Injustice 3: The Might of Magic (Book 3)

Chapter 63: Arrivals

Cyborg:

"Okay," I say, checking the map while piloting the One Earth's jet. "This is...interesting."

Hearing a beep, I tap the radio in my ear.

"What do you mean by interesting," Yellow Lantern asks from outside the jet, the wind sounding almost louder than him.

"The blue circles that represent traces of magic," I say, "It's glowing bigger and bigger. It's already four times the size when I first discovered it. Something is happening in Jump City. Something really big and I get the feeling it's also really bad."

"In that case, why bring only me and a handful of soldiers? Why not bring any of the magic users like Black Adam?"

As Yellow Lantern asks me this, I turn my hand and open it. Sitting there, directly in the middle of my palm, is the Teen Titan's radio. Gripping the radio, my fingers closing in on it, I place my fingers against the radio.

"Something just told me I should bring you along," I answer. "Not Black Adam or Klarion or anyone else."

"Uhhh," Yellow Lantern starts, "Maybe we should've. Look!"

Looking ahead, I look out the window and see a massive battle right in the middle of the city.

"What the hell is going on," I yell. Looking closer, I see Insurgency members; Flash, Harleen, Captain Cold. The three of them, and everyone else, are fighting what looks like monsters, made from broken pieces of stones. As I keep watching, I hear beeping and look in front.

"Son of a bitch," I cry out, grabbing and steering the jet out of the way of a stone giant. Barely managing to avoid crashing into it, I look at the stone giant as it raises its massive hand. Raising its hand as high as it can, the stone giant throws it back down, crushing Blue Beetle and Firestorm. It may have only crushed Blue Beetle and Firestorm but the shockwave knocks Cheetah and Catwoman off their feet. The situation only gets worse as I keep watching.

"Green Arrow," I shout, seeing the man on the stairs. Something is wrong. It had to be. He's lying on the ground, surrounded by stone monsters, and instead of shooting his famous trick arrows, he's crawling away.

Slamming a button, I set the plane to auto-pilot before getting out of my seat and running through the plane.

"Help the Insurgency destroy those stone monsters," I order.

"Sir," one of the soldiers asks but I cut him off by opening the door and letting the wind in.

"Do as you're ordered," I yell. Looking at Green Arrow as one of the stone monsters picks him up by his throat, I jump.

Green Arrow:

With the stone monster grabbing me by the throat, pieces of him start wrapping around it. They push in, choking me. Already having trouble breathing, I can't do anything as the pieces of stone force all the air out of me.

While one of the stone monsters strangles me, another one tries to pluck the bow from my hand. I do everything I can to keep my bow but with the lack of oxygen, and my eyelids feeling heavy, I begin losing my grip.

About to lose my bow, I hear someone screaming, and then a yellow beam hits and destroys the stone monsters. Falling to the ground, I grip both my bow and throat and start gasping for air.

My vision is blurry, and there is a lot of dust in the air, but I think I can still make out Cyborg falling out of the sky and Yellow Lantern hovering. Landing on the ground beside me, Cyborg kneels. He picks up my head and lifts me.

"Oliver," he says. "Oliver. Are you okay?"

"Cy...Cyborg," I say.

It takes all my strength just to say Cyborg's name. I try to say more but I feel too tired. Cyborg realizes something is wrong because his robotic red eye starts changing.

"Oliver," he says again. "What's wrong? I just did a scan of your vitals, and they're dropping like a rock."

Again, I try to say more. I try to say anything but I can't even open my mouth. Instead, I feel a cold shiver runs up my spine and throughout my body. Despite the cold shiver, I also feel a burning pain in my chest. I want to scream out in pain but my mouth stays closed.

"Oliver," Cyborg shouts, shaking me. "Oliver!"

As Cyborg shakes me, I turn my head and see Dinah still fighting. Using her Canary Call, she destroys a stone monster, all the pieces flying everywhere.

"That...my girl," I think. I keep watching Dinah, as a bright light appears before me.

Supergirl:

Sister Symmetry's golden cloak starts flapping in the wind as she swings her hand. What looks like a bunch of cards floating in mid-air in front of her, the cards spin and glow. A few seconds later, the cards transform into balls of light that fly toward me.

