Intern at S.T.A.R. Labs

It's a new day, but not just any new day. After days of slogging through the manuals, personel reports and dry runs Adrian will finally have his first assignment today. As an intern he should have been asked for 3 weeks of training but he sped through it.. and also pestered Harold everyday which cut it down to just a little over one week. Now with a big chest and bright smile Adrian walks to the fabrication laboratory as he greets everyone good morning and on his way to his desk.

"Good Morning Harold; and good morning to you too Hartley".

Harold passes Hartley a 10 dollar bill, seems a bet was made.

"Why did you just greetings him normally? Not even a second glance, not even a why are you here?" Harold inquired.

"Well, isn't he your senior? Maybe he came to check on our progress and then should be greeted as such". Adrian responded.

"Technically he's not my senior but he is at the top of decision making". Harold replied

"Gentlemen I would prefer if you don't refer to me as if I'm not standing right here. I'm here for your first Adrian". Hartley suggested.

" My first assignment!! You'll help me?!! Damn this will be one hell of a project. I am ready to go when you are. Sir." Adrian trying to control his excitement.

"Great , grab your notebook and go ahead to the accelerator " Hartley reciprocated. While Adrian pranced through the hallways.

" As for you, I don't always like to be on the top Harold" Hartley slid his hand on Harold's .

"Bloody Wanker". Harold muttered .

By the accelerator the two stood , outside the pipeline door with a crew surrounding them while another team was building a pathway from the door to the inner ring. Hartley got busy talking to the staff while Adrian stood around waiting. He noticed everyone was busy, no one looked up or around, every available spot seemed full, which begged the question,

'What am I doing here?'

Adrian approached Hartley to ask about his assignment only to be brushed off because he was "busy" giving orders to everyone else. Adrian then took the opportunity to look at what everyone was doing if possible to talk to them and get some specifics out about the job.

A few minutes pass and Hartley notices Adrian is already helping around as much as he can even if it's small stuff. Hartley smirked as he knew he made the correct choice. He called Adrian over.

" I called you for your assignment and you're already getting distracted." Hartley complained.

" Well you didn't exactly tell me what this assignment is so it's better to help around than to just stand here". Adrian complained back.

" I thought a genius like you would have figured it out already." Hartley smiled then paused, staring. Adrian staring at Hartley waiting for a response.

"No . I do not know what it is you need me for."

" You manage this, that's the assignment. I have other stuff I'm busy with but Dr. Wells insisted on this task needing oversight so someone should take over." Hartley just casually dumping his work on the intern.

" Me? Manage them? But I'm the intern here , I don't know what they're doing."

"So how could you help that guy just before?"

" Well , that.. I knew about electronics and a little about what is needed here".

"See that's more than necessary, just stay here, monitor them and any grevience they have forward it to Ms. Powell."

" Understood. Speaking of Ms. Powell, why isn't she with you ? I thought she was your manager?".

"She is, while my list of tasks is as long as you she stays in the office managing to cut them down only asking me for the necessary ones."

" I see, so to contact Ms. Powell I will have to call her right?"

" You will use the floor phone, her code is 1883."

" Dammit why can't you just give me her number! "

" Like I said, you want it, ask it yourself. Preferably not during office hours".

Hartley ready to leave the defeated intern to his labour turns around.

" Catch." Hartley throws a A4 notebook at Adrian which he clumsyly catches .

"What's this?"

" Your homework."

"No I just got through all the Manuals please don't give me more homework. Hartley. Hartley!!" Adrian cries out loud as Hartley just walked away laughing.
