Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

Chapter 746: Temporary solution

"... I am honestly surprised… it took hundreds of years for the demi-humans to understand how they could use the dragons' power against them, and you learned it in a few months," Isa said.

Rain reached out to Isa, who promptly accepted his call. He eagerly shared the progress he had made in his discoveries. During their conversation, it became evident that Isa hadn't contributed significantly to the development of this particular magical style.

Despite this, Rain was enthusiastic about sharing his insights and findings with her, hoping it might improve their relationship… maybe it was because of that kind of thinking that his wives were jealous.

"I just scratched the surface," Rain said. "I still don't know how you guys use magic circles and how that is better than the direct creation of relics."

"I suppose I can explain that," Isa said. "Since you already know the basics, that being said, I can't tell the details freely of how to do it. Anyway, a magic circle helps at some point when the things that you want to do with magic are too big. For example, a magic barrier or a spell to create a dungeon."

"I see… by the way, are you guys having a hard time dealing with the dust as well?" Rain asked.

"We only had a problem in the first few days, then we solved it," Isa explained.

Rain understood that Isa might not disclose specific details, and it wasn't surprising to him. However, he was astonished at how rapidly the demi-humans had mastered this form of magic to counter the storm. Yet, observing the lack of intervention from the system against their actions, Rain concluded that there might not be an immediate need for concern or intervention on his side.

"If you make some progress fast, the upper echelon here might be interested in working with humans. They will feel suspicious of me, but I don't care," Isa said. "Still, this might be more trouble than it is worth."

"I want to focus on this aspect and try others before I am forced to fight again. Still, you can call me in the unlikely chance that you might need some help, or your prideful friends for that matter."

"That seems to be for the best," Isa said. "A final warning: in the past, many of us tried to go against the system, but things didn't end well for them. Still, you are the cautious type, so I am sure that you will go slow when things involve too many risks."

Rain wasn't surprised by the fact that Isa still could read him like an open book… maybe it was because the demi-humans only obtained that knowledge when they realized that they couldn't rely on the usual progress of the system.

For the most part, the system was impartial, but it valued a lot those who offered more time to improve their skills… it goes without saying that the millenar dragons are born with a very obvious advantage in that aspect.

Rain began to work on the rings to mass-produce them and asked Terra and Seara to test them. He soon confirmed that the size of the shield changed according to the intelligence of the user, which also represented their magic power… it also lasted for longer, consuming less mana.

"I was wondering what you were doing in the past few days, but it was something hard to understand again, huh?" Terra asked. "Anyway, this is amazing."

"It isn't very useful to my people, though," Seara frowned.

"Everything in its due time, young padawan," Rain said. "At first, we will have to rely on those who have the highest magical power, so you two will have to select them since I am busy here. I also need you two to talk with Branden and Esmeralda to help me with this. People won't be able to move out of the cities for a while, so their work will be hindered.

They will have to do something about the economy while also making people produce potions for us."

Terra and Seara understood Rain's strategic vision. Rain aimed to mobilize the entire population to contribute to the creation of potions, highlighting that these potions were for the immediate issue of the dust storm and had a pivotal role in regaining their collective freedom.

Rain's plan was twofold: first, to involve the populace in the creation of potions, and second, to inspire hope and motivation by linking this effort to the ultimate goal of eliminating the dust storm. Terra and Seara recognized the profound significance of uniting everyone under a shared purpose, utilizing the creation of potions as a means to engage the population in that critical matter.

At first, people looked skeptical about that, but soon, they began to see more results. Even though before, they used hundreds of mages to keep the cities and towns safe, some dust still eventually entered the city, but things changed with the rings.

Some mages were allocated to the tallest buildings, and Rain made some towers as well to help with that, and that eventually stopped the dust from falling on the city, which improved the mood of the whole kingdom. After one week, Rain finished making enough rings for all the cities… even though the users had to take turns using them.

"All right… this will only remedy things, and it is time to look for a solution," Rain thought. "We can't use the same thing on the underwater kingdom, so perhaps I should try to help them first…"

The only problem with that was the fact that Seadir didn't find any clues with the people who were looking for some knowledge in the library of the underwater castle, so once again, Rain had to start from scratch.

"I am not sure if this is better than to have to worry about attacks from enemies, but it sure is troublesome nonetheless," Rain thought. "I might be jinxing us by saying this, but I hope that nothing will happen before we solve this…"