Stepping back, I cross my arms as the first ball of light hits me. Screaming as it burns my hands, I look at the incoming orbs. Quickly flying toward me, I look up and eye the ceiling. Using my laser vision, I destroy parts of the ceiling. The parts that I hit fall to the ground and block the orbs. With the orbs gone, I jump into the air and fly toward Sister Symmetry.

Reaching her before she can do another magic trick, I throw punch after punch, before grabbing and throwing her into a wall. Even before she can fall off the wall, I fly up and grab her again, pinning her against it.

"Stop the ritual," I demand, pulling back my hand.

"Never," Sister Symmetry answers.

A golden cross appears behind Sister Symmetry and she fades into it. Looking at the cross, a beam then shoots out of it. It hits and kicks me across the room. Hitting one of the statues of Raven, I look up as another golden cross appears and Sister Symmetry walks out from it.

"The world is beyond saving," she states, "This is the only way to ensure order."

"What," I say, "Destroy the world and then re-build it?"

"Yes," Sister Symmetry answers. "We must destroy this world and restart a new one, and to do that, we must get rid of all obstacles. Including the man in the sunglasses."

The second I hear his name, I think back to the plane crash, and then almost instantly, I put all the pieces together.

"It wasn't Superman," I say, "It was you."

I close my hand and slam my fist as I push myself up. As I push myself up, I look at Sister Symmetry's feet and see something.

"Paper-thin feet," I say. "It was you. It was the four of you. You attacked him. All of you attacked because he was an obstacle?"

"The man in the sunglasses disturbed the natural flow of magic," Sister Symmetry says. "We have never seen a being like this before. With him, we could no longer see the future. We can no longer determine what is the proper outcome to ensure order for this world. That is why we had to kill him ---"

Snapping my head up, I scream and fire laser beams at Sister Symmetry. Screaming and shooting as I stand up, I slam Sister Symmetry back into the wall. She tries to escape but even with her magic, I can't escape my laser visions.

Burning her deeper and deeper into the wall, I only stop when something hits and knocks me a few steps back.

"What the heck," I scream. I try to walk back but instead, I walk right into something and bounce off it. "What is this?"

"It is a force field," a man answers. Appearing out of thin air, a man in a hat and a blue cloak, holds up his hand.

"Who are you," I ask.

"I am Phantom Stranger," the man answers, "I am here to help the Lords of Order."

"What? No!"

Despite my scream, I can only watch as this, so-called, Phantom Stranger aims his other hand at Raven.

"The gem is here," Phantom Stranger starts. "The gem is to be sacrificed. The gem will open the portal."

Using all my powers, my super strength, my laser vision, even my frost breath, I use them all to try and break the force field but nothing is working.

"The gem will unleash him. The gem will free him."

"Zatanna," I shout. "John! Ares!"

Zatanna, John, and Ares all stop fighting and look at Phantom Stranger.

"Phantom Stranger," Zatanna yells. "What is he doing here? And why is helping with the ritual!"

"Don't know but we can ask you later,' John answers. "Stop him!"

Leaving Count Control, John rushes to stop Phantom Stranger. So does Ares and Zatanna. All three rush to Phantom Stranger as fast as they can but it's too late.

"The gem is Raven," Phantom Stranger chants. "Raven will set him free! Be the portal and set Trigon free!"

Mystic runes appear all over Raven's body. She screams as red lights shoot out of her eyes. Another bright red light appears on Raven's body. This one grows until it takes over her body, leaving only the runes.

The mystic runes start spinning at high speed. As they spin, they turn into a line of red blurs. The ground beneath the statue explodes, and a third light shoots out from it. It hits the spinning runes and red light, and with the three together now, a large portal appears with a massive red hand shooting through it.

"The ritual is done," Phantom Stranger shouts. He lowers his hand and finally, the force field surrounding me falls. The second it falls, I fly to Phantom Stranger and try to punch him but my hand goes right through him.

"Trigon is free," Phantom Stranger goes on. "He will destroy the world, and finally, the war between the One Earth government and the Insurgency will be---"

Before Phantom Stranger can finish, hands appear and snap his neck. As he falls, The Man rises from behind him.
