the sword that isn't a sword. illusory fang!"
Suddenly shouting right after finishing my words, he forcefully waved the hilt towards the forest, though just like always nothing happens.
I've obviously filled it with energy, but still no reaction, I'm just asking for some sparks or something. By the way, I've tried to give it to Totosai or Inuyasha, let's see if he changes form again, which he didn't.
"Ahgg, Totosai may be an idiot at almost everything... But he's not when it comes to making swords. There must be something you're overlooking, a trick or requirement."
"Kyaaa~ Inuyasha, are you trying to motivate me~"
Speaking in a disgustingly sweet voice, as he grabbed both sides of my face between his hands and let out a very exaggerated "Kya", until I noticed Inuyasha's frowning face.
"You're an idiot, but you're almost always like that."
"Inuyasha, what have we said about telling the truth? You should know that nobody gets..."
Before I could continue with my stupidity, Inuyasha threw a branch forcefully towards the bonfire, causing the fire to jump and small embers to leap towards me.
"You must have an idea by now, right?"
"Oh, why would you think that, Inuyasha?"
Dodging the flying embers again, after he throws another branch, I stare at him with a smile on my face.
"Tsk, it's pretty simple. Normally you put problems aside, instead now you're too active with that hilt."
"What is this, since when can you use your head?"
"Grr, I'm going to punch you if you keep up this idiocy."
Laughing out loud at the clear annoyance in his voice, I make the smile disappear as quickly as it appears and finally get serious.
"I've got some clues, well more accurately a feeling... Right on the edge of my mind."
"Is it about?"
"Wishes."
I even seem to hear the nuts in his brain turning, though then he stares at me strangely and waits for an explanation.
"Well, maybe it's not wishes exactly said, maybe just wanting something or longing for something and it works..."
"Asahiko."
"OK, OK, I'm getting to the point, remember the tail you cut off?
Waiting for Inuyasha to nod his head, I place the embers that escaped the previous two times back into the bonfire.
"Now that tail was made of my energy, what I mean is that it could only come out one sword with my abilities."
"Um, um."
"Obviously my flames aren't, Totosai forged a support weapon. You can also erase the charm which is a... normal skill. With that said, I can only think of it as being based on my illusions or transformations."
Getting to that part, I raise my hand and gather some energy in my open palm, creating a small rock, before sending it towards him.
"What do I do with this?"
"Take a bite out of it, Inuyasha~"
Breaking my seriousness for a few moments, I signal for him to take a bite.
"I'm not going to bite a stone"
"It's an illusion, not a stone."
"Tsk, well, it smells like one though. Aghv, gross... Not that it wasn't a stone!"
Quietly avoiding the stone he has thrown at me in his fury, he pointed towards the stone so he sees it too. It had begun to disappear, slowly but inevitably.
"It was... Was it really an illusion?"
"A perfect illusion to be more exact. Everyone, from the first to the last of your senses, has been fooled... Just as the illusory Fang was doing to those who looked at it."
"And if it is all three?"
My eyes widened at his words of doubt, not because a light bulb went off over my head, but I never thought Inuyasha would give an idea.
"Maybe I'll use the three skills you said. Charm to enter people's minds, illusion to take the form of their desires, and transformation to maintain it."
"What, what, what... whattttt!"
"Stop looking at me like that, besides... Why the hell do you sound so surprised!"
The one in front of me now is obviously not Inuyasha, it's impossible for the one who swings the sword out of pure instinct to have intelligence... Wait, maybe those instincts also work in his everyday life?.
"Who are you... And what have you done to Inuyasha!"
"You want to fight you fucking idiot!"
"You think I won't, you damn impostor!"
The fake tension went on for a few seconds, until we both started laughing at our stupidity, making the atmosphere become more relaxed again.
"So what is your 'wish'?"
"Good question my dear fr"
"Asahiko!"
Trembling at his shout, not out of fear, but realizing that I avoid problems unconsciously, that is without even considering it.
"Ok, OK, I'm sorry. But it's not like I know what I want, crave or desire either... It's truly complicated."
"Bah, whatever you say."
Incredibly and suddenly, Inuyasha was the one who completely shattered the atmosphere of seriousness.
I guess even he understands that there are things... More difficult and easier to talk about... Although he probably just felt the danger to keep asking, his instincts are incredibly sharp and I can attest to that.
"If you've finished, why don't we start eating?"
"Good idea, Saya. That's your part."
"Does the ghost eat too?"
"Yes, Inuyasha, and because you brought something that only gave enough for the two of us... Well, he gets half of yours."
"What the hell! Give him your share, besides you don't even need to eat!"
Just like that and resuming the daily bullshit, we finally left all the seriousness behind and started to enjoy the meal.
