Another morning.
Mike put on his outdoor winter clothes and headed to school. This was the last school day of the week, and tomorrow would mark the start of the Christmas holiday. All middle schools in the United States were breaking for a full week.
As he passed the intersection, he didn't see Gwen like he usually did. He wondered if she was still out sick today.
When he crossed the intersection next to the park, an orange-yellow figure suddenly leapt out from the lawn, startling him.
Maybe it was because ever since that strange incident the night before last, the door to the extraordinary seemed wide open. Lately, he'd been running into all sorts of strange things.
Mike, who had barely stepped into this new world, felt exhausted. His view of reality was constantly being challenged, and both his mind and heart were struggling to keep up.
Glancing over cautiously, he realized it was just a kitten, squatting on the ground. It looked to be about a year or two old, a little thin, and with orange fur that clearly showed its breed.
"Just a little orange cat." Mike let out a sigh of relief, though he couldn't help but smile at his own nerves.
"I've been so on edge lately. The world's big… it's not like running into something strange is that common, right?"
"Hey there, are you hungry?"
Seeing that the kitten had no collar and looked dirty and frail, Mike guessed it was probably a stray, abandoned in the park.
After a moment's thought, he ran to a nearby convenience store, bought three sausages, and hurried back.
As he approached, the little orange cat quickly hid back in the grass, only its green, watchful eyes peeking out with a look of caution.
"It's food, see?" Mike opened one of the sausage packages and took a bite to show it was safe, then placed the other two sausages on the ground near the bushes.
Since class was about to start, Mike didn't linger.
As he walked away, he glanced back and saw the grass rustling. The sausages on the ground had vanished.
He smiled and continued on his way to school.
In the grass, the green eyes watched him go. The kitten licked its paw, its small belly not even slightly full. The sausages, wrappers and all, were completely gone.

At the school gate, Mike ran into Gwen. They both froze in surprise at seeing each other.
"Gwen, feeling better?" He asked, walking forward to greet her.
But Gwen puffed up her cheeks, pretending not to see him, and hurried into the school.
Mike was puzzled.
What's going on?
Girls really are hard to understand.
He shook his head, deciding not to overthink it. But he couldn't just let her walk away.
Quickening his pace, he tried to catch up, but the faster he went, the faster she walked.
The two of them ended up racing into the building one after the other.
Just then, a girl stopped Mike in the hallway.
"Excuse me, Senior, could you stop for a moment?"
Mike turned and saw a younger girl, about fifteen, standing shyly before him.
She had long, golden hair tied back in a single ponytail, with a few messy strands falling over her face. Thick black glasses framed her eyes, and she kept her head down, avoiding eye contact. She looked like the type of quiet student who would go unnoticed, maybe even teased by others.
Mike didn't remember her, but, trying to be polite, he replied kindly, "Sure, what's up?"
"Um..." The girl hesitated, biting her lip before finally speaking, "My name is Kara Danvers. We met at the opening party."
"I remember now." Mike suddenly realized that during the opening party, this female classmate was alone in a deserted corner outside the crowd. Perhaps she remembered some experiences she had before meeting Gwen in her childhood, which made him feel sorry for her. He stepped forward to greet the classmate and explained to her some of the school's measures and rules.
But that was almost half a year ago.
"You still remember me." The girl's eyes suddenly lit up, and she raised her head slightly, staring closely at Mike in front of her. She was originally hesitant, but now she seemed to have finally made up her mind.
"Hmm?" Maybe it was because her spider sense was too sharp, or it was her sixth sense as a woman, but Gwen, who had stopped in front of the corridor, suddenly had a bad feeling when she saw this scene.
She wanted to step forward and interrupt Kara's next words.
But as if she had predicted that Gwen was going to interrupt, Kara secretly clenched her fists and spoke faster and faster, "Senior, I... I like you, please go out with me!"
Her voice was neither loud nor soft, and it could be heard almost throughout the corridor.
Mike opened his mouth wide.
"This!" Gwen's beautiful eyes narrowed drastically, a step late. A few seconds later, the students in the corridor were in an uproar.
"Youth is great."
A teacher passing by turned a blind eye and made a comment with emotion while shaking his head.

Ring! Ring! Ring!
The bell rang for the end of class.
The huge high school campus was accompanied by a burst of noise, and a large number of students poured out of the teaching building. Apart from some conversation classes and lunch, most of them were still discussing the silver-haired goddess and the campus confession incident in the morning.
Childhood sweethearts vs a girl who fell from the sky?
Popularity ranking NO.1 vs popularity ranking last NO.1?
This would definitely be on the campus weekly news! But luckily, after today, we would have a week-long holiday.
As the protagonist of this incident, Mike packed up his things and walked out of the school gate early. Behind him, Gwen, carrying her schoolbag in one hand, chased after him with her boots tapping. She had even forgotten about her previous embarrassment and asked angrily, "Mike, you won't really agree to the confession of a girl you just met for the first time, right?"
"It's not the first time we met." Mike corrected: "It's the second time we met."
"The second time? This is too exaggerated!" Gwen suddenly became anxious.
"Don't worry, I didn't promise her."
"But you didn't refuse."
"That's because..." Mike paused and looked at Gwen seriously. "You know what? Confessing in public means she has enough courage."
"I haven't figured out how to respond to her courage and determination." Mike said here, apologetically. "I'm sorry, Gwen, I accidentally involved you. This matter has nothing to do with you."
Gwen stared blankly at Mike's back as he continued to walk forward. Her soft and fair lower lip had been tightly bitten by his pearly teeth without her realizing it.
No, it doesn't matter.
Gwen said to herself.
The setting sun was about to sink into the city, and with the dusk, light snow began to fall from the sky again.
Mike was returning home, and when he passed by the park, he took a special look at the lawn.
He don't know where the kitten that was lying inside in the morning went.
"Good luck to you, poor little fellow, in the winter."
Mike let out a breath, touched the sausage in his pocket, and walked away wrapped in his jacket.
However, when Mike returned to his residential building and looked at the open elevator door, a bold horizontal line appeared above his head, "Why are you here?!"
Mike had a face full of black question marks.
Inside the resident's elevator, he saw a little orange cat curled up in the corner, and he didn't know how long it had been lying there.
After Mike appeared at the elevator entrance, the little orange cat yawned as if it had noticed something, rubbed its sleepy eyes with its paws, and showed a harmless expression.
Mike was a little dumbfounded.
How did the cat know that his family lived here? No, this was probably just a coincidence!
Mike pretended not to see it, walked into the elevator, and pressed the button for the floor he lived in. During this time, many residents also entered the elevator. In order to prevent the kitten from being stepped on by others, Mike chose to stand in front of it.
The elevator started to move upwards, with people coming in and out.
During this time, Mike took a peek at the kitten lying on the ground behind him.
Well, well behaved, no movement.
Until they reached the sixteenth floor where he lived.
Mike hadn't left yet.
The little orange cat, who was already awake and squatting in the corner, suddenly stood up, took a step forward, passed through the gap between his feet, and walked out of the elevator.
"No way?" Mike's mouth twitched slightly. He walked out of the elevator and looked at the kitten squatting quietly at the door of his house.
What's going on with this cat?
