Chapter 2: Ch.2:Okawa Jr. High

Chapter 2: Okawa Jr. High

Akira, Takeshi, and Inoue finally arrived at the football practice pitch, circling around the school to get there. The pitch was noticeably smaller than a standard one. Akira exclaimed, "We're finally here!"

Takeshi huffed and puffed, clearly exhausted from running around the school. "Huff... huff... huff..."

Inoue's eyes widened as she took in the scene before her. "Okawa... they're actually here!" she said, noticing the eleven players on one side of the pitch, each wearing a purple jersey except for their goalie, who wore black. She then spotted the nine players on the Raimon side, each bearing bruises and scratches. Takeshi had mentioned earlier that both he and Shinji were injured, which explained why the Raimon IX were short two players.

The Raimon goalkeeper, Sawaegara Kishimoto, looked like he had taken the brunt of the punishment. His tall and lean body was covered in noticeable bruises, and his long ponytail flowed across his left shoulder, down to his chest. He had likely tried to block some powerful shots. The remaining eight players had minimal injuries compared to him.

Ishikawa, the captain of the Okawa team, spoke up, his voice dripping with arrogance. "Is that really all you have, Raimon? I mean, I did hear that you guys weren't really that good of a team. You guys don't even have a coach! At least, I've heard so."

The nine Raimon players on the pitch bristled at Ishikawa's words. Shun Ayashime, the Raimon captain, exclaimed, "Come on, Raimon! Get up! We can still do this!" But his words seemed to fall flat, failing to rally his teammates.

Kayari Hatake spoke up, his voice laced with frustration. "What's the point?! They're just too strong. We couldn't even defeat Nakamura Jr. High in last year's regional qualifiers semi-finals. How could we possibly try to defeat Okawa, who even bested Teikoku in last year's finals?"

Okii Kabe, the introverted right center back, surprised everyone with his outburst. "Yeah. Kayari is right. W-we shouldn't have accepted this practice match in the first place. We-we have no chance!"

The rest of the team agreed with Kayari and Okii, their spirits crushed. Shun, however, refused to give up. "F-fine then. I'll do it myself!" he declared, his determination evident.

Shun turned to look at the scoreboard, which read 24:0 in favor of Okawa. With a newfound sense of resolve, he nodded to Ishikawa, who took the kickoff. Ishikawa passed the ball to his fellow attacker on the right. The midfielder sprinted into Raimon's side of the pitch with full speed.

Shun, determined to make a difference, left his position and ran towards his opponent. However, the midfielder easily evaded his attack and continued running with the ball. He passed to Ishikawa, who immediately shot the ball mid-range towards the goal. Sawaegara, who had already conceded 24 goals, had given up on stopping the shot. The ball flew at an astonishing speed towards the goal. As it reached the goal, Sawaegara could only watch as it passed him and entered the net. The score was now 25:0.
