Intern at S.T.A.R. Labs

Chapter 7: Chp 7: On time

"Good morning, Central City! It's a bright and beautiful day, and you're tuned in to the one and only Central City Sunrise!"

"Shit shit shit" running around the room gathering stuff.

"Whether you're grabbing your coffee, taking the kids to school, or just enjoying the fresh morning air, we're here to make sure today is your best day yet!"

"So, get ready for the latest news, a whole lotta fun, and of course, the best hits to keep you movin' and groovin' all morning long!"

After just grabbing the cream puff and stuffing it in his mouth he ran off.

"Welcome to Central City Sunrise—where every morning is a fresh start!"

"Shit I'm gonna be LATE!!". Someone forgot their new job requires them to wake up earlier than before.

Train would be the faster option with the down side of walking a bit extra while the bus is pretty much door to door, both will be crowded, he levered his choices. Train it is. 'As much as it sucks to be in the herd, it would suck more if I'm is any more late, on the second day no less.'

Biting the bullet , thinking the whole time he could have taken a half day and been late. Oh well, he's here now, pushing through the herd and getting out, fast pacing from the station to his workplace.

" Morning Mr. Guard" only to be greeted by a nod. 'One step'.

"Welcome to S.T.A.R. Labs" . "Thank You'. 'Hehe cool Automated voice'.

Taking the elevator, going to the section, walking across the curved hallway , opening the door and ..

'It's the wrong room. This was the interview area'.

"Hello? Anybody here?" as his voice echoed back in the little room crowded with objects.

"I thought this was Cisco's workshop, why isn't he here then?" leaving not noticing the room was slightly emptier than yesterday. Moving to the next location he remembered which also wasn't the fab-/ab but where he knew he could find people for sure. The Cortex.

Snaking through the curved hallway labyrinth he finally made his way to the Cortex, just the same as yesterday crowded. He was about to ask for directions but everyone seemed busy and not a familiar face was in sight until someone strutted across with a notepad. Ms. Powell. Ignoring his inability to even function in crowds add to that the nervousness he felt talking to a beautiful lady, he walked up to her at a snails pace. With the softest voice which could barely move a feather he approached her.

"um excuse me Ms. Powell, do you have a minute?"

"Who? Oh you're the intern from yesterday. What are you doing here sweaty?" her words felt like pure smooth chocolate.

"Um I uh … I'm lost, can you help me to the fab-lab, if that's okay with you?" he said those words as fast as he could to get time and breathe and calm down after her words flirted with his mind.

" Yeah sure just wait till I'm done with this tasklist from Mr. Rathaway. Oh, speaking of whom.."

"Powell I assume I pay you for my work getting done and not chit-chatting with randoms" a male voice interrupted, the source was a well suited man with glasses and the most "posh and pompous" energy around him. He also kind of looked like Harry Potter.

"We're almost done Mr. Rathaway, and this is the new intern from the fabrication department hired yesterday".

"Fabrication, I thought the labour were supposed to stay in their tavern and not in the castle of ideas."

'Yeah I do not like this guy' "Apologies mister , it's my first day and I was lost. I asked if Ms. Powell could show me the way.."

"Ms. Powell, has more important work to do other than leading workers to their cave. Also how can you be useful to this company if you can't even remember simple directions ?"

" That's rich coming from someone who can't follow a recipe with 2 ingredients" Caitlin interrupted, appearing out of nowhere, probably the other room.

" Omelettes are peasant food anyway. While you were busy learning to cook I was learning 5 languages and horseback riding when I was 10". Hartley retorted in the most posh way he could.

"All those languages and you still can't talk to the guys you like" Caitlin clapped back.

"That's high coming from someone who hitched herself to the first guy who talked nice to her" Hartley returns.

They both staring at each other, like trying to vaporise the other with their stare probably.

" I have better things to do than let some wish wash distract me. Powell get me that file within the hour." Hartley said as he walked away.

"Don't let him get to you , he's all bark. Very very bitter barks sometimes." Caitlin sympathized.

"Sorry I'm busy but, Hey Sarah!" Caitlin called across the room. Out from the other side walked another gorgeous lady with a labcoat , red shirt and light brown skirt.

"Yes Dr. Snow?"

"Could you take him to the fab- lab please?"

"Sure. Let's go , right this way".

Adrian followed her out walking besides her. She had a fun walk, like she was enjoying every step and minute she spent here. He looked at her thinking of what to say when

"Don't worry about getting lost, when I was new here I had to ask directions for a whole week".

"They really don't have signs anywhere , what do you expect?" 'Oh I should ask her'

" Quick question, do you know about this specific heart disease." Showing her the name on the digital report on his phone. Her face almost flipped like a light switch how fast it lit up and went somber.

"Yeah, that's actually in my areas of expertise. Tell you what , meet me during lunch break. K bye " Sarah left .

"Thanks for showing me the way".

Fast forward and it break time, lunch being served and benches getting filled.

" After going through this report I can say that your friend isn't being scammed and there is a legitimate experimental cure to this ailment." Sarah said.

"Oh cool, thanks for the confirmation. My friend will be relieved. Although your tone suggest there is a 'but' to this cure." Adrian added.

" Why are you two sitting with me?" Harold asked.

" Yeah, the risks of performing the procedure are quite high, and the only thing which can increase the chances is proton therapy.. which will only be possible after the launch and study of the particle accelerator" Sarah added.

" So basically if she can hold on for 2-3 months , her chances of getting better safely rise exponentially".

" I'm sorry about your friend but why are you two having this conversation in front of me?" Harold asked again.

" You were sitting alone, I thought we'd keep you company" Adrian added.

"Usually when people sit alone they prefer it that way"

"Wow, the particle accelerator will surely do wonders in so many fields." Adrian exclaimed.

"Hey, don't ignore what I said". Harold pleaded.

" I know right , cancer treatment, sterilization, medical imaging are all going to get huge boosts from the particle accelerator. The medical world will be advanced enough to reach sci-fi territory ". Sarah excitedly spoke.

"I know, even Nanotech and antimatter research will skyrocket and even in semiconductors they will have ion implantations which could lead to supercomputers." Adrian continued.

"The particle accelerator will be the invention of the decade".

"The particle accelerator will be the invention of the decade".

They both said . Laughing over their synced appreaction of the P.A.

"Now there's two of them" Harold sighed.
