TRAIN STATION.
Mike was feeling a bit overwhelmed.
In front of him, two girls were standing opposite each other—Gwen and Kara.
Today, Gwen wore her usual beige jeans, black-bottomed boots, and a fitted hooded jacket. With her brilliant golden short hair, she looked both capable and cool, qualities rare among girls. At school, students often called her a queen.
As for Kara, when they saw her today, neither Mike nor Gwen almost recognized her.
Kara wasn't wearing her usual black-framed glasses, nor had she tied her hair up. Her slightly curly dark blonde hair flowed down to her shoulders and lower back. Her youthful, sweet face was framed by her natural beauty, and though she wore a simple coat and trousers with white canvas shoes, she still looked strikingly beautiful and innocent.
The two girls, each with her unique style, immediately attracted the attention of many people at the station.
Seeing Mike standing between them, onlookers soon showed expressions of envy and indignation, sharing a silent sense of resentment.
"What a lucky guy!"
---
The train slowly pulled away from the platform, heading toward New York.
Gwen and Kara, sitting across from each other, exchanged looks filled with subtle hostility.
Mike, seated between them, was oblivious. He rested his schoolbag on his knees, unzipping it slightly to reveal a small orange head.
"A kitten?" Gwen asked in surprise, "Mike, when did you get a kitten? A ginger one, too."
"Her name is Kerry. I found her in the park yesterday. My aunt's out of town, so I thought it'd be better to bring her along." Mike gently scratched the kitten's chin, and Kerry looked up with a content expression.
"I've always wanted a kitten." Gwen said, her eyes lighting up with interest.
Meanwhile, Kara's blue eyes took on a strange gleam the moment she spotted Kerry.
"Can I hold him?" Gwen asked, reaching out. But before her hand reached him, Kerry's fur bristled, and she quickly retreated into Mike's schoolbag. From the gap in the zipper, a pair of glowing green eyes peered out.
Gwen froze, pulling her hand back instinctively, feeling an unexpected twinge of fear.
Mike, oblivious, gently scolded the kitten, "What's wrong with you? She's my friend." He smiled at Gwen, "Don't worry. She's just shy. Right now, I'm the only one she lets near her."
"It's fine." Gwen said, though her eyes lingered on the bag with a wary curiosity.
For a moment, she'd felt like she was being… watched.
"I'll take Kerry to the restroom." Mike said, leaving his seat with his bag.
As he headed to the restroom, Gwen turned to Kara with an intense look, "Tell me, what are you really here for?"
"To date Mike, of course." Kara replied innocently, tilting her head, "Is that so strange?"
"How shameless!" Gwen blushed, lowering her voice, "You're not fooling me. I know you're not just a schoolgirl."
Kara's eyes narrowed, a hint of mischief sparkling in her expression, "You're not an ordinary person either, are you, Gwen?"
Gwen gave a wry smile, "So what if I'm not?"
When she'd first met Kara, she'd sensed a powerful, almost primal energy within her—one that went far beyond mere jealousy.
"No matter what you're planning, Mike's just an ordinary guy." Gwen said, balling her fists in readiness.
Kara brushed her hair back casually, "You're his friend, so why can't I be his future girlfriend? There's no harm in that."
'She seemed reasonable.' Gwen thought, albeit begrudgingly. Kara didn't appear to have any malicious intent.
"So, what did you think of the kitten?" Gwen asked, remembering Kara's earlier reaction.
"It's… not an ordinary cat." Kara said with a serious look, "Its body structure is unlike anything I've ever seen. It's like a miniature black hole, but alive."
"Wait… is it safe for Mike to be alone with it?" Gwen asked, worry creeping into her voice as she glanced towards the restroom.
"Relax." Kara said, giving a reassuring smile, "I've been watching closely. The creature seems harmless around him."
"Wait, you can see inside things?" Gwen said, her face a mix of surprise and suspicion. She wondered just how far Kara's abilities extended.
"Of course." Kara replied nonchalantly, nodding towards the restroom, "Right now, Mike's—"
"Don't look!" Gwen quickly covered Kara's eyes, her cheeks reddening.
Kara instinctively brushed Gwen's hand away. With a thud, Gwen stumbled back into her seat, staring at Kara in shock.
Where did that strength come from?
Kara looked flustered, bowing her head, "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to be that rough."
"It's fine." Gwen said, brushing herself off and standing up. She'd just have to stay cautious around Kara.
A moment later, Mike returned, carrying his bag with Kerry safely inside, and looked curiously at the two girls, who were sitting in silence.
He had no idea what had just transpired.

New York City—the bustling, bright heart of the United States.
Skyscrapers filled the horizon, and giant LED billboards lit up every corner of Times Square.
The holiday spirit was in the air. Christmas decorations adorned every building, casting a warm, festive glow over the city.
But for New Yorkers, things were never truly calm.
On the busy downtown streets, the sounds of sirens echoed through the air, bringing a familiar sense of 'freedom' to the city.
Ever since Tony Stark revealed himself as Iron Man a year ago, New York had become more stable, if only slightly. Criminals now thought twice before stirring up trouble, fearing a sudden appearance from the billionaire in his high-tech suit.
Right now, however, Tony Stark wasn't out saving the city.
Instead, he was in a well-known New York nightclub, surrounded by scantily clad dancers and models.
"Tony, couldn't we have met somewhere quieter?" Asked Rhodes, trying to maneuver through the crowd. His military uniform was decidedly out of place, but his rank was enough to make the crowd part around him.
"What's wrong with here?" Tony teased, raising a glass of red wine, "Besides, it's you who always crashes my parties."
"I came straight from the base." Rhodes replied, grabbing a drink from a passing tray.
After a few moments, he looked seriously at Tony, "So… still working on that team of extraordinary people?"
Tony nodded, the usual playfulness fading from his expression, "It's tough. Got a couple candidates, but finding people with real abilities is harder than I expected."
"What about that new superhero—Silver-Haired Goddess? She took down that Hulk clone, Abomination, in Washington." Rhodes asked, his tone intrigued.
"I looked into it." Tony replied with a smirk, "Not much intel yet, but she's based in Washington."

Meanwhile, in Times Square, holiday cheer was in full swing.
"Mike, look at this!" Gwen called, tugging on his sleeve and showing him a Santa hat she'd just picked up.
"It's… festive." Mike replied with a smile.
"Senior, what about mine?" Kara touched the reindeer bell around her neck, and it made a crisp and pleasant metallic sound.
Mike smiled, "It looks good."
Throughout the day, Gwen and Kara strolled around the bustling commercial streets with Mike in tow. The two beautiful girls drew admiring glances from people passing by, becoming a delightful sight in the city.
Although being surrounded by beautiful girls was enjoyable, Mike didn't forget his main purpose.
When they reached a crossroads, Mike suggested, "Alright, now I'll walk down this street, and you two can take that side."
"Huh?" Gwen's smile disappeared.
"Why?" Kara also looked puzzled.
"Gwen, remember, you came here to do some tourism research." Mike explained, gesturing to the bustling street, "It's huge, and we'll never be able to cover everything if we stick together. Why don't we split up? I'll take one side, and you and Kara can go together on the other side. That way, you'll be safe."
Gwen froze, not expecting her earlier excuse to backfire like this.
"Senior, I…" Kara started to say, looking up at him, but was met with Mike's encouraging smile.
"Then I'll leave it to you, Kara. You and Gwen, take care of each other."
Kara opened her mouth, wanting to protest, 'You're the one we should be worried about.' She thought, but held back and agreed reluctantly, "Alright."
"Great, it's settled then."
With a wave, Mike slung his schoolbag over his shoulder and headed down a different street alone.
Left behind, Gwen and Kara exchanged a bewildered look.
How did things end up like this?
